HELLO!I am so thrilled to share this year’s Holiday Guide! Once again, this process has been an amazing journey. It’s such a joy to connect and work with so many creative people.

As we prepare for the holiday season, we are truly looking forward to every excuse not to be busy, because the truth is - being “busy” is quite overrated. Who’s ready to indulge in the small, quiet moments that come with winter gatherings and celebrations? More than anything it’s a time to come together with all the people you love in life.

This past year has been a year of change - the big kind too! I’ve loved the journey, because it’s all about being able to edit, redirect and even tighten up on the very things that make your heart flutter just a bit. As we celebrate each other, and prepare for a new year, let’s be sure to snuggle with our little ones, send thoughtful notes to all our best friends and finally relax around a delicious meal with all the ones we love. Explore, accept new challenges, engage your community and even take on whole new project because you just never know what you’re made of – or what you’ll discover about yourself at the end.

Her days are full of color-ing, cleaning messy toddler faces, and staying up way too late to hang out with her pal, Jimmy Fallon.

Lauren Grant is a Massachusetts based interior de-signer. Working as a handbag designer for Brahmin Leath-erworks for many years, she’s now totally focused on interiors. She wants to help people create a home that is not only beautiful but is reflective of who they are and what they love.

Ashley Souza is the owner/photographer of Ashley Elizabeth Photography. She has always had a passion for photography, but recently decided it was time to make a career out of it. Ashley could not be any happier and is so lucky that she can do something she loves. She thinks it is so important to cap-ture memories with photographs because it is something you can pass down from generation to gen-eration. She is a very kind, loving, and fun person and it shows in her sessions!

Jessica Souza Jessica Souza is a Texas based portrait photographer, spe-cializing in mater-nity through baby’s first year. Jessica is known for her beau-tiful newborn por-traiture and was awarded Best New-born Photographer of Round Rock for 2014. Jessica is a member of Professional Pho-tographers of Ameri-ca and dedicates her talent to The Tiny Sparrow Foundation.

Stephanie Piscitelli is an award winning portrait photogra-pher specializing in newborns, infants, and children. As one of Boston’s most sought after photog-raphers her name has become synonymous with creamy, soft, airy imagery. She was one of three photog-raphers asked to con-tribute to the e-book, “For the Love”, by world renowned pho-tographer Barb Uil of Jinky Art.

Tori Bowman holds lots of titles, and modern mom is one of them. Living in Seattle, Washington with her husband and two children, she’s owner of Piccoli Blog & Shop, and also works as a designer alongside her husband at Tori Bee Design. Impressed yet? It only gets better.

We love Tori because she’s down to earth and super inspiring.She’s not one to gush about how she does it all, but she thoughtfully shares her life through design and simple posts that inspire happiness. She’s also big on throwing high-fives to other moms and creatives. She’s one generous lady, so much so that she’s even included a free printable for all of us to enjoy. Tell us about your career and the inspiration behind it?I have been interested in art since I was little but I got my real start with graphic design when I did a few odd design jobs for a marketing company that my husband was interning at. After that, I spent all of my free time playing around with Photoshop and reading design blogs. That next semester, I took a few introductory art classes and was hooked. I switched my major from so-cial work to graphic design and never looked back.

My husband kept going with his major in marketing and decided to teach himself how to code websites (no big deal, haha!) about a year ago. He quit his job shortly after to be a full time web engineer and we have been working together as a web design duo ever since.

As if running a full-fledged design business with your husband while being a stay-at-home mom to two little ones wasn’t enough, I started a lifestyle blog for moms and children at the beginning of the year called Piccoli. After seeing so many bloggers promoting a life that most of the women I knew couldn’t attain, I decided to create a site that would help women create a life that was beautiful and realistic. What started out as a bit of a side project has become my passion and I have loved seeing Piccoli’s community grow, and “meeting” so many wonderful women.

How would you describe your personal style?Classic, casual, and comfortable: soft tees, cozy sweat-ers, matchstick cords, flats. In high school and college, I was all about trying out every single trend and at one point, I think my entire wardrobe was from Forever 21. Now, I stick to what I know works. It’s kind of rare to find a piece that looks great and can withstand the baby/toddler test, so when I find a piece that fits both, I basically buy out the store.

Who is your favorite style icon?I try to glean inspiration from lots of people and places, but I always find myself coming back to Kate Middle-ton, Emma Stone, and the J.Crew lookbook. I’m also super inspired by children’s fashion. It’s so carefree and simple, yet made for play. My “little girls” style board on Pinterest might be my favorite. Also, who do we need to talk to at Gap Kids to get them to make all their adorable toddler pieces in women’s sizes?

Three things we’d find in your handbag right now?Wipes (I became a mom and suddenly I use them for everything!), concealer, and a handful of toy horses. My two littles are obsessed and won’t let us leave the house without two or three horses in tow.

On date night, we’d find you where? My husband and I are big movie buffs. And while we used to spend the majority of our date nights at the theater, we’ve come to appreciate a good night in, snuggled up on the couch with a good flick and some delicious food. Sometimes we switch it up with a game night with friends. Our date nights are a bit more simple since adding kids to the mix, especially with the cost of babysitters, but we’ve learned that date night isn’t about the activity as much as the quality time to-gether. And when that becomes the focus, it’s OK that we don’t see every movie on the big screen or eat at a fancy restaurant each week.

