StoneDeck™

StoneDeck™ makes it possible to have genuine stone decking without

the need for substructure reinforcement

Designed specifically for homes where traditional stone decking can

be too heavy for use on existing structures, StoneDeck is 8 to 10 lbs

per square foot and achieves flexural strengths of up to 5000 lbs per

square foot

By combining a thin natural stone surface that’s beautiful and durable

with a high strength composite backing, the result is a uniquely

stressed structural stone panel, which spans sixteen inches on center

and carries loads far in excess of building code requirements This

combination eliminates the need for traditional plywood and mud

substructure reinforcement

StoneDeck’s innovative decking system features an integral fastening

matrix that connects to the wood joists while interlocking the stone

panels firmly into place This gives you a free draining structural solution

that overcomes the maintenance and deterioration issues often

associated with conventional decking materials The stunning results

offer durability and aesthetic appeal beyond comparison

Features & Benefits

Xtendex Classic

The second-generation Xtendex Classic Composite Building System is

our most economical, attractive and easy to install deck solution It’s also

durable and low maintenance thanks to Xtendex’s patented composite

compound No wood is used Instead, rice hulls, which are high in mineral

and cellulose fiber, are combined with virgin high-density plastic to form a

superior composite The result is a significantly stronger deck that doesn’t

absorb moisture like wood-based composites

Another big advantage is our Quick Clip hidden fastening system

These patented clips make installation 50% faster Plus, your decking

won’t be spoiled by unsightly screws or nails because Quick Clips are

hidden from view This easy 1-2-3 installation system also “manages”

linear expansion of the deck boards, eliminating buckling and other

problems often related to uncontrolled expansion and contraction

Our Rail Kits provide the finishing touch Cartons are packed with

everything required for easy installation See railing section for details

Untreated Timbers

Q & AWith the number of products available in treated wood and coatings, the most frequently asked questions we get relate to the proper procedures for coating and maintenance These questions do not have simple answers, but we hope you will find the following information helpful

Can I paint or stain treated (Wolmanized) wood?

Yes, you can paint or stain Wolmanized wood that has been treated with copper azole) You can also coat this wood with a water repellent In fact, we highly recommend it The best way to tackle these jobs depends on the wood you have, its exposure, and the coating you plan to use

Many light-colored latex paints can be used successfully, following brush-application of an oil-based primer (The primer should not be applied by a sprayer) Paints, whose manufacturer’s advise against the use of a primer, should not be used Always follow the manufacturer’s directions and take special care to use a primer to seal end grain where cuts have been made, holes drilled, and any other penetrations occur

How long must I wait before applying a coating?

PAINT: Do not apply paint until the wood is dry, both on the surface and internally Otherwise, as the wood dries out, escaping moisture will cause blistering and poor adhesion of the paint We recommend a six month waiting period before applying paint (this time period may vary depending on regional climate and weather) A 10 to 15% wood moisture content will result in the most successful application of paints

Once the wood is dry, the procedure for painting treated wood is no different from that for painting untreated wood We recommend against using paint on deck flooring because frequently used pathways, such as from steps to doors, will become worn

STAIN: Some stains are heavily pigmented and form a film, just as paint does The recommendations for those are the same as those for paint, including our advice against using them for the floor of a deck Most stains, however, are semi-transparent and do not block moisture in the wood from escaping through the stain, allowing the wood to continue to dry

It is important to know if your stain is oil-based or water-based Some formulations can be used immediately; others perform

best when the wood is allowed to dry for a while The best advice is to follow the stain manufacturer’s directions

WATER REPELLENT: Water repellents do not form a solid film on the wood They permit internal moisture in the wood to move through them, which allows the wood to continue to dry

Should I use a water repellent?

To help protect your project against moisture damage, apply an effective brand of water repellent as soon your outdoor wood project is finished For large projects, apply repellent as sections are completed Water repellent should be applied every year or two

My deck is older. How can I improve its appearance?

To revitalize outdoor wood that has a dingy appearance caused by dirt and mildew, use a deck brightener product

Should I do anything to make sure my warranty is valid?

To validate the warranty, in some states and for some species, apply an end-cut solution on cut ends, drilled holes, and any penetrations that might occur

How does treated wood affect stain color?

The natural color of copper azole is a dark olive green After application of a cedar-tone stain, the color will become a light to medium cedar brown

Does treated wood bleed?

Where treated wood comes into contact with untreated wood, some bleeding can occur if the treated wood is not thoroughly dry To avoid bleeding, we recommend that you make sure treated wood is dry before starting the job Then apply water repellent promptly, preferably before it rains

Is it okay to use treated wood for a planter box used for herbs and vegetables meant for human consumption?

