highlights of munichDon’t miss out on Munich’s wealth of attractions, adventures and experiences

W ith the city’s motto “Munich likes you”, it may be difficult for the

elite traveler not like this city in return. A common stop for CEOs on business or celebrities on tour, there is plenty to entertain you, from nightlife and shopping to attending film and fashion events.

Taking its name from ‘Monks Place’, Munich is the capital city of Bavaria in Germany and is located at the foot of the

Alps. Home to luxury car manufacturer BMW, it is the country’s third most populous city with over 1.3 million inhabitants. The city comes second only to New York in the number of publishing companies per square mile. As Munich continues to rank in the top ten most livable destinations in the world, there has been no better time to visit Munich.

After being bombed in World War II,

many of its buildings were restored to the Rathaus period, which gives Munich a luxurious revamp impression unlike other post-war cities. Globally known as being a well planned city, this destination is also home to some of the world’s most renowned festivals, including the annual beer festival, Oktoberfest. The museums and galleries in the city are among the most impressive in Germany and arguably compete with those of Berlin.

THE BAVARIAN STATE OPERAThe Bavarian State Opera is one of the oldest opera houses in the world and has been one of few to maintain its fame throughout several centuries. Founded by Henriette Adelheid of Savoy in 1653, it has showcased concerts and ballets, but it wasn’t until 1753 that the Opera opened as a major stage. Elite travelers will be impressed by the venue’s electrifying exterior and magnificent interior, with a seating capacity for 2,100 people. The auditorium is complemented by five rows of stalls and a royal box overlooking the whole auditorium. The Bavarian State Opera has maintained its reputation throughout the 20th century, with the immediate postwar years seeing a series of great conductors. The current music director is Zubin Mehta, who has retained his position since 1998.

OKTOBERFESTOktoberfest is a 16-day festival where elite travelers can enjoy authentic Bavarian etiquette, savor traditional German foods, and more importantly, sample a variety of locally-brewed beers. Both locals and tourists are known to make the trip to enjoy each day of the jovial festival. Oktoberfest is one of the most famous festivals in the world. Eating and drinking in the company of friends and family is what the Munich culture is built on. Each year the Oktoberfest welcomes over six million guests from all over the world. Past visitors have included Arnold Schwarzenegger and Paris Hilton. Oktoberfest actually starts in September and in 2011 will kick off on the 17th of the month. For more information, see our Only Elite section.

MUSEUMS OF MUNICHThere are a range of reasons why visiting a museum should be top of your list during your stay. There is an ensemble of three museums in Munich, each of them highlighting different periods in art and culture. Located next to the Englischen Garten, visitors will be able to find The Alte Pinakothek, The Neue Pinokothek and The Pinakothek der Moderne (see page 19). These museums aim to provide inspiration through personal connections, and strive to stimulate your mind while at the venue but also throughout your stay in Munich. The exhibitions are a great way to spend time with family and we advise elite travelers not to miss the city’s wealth of museums.

Only elite Elite Traveler has selected the most exclusive VIP experience

OktOberfestseptember 17 – October 3, 2011VIP contact: Samuel Cabrera, President of One ConciergePhone: 1 (800) 628-9701Address: Theresienwiese; Matthias-Pschorr-Str. 4Email: [email protected]: www.oktoberfest.eu / www.oneconcierge.com

“Oktoberfest is one of the most famous public festivals in the world. But just because it is public doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to receive all the private amenities you’re used to. With One Concierge you’re always a VIP.”

Each year the Oktoberfest welcomes over six million guests from all over the world. Elite beer aficionados looking to become ‘Weisn fans’ will certainly be impressed. As the largest folk festival in the world, the 16 day event includes a range of activities, though the main focus is the celebration of local beer. The official opening of the festival is launched every year by either a political figure or by a high-profile celebrity, and

this year will see Munich’s Mayor Christian Ude declaring the start. After the official opening in the main hall, the 14 other combined rooms have a seating capacity for over 100,000 people. The beer is particularly special at this festival because it is brewed by the six major beer companies in Munich so the beer remains authentic. To complement the beer, Bavarian delicacies are served, including locally grown radishes and grilled fish.

One Concierge can ensure that your visit to Oktoberfest is luxurious, so you will receive VIP treatment from the moment your day starts to the moment it ends. One Concierge will reserve VIP seating for you and your guests at a table within one of the many tents. Upon your arrival at Oktoberfest, you will be led to your reserved seats, by your very own private tour guide, who will also remain with you for the entire duration of your trip. This private tour guide, (a local of Munich), will provide you and your guests with sights and secrets of the Oktoberfest experience that many “tourists” will never know about. The One Concierge Oktoberfest Complete Experience starts at $10,000, and the trip can be customized to fit your personal needs.

the frauenkirche, the cathedral of our Blessed ladyBuilt in the late fifteenth Century this is Munich’s most prized landmark. This cathedral can seat 20,000, and was victim to several

heavy bombings during World War II. In the cathedral, one can take a smooth climb to the top of the South Tower and enjoy a gorgeous view of the Alps. This monument has been fully restored and is now often referred to as one of the most beautiful sights in Munich. Private tours of any size can be provided upon request.

marienplatzLocated in the heart of the city, this square was once home to outdoor markets and festive tournaments during the Middle Ages. With a rebuilt gothic council hall, ballroom and tower, this square is one of the most prominent sights for all to see. Now adorned with numerous shops and restaurants, Marienplatz brings in millions of people each year who come to see the magnificent architecture and take in the beauty of the everyday hustle and bustle of the city center. What to do ➤ during the day

Munich offers more than boutique shopping and luxury spas. There

is a wealth of cultural treasures for

the elite traveler to explore during their visit. We have picked some of our favorites; whether it be a visit to a

museum, the opera, a nightclub or one of the world’s most famous festivals, there is something for everyone.

THE BAVARIAN STATE OPERAPhone: +49 89 2185 1025Email: [email protected]: Max-Joseph-Platz 2, 80539Website: www.staatsoper.deThe Bavarian State Opera is one of the oldest opera houses in the world and has been one of few to maintain its fame throughout several centuries. Founded by Henriette Adelheid of Savoy in 1653, it has showcased concerts and ballets, but it wasn’t until 1753 that the Opera was opened as a major stage. Elite travelers will be impressed by the venue’s electrifying exterior, magnificent interior and cavernous seating capacity of 2,100 people. The auditorium is complemented by a further five rows of stalls and a royal box overlooking the whole auditorium. The Bavarian State Opera has maintained its reputation throughout the 20th century, with the immediate postwar years seeing a series of great conductors. Past visitors have included Prince Charles and Vivienne Westwood. Elite clientele can enjoy a three-course meal arranged close to this venue in the famous Brenner restaurant. Enjoy hors d’oeuvre while listening to an introduction to the performance you will attend. The main course and the desert will be served after the show allowing you ample time to share your musical critiques. A member of the Bavarian State Opera will also join guests to ensure that no questions go unanswered. In addition a late-night guided tour can be arranged to follow the performance. VIP visitors can get a glimpse behind the scenes while the stage design is released to make your visit unique and unforgettable.