Favorite Holiday Tradition:I have so many favorite little traditions, like new paja-mas each Christmas Eve, or watching the same holi-day movies each season. One thing that I always look forward to is baking day, where we get together with family and make tons of holiday goodies to deliver to friends and neighbors. And then spend the next two weeks eating all the extras!

My daughter loves to write notes to people, so this year we’ll be sending out lots of handwritten Christmas cards to loved ones. We’ve never really been big on sending out holiday cards, but I’m excited to start this new tradition with my daughter this year. One of my fa-vorite things about starting a family has been blending old traditions and having the freedom to create new ones, especially as children begin to enter the picture.

What do you look forward to most during this time of year?Before I had children, I always looked forward to open-ing gifts on Christmas morning and all the after-holiday sales. But now that I have little ones to share the holi-days with, I love seeing everything through their eyes. I never appreciated how beautiful Christmas trees were when you laid under them, or how fun it was to belt Jingle Bells at the top of your lungs. Maybe this year we will even take these horse-loving littles for a ride in a one horse open sleigh. Kids just make everything a little better.

Holiday decor can transform any living space. Whether your decor style is classic, trendy, or a mash-up of everything collected along the way, I believe that your decor should be a true reflection of what’s magical and festive to you and your family.

I tend to keep things on the simple side. I love natural laurels along the banister, and simple swags that flank fireplaces. When it comes to holiday trees, I adore a tree that showcases family moments, crafts, and ornaments collected over the years.

Gone are the days that I try to have an overly coordinate tree. Having your kids create ornaments and then add them to the tree is just a wonderful tradition for us. Then there’s the case of our little white tree adorned with a paper chain garland.

To make our paper chain garland truly shine for the holiday season, I opted for a paper upgrade. I browsed the selection of specialty papers at my local craft store and purchased some

high-shine metallic paper. To make the paper chain even more interesting, I went for a ‘mixed metal’ look, combining gold, rose gold, silver and copper metallic shades. You’ll even notice some varied texture to the papers. Overall, these subtle elements will add more interest to the finished product.

To make the garland you’ll need: mixed metallic papers (12 or more pieces depending on your desired length), paper cutter and glue.

To assemble, simply cut the paper length-wise into 1 - 2 inch pieces. Once the paper is cut to size, start to assemble the chain by adding glue to the ends of the paper and seam together to create a chain link. Slip your next paper link through the existing one, and glue the ends to create your seam. This is the beginning of your paper chain. Continue this process until you have reached your desired paper chain length.

CRANBERRY C H UTN EYThis is a perfect side dish for the holidays or as a spread for sandwiches. The recipe can easily be doubled for a larger batch.

1 cup cranberries, fresh or frozenJuice from 1 orange2 strips orange zest 1/2 cup sugar1 cinnamon stick

Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan and place over medium heat. Simmer until you can easily pop cranberries with back of a wooden spoon and until mixture is thickened, 15-20 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick and orange zest and discard. Allow chutney to cool to room temperature before serving.

Makes approximately 1 cup.

KALE + CRANBERRY SA L A DCrispy kale, crunchy nuts and sweetened dried cranberries all work perfectly together in this super quick and easy salad.

VinaigretteJuice from 1/2 lemon1 tablespoon Dijon mustard1 tablespoon honeyKosher salt, to tasteFreshly ground black pepper2-4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds)1 bunch curly kale, stemmed, washed and dried1/2 cup dried cranberries2 ounces crumbled feta cheese, or to taste

1. In a small bowl, combine lemon juice, mustard and honey and season with salt and pepper. Slowly pour in olive oil, whisking to emulsify. Taste for

flavor and adjust as needed.2. In a dry non-stick pan, add nuts and toast over low heat until slightly fragrant and lightly golden brown. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.

3. Chop kale into small pieces and transfer to a large serving bowl. Add about 1/2 of vinaigrette and toss until well coated. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes until kale is slightly wilted. Top with nuts, dried cranberries and feta and season with salt and pepper and serve with remaining vinaigrette.

Serves 4.

APPLE-CRANBERRY CRI SP SThis is a super simple dessert that’s great to make with your kids. Serving these in individual ramekins means that everyone gets their own dish of this yummy, sweet treat and no sharing is required!

4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing3 medium apples, peeled, cored and diced1/2 cup fresh or frozen (unthawed) cranberries 4 tablespoons sugarZest and juice from 1/2 lemon1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, divided1/2 teaspoon nutmegTopping1/3 cup flour1/3 cup old-fashioned oats3 tablespoons brown sugar1/4 teaspoon kosher saltVanilla ice cream, for serving

1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease 4 4-ounce ramekins with butter and place on a baking sheet.

2. In a medium bowl, combine apples, cranberries, sugar, lemon juice and zest, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir until well combined. Divide mixture equally among ramekins (filing each ramekin right to top).

3. Make topping. In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and salt. Cut in remaining 4 tablespoons butter until coarse crumbs form.