Some preservative will leach from Wolmanized wood into soil While we strongly believe that copper azole-treated wood presents no threat to humans or plants, we recommend (not require) a liner be used to prevent any concerns you may have and because some people would rather keep copper out of their planting soil, whether or not it poses a risk

I have already used joist hangers and fasteners that are not G135 rated on a deck. Is there anything I can do?

Inspect hangers and fasteners on a regular basis If you see corrosion taking place, replace them as necessary with recommended hangers and fasteners

dried prior to treatment.

INTENDED USE:

2x6 T&G stock is most commonly

used to construct horizontal divider

walls inside of pole buildings. Roof

decking and subflooring would be

other applications. Large timbers

are used as vertical uprights in

agricultural or light industrial

buildings called pole buildings. The

timbers are treated to meet normal

codes for this type of construction.

Timbers are frequently used as

concealed, vertical supports on large

decks, for retaining walls, landscape

applications, and general rough

construction where a utilitarian

appearance is desired.

GROUND CONTACT:

This wood has incisions to help the

copper azole treatment penetrate

deeper into the wood for added

protection in situations where wood

comes in contact with ground

or concrete.

ExtraGreen (Copper Azole)Proven after a decade across four continents, EXTRA GREEN™ wood is ideal for decking, railing and structural deck components, playgrounds and many other backyard projects

EXTRA GREEN wood can be painted and stained It’s more economical than durable grades of redwood and cedar or plastic composites And it’s made from a renewable resource that’s treated to last for decades, reducing demands on forests

This wood has been preserved by pressure-treatment with an EPS-registered pesticide, copper azole*, to protect it from termite attack and fungal decay Wood treated with any preservative should be used only where such protection is important

In the treating process, copper azole penetrates deeply into the wood where it remains for a long time However, some chemical may migrate from preserved wood into surrounding soil over time and may also be dislodged from the wood surface upon contact with skin Exposure to copper azole may present certain hazards Therefore, the following precautions should be taken both when handling the preserved wood and in determining where to use and dispose of it Many of these precautions also apply to untreated wood and other building materials

Use Site Precautions• All Sawdust and construction debris should be cleaned up and disposed of after construction

• Do not use treated wood under circumstances where the preservative may become a component of food or animal feed

• Only treated wood that is visibly clean and free of surface residue should be used where contact is likely

• Do not use treated wood for construction of those portions of beehives which may come in contact with honey

• Treated wood should not be used where it may come into direct contact with drinking water

Handling Precautions• Dispose of treated wood by ordinary trash collection TREATED WOOD SHOULD NOT BE BURNED in open fires or in stoves, fireplaces or residential boilers

• Treated wood from commercial or industrial use (e g , construction sites) may be disposed of by complying with local landfill rules or burned in commercial or industrial incinerators or boilers when done in accordance with state and federal regulations

• Avoid frequent or prolonged inhalation of sawdust form wood, treated or untreated

• When sawing, sanding and machining wood, wear a dust mask Whenever possible, these operations should be performed outdoors

• When power-sawing and machining, wear goggles to protect eyes from flying particles

• Wear gloves when working with wood Use proper techniques when lifting

• After working with wood, and before eating, drinking, toileting, or using tobacco products, wash exposed skin areas thoroughly

• Because preservatives or sawdust may accumulate on clothes, they should be laundered before reuse

• Wash work clothes separately form other household clothing

• The active ingredients in copper azole are copper and tebuconazole

Maintenance Tips• No maintenance is needed to renew resistance to fungi and termites EXTRA GREEN wood has a lifetime warranty against these organisms

• To help protect your project against moisture damage, apply an effective brand of water repellent as soon as your project is finished or, for large projects, as sections are completed

• Water repellent should be re-applied every year or two

• To revitalize a dingy appearance caused by dirt, mildew and mold, use deck brightener to clean the wood

End Cut SolutionFor hem-fir, Douglas fir, western hemlock, and Canadian woods, all cut ends and bore holes should be coated at the time of construction with a suitable wood preservative, such as Wolmanized End Cut Solution, containing a minimum of 1% copper This measure is required for validation of the warranty, as is proof of purchase of the preservative

Recommended FastenersThe minimal corrosivity of EXTRA GREEN wood is similar to that of traditional treated wood Hot-dipped galvanized fasteners (meeting ASTM A 153) and connectors (ASTM A 653 Class G185 sheet), or better, are recommended for protection against the effects of moisture often present where treated wood is used For Permanent Wood Foundations, use 304 or 316 stainless steel Aluminum should not be used in direct contact with this wood