4. Spoon topping equally over each ramekin and bake for 35-40 minutes, until browned and bubbly. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Serves 4.

The countdown to Christmas is just one of the many things we love about the holiday season. Creating an advent experience

has truly become just as essential as procuring a Christmas Tree and

hanging stockings in our home. Kids love to indulge in even the smallest trinkets and treasures, as they count down until the big

day arrives. To share our love for advent calendars, we invited one of our favorite DIY bloggers,

Kathleen Ballos, to craft this simple, yet beautiful, display

to spark your very own festive countdown this holiday season.

Paper ForestAdvent Calendar

Step-by-step tutorial by Kathleen Ballos

Supplies: Assorted green paper, scissors, pencil, pin (or awl), circle cutting tool, cutting mat, ruler, string, washi tape, hot glue gun, candy, paint and paintbrush (optional)

1. On the cutting mat, use the circle cutter to cut a 5 ½” diameter circle – this will be your template. Fold the circle in half and cut along the crease. Then fold one of the halves in half and use a pencil to mark where the crease meets straight edge – this is the very center of the circle.

2. Cut more 5 ½” circles – each circle will make two trees, so for a 24 tree advent calendar, you’ll only need 12 circles. Use the template to cut the circles in half and mark their center points.

3. To turn the semi-circles into trees, roll each into a cone shape, being sure to keep the center mark at the tip. Apply a thin line of hot glue to one edge, attach the other, and hold in place until secure. Repeat for the rest of the semi-circles.

4. With the circle cutter on the cutting mat, cut a 1 ¼” circle as a template. Fold it in half, fold in half again, and snip the point off. When unfolded, the hole will be in the center of the circle. Cut 24 more 1 ¼” circles, one for each of the cones. Use the template and a pencil to mark the center on each circle.

5. Use a pin or awl to poke a hole in the centers you just marked. Be sure to check that your string can fit snugly through this hole.

6. Cut a piece of string about 4’ long, or however low you’d like the trees to hang from the ceiling. Cut a tiny bit of the tip off of a cone and thread your string through and then thread a matching small circle on as well. Tip: You may need to tightly roll the end of the string in tape (similar to a shoelace) to make the threading easier.

7. Tie a knot after the small circle so that a 3” string tail is hanging past the knot. Fill the cone with treats.

8. Pull the small circle up so that it fits snugly into the cone. Use pieces of washi tape to secure the cone and circle together. Repeat steps 6,7, and 8 for the other 23 trees.

9. If desired, paint numbers on each tree or leave plain for a simpler look.

Candy Apple Everything

For our family, the holiday season begins with one simple, sweet tradition: the candy apple. And whether you prefer a classic red or caramel with all the

toppings, it’s a classic, iconic treat. We’re happy to have Michelle Brodeur, also known as the Candy Apple Lady share a bit about her candy apple history, and

why she has the sweetest gig in town.

Tell us about the Candy Apple Farm? The Candy Apple Farm started really humbly in 1973 by my mother-in-law as a way to cure her kids’ boredom – the fall equivalent of a lemonade stand. My sister-in-law set up shop on a picnic table and sold classic red candy apples for twenty-five cents apiece. Like all kids, my sister got bored with her stand, but my mother-in-law saw an opportunity to launch a cottage industry. She developed a secret non-preservative candy recipe and my father-in-law got to work transforming the picnic table spot into a seasonal pop-up shop. My mother-in-law sold classic red, coconut, and caramel apples. Her little business took off and she hired friends and family to help. When she retired, the business was passed down to my husband Marc and I.

We moved the pop up to our house at 788 Main Street in Acushnet, MA and expanded the hours and the menu. Today we have many varieties of freshly made candy apples, fudge, peanut brittle, lollipops, and baked goods. Your most popular candy apple?  The best selling are the classic plain red and caramel apples. But, we’ve got crazy toppings that can speak to any sweet tooth. Favorite customer moment? I saw one of my long-time customers at a conference. After years of buying apples, he had always called me “The Candy Apple Lady”.  He introduced me to his assistant, and as I was about to say my name to his assistant he interrupted. “No, don’t tell me,” he exclaimed. “You’ll always be the Candy Apple Lady to me!”

Tips for anyone looking to create this treat at home?  Anyone can make gourmet caramel candy apples at home and they make great gifts. Place the caramel in an electric with a dial heat thermometer. Stir the caramel frequently so it will heat evenly. While the caramel is heating, stick a wooden stick into the stem end of a clean apple.  Next, dip the apple into the caramel, then twist the stick back and forth in your fingers to get a thin and even coat of caramel on the apple.  Place the apple on a cookie sheet coated with cooking spray.  Allow to air dry.  Melt chocolate chips in a plastic bag in the microwave. Cut a small slice in the corner of the bag and use it like a piping bag to add thins line of chocolate onto the caramel apple. While the chocolate is still moist, sprinkle with chopped pecans. Put the apple in the refrigerator until the chocolate is set. Your favorite Holiday Tradition? Christmas is always special for our family, but I really enjoy Christmas Eve. We have a big celebration and share special dishes and desserts with our loved ones.
