Imagine yourself pausing in front of a design of great beau-ty. Your soul quiets and is filled with wonder and awe. If art, created by man, can evoke such a response within us, how much more is the same wonder, reverence and respect due to each person we encoun-ter, who was handcrafted by the very God who spoke the world into being? Now think of an artist stepping back from a great work of art and ad-miring his or her creation. When God created each of us, He did so with precision and purpose, and He looks on each of us with love that cannot be outdone in intensity or tenderness. Moreover, the Lord in-vites each of us to behold ourselves and each other with the same wonder and awe. No matter how the world might view us or others, let us treat each person as the masterpiece that he or she is. “Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.” Pope Francis’ Day for Life Greeting

FAZtor ‘s Notes by Fr. Arnold Zamora The word of the day is PETRICHOR. It a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry

weather. The Fall season has officially started and so the rain has started to fall, but not hard enough to experience this petrichor. We just had a short fall of a rainfall in this season of Fall. So, let us fall on our knees and pray for much needed rain. The fall of the churches was the effect of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in the Province of Bohol in the Philippines. Bohol province has two dioceses: Tagbilaran and Talibon. It is in the diocese of Tagbilaran that most churches were destroyed. The Singing Priests of Tagbilaran held a very successful and enjoy-able concert on September 26th in our Church to raise funds for the reconstruction of those churches. Thank you for your contin-ued support to the universal church. Happily the new church projectors arrived last week and we immediately installed them. We were excited to have new pro-jectors but unfortunately they fall short of our expectations. The projectors do not have the correct distance ratio for the image to be thrown onto our screens. Nonetheless, we were able to use one of the new projectors during the concert. But don’t wor-ry, we have already contacted parishioner Frank O’Connor, who knows what we need and who was involved in the installation of the current projectors. The fall of food and the spill of liquids made the carpeted floor of the Flanagan Center very soiled. We just had the carpet cleaned and it looks very presentable now. Let us preserve the cleanliness of the floor by making an extra effort not to have anything fall or spill. The next cleaning of the carpet will not be until after all the Holiday parties are over. But if we are all care-ful with what we eat and drink, so as not to spill or let anything fall to the floor, we might not need to call the carpet cleaning company after the Holidays. The parsonage son said to his mother, “I’ve decided that I want to be a preacher so that I can clean up the mess the world is in.” “That’s just wonderful,” purred his mother. “You can go upstairs and start with your room.” The fall just reminds of Fr. Pedro Arupe’s words on Falling in love. “Nothing is more practical than finding God, than falling in love in a quite and absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, who you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.”

“The Giving Crib” Needs You

The Holy Name’s Gabriel Project ministry team is organizing baby showers for two pregnant mothers who are presently homeless, living in a shelter, and who are in great need in our community. To help them, we’ve created “The Giving Crib”.

In the back of the Church, you will see doll crib with several gift tags hanging off it. Each gift tag has a picture and a description of what is needed for the baby showers.

You can help by taking one of these gift tags and pur-chasing this item—or one that is its equivalent—and then by bringing it back to “The Giving Crib” the following week. Most items can be bought at Target or on Target.com.

Please bring the item to the Sunday 7:30am, 9:30am or 11:30 am Mass on October 12th or on October 19th and give to a member of the Gabriel Project ministry team at “The Giving Crib.” We will also be at the preceding Saturday Vigil Masses. Together we can give these two moms (and their unborn babies) help and love in their time of great need.

Items that can be selected from “The Giving Crib” include:

• The First Years Deluxe Fold & Go Diaper Kit ($11.99)

• Circo® Newborn 3 Pack Hooded Towels ($12.99)

• BABYBJöRN Baby Carrier Original ($55.99)

DAILY ROSARY FOR OUR LADY

FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 6:30 PM in the CHAPEL

(1555 39th Ave.)

IN THE VINEYARD As usual, to-day’s first and third scrip-ture readings are obvi-ously related, with the second continuing one of Paul’s Letters—these days, the Letter to the Philippians. The vineyard stories from Isaiah and Matthew both talk about evildoers coming to a bad end. In Isaiah, it’s the vineyard itself that produces “wild grapes” instead of the crop the owner dreamed of and worked for. So it will be “trampled” and “overgrown with thorns.” In Matthew, those to whom the owner leased the vineyard destroy the dream. So the owner “will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants” (Matthew 21:41). Yes, if we reject divine love we come to a bad end. And with all this talk of the unfaithful being trampled and thrown out, it’s consoling to hear Paul’s message to the Philippians, who were by no means perfect. “Have no anxiety at all,” Paul said. “Then the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:6, 9). 7 PM FLANAGAN CENTER Feature Film: “GOD’S NOT DEAD”

Present-day college freshman and devout Christian, Josh Wheaton, finds his faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class by the dogmatic and argumentative Professor Radisson. Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that first day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words "God Is Dead" on pieces of paper as instructed, Josh find himself at a crossroads, hav-ing to choose between his faith and his future. Josh offers a nervous refusal, provoking an irate reaction from his smug professor. Radisson assigns him a daunting task: if Josh will not admit that "God Is Dead," he must prove God's existence by presenting well-researched, intel-lectual arguments and evi-dence over the course of the semester, and engage Radisson in a head-to-head debate in front of the class. If Josh fails to convince his classmates of God's exist-ence, he will fail the course and hinder his lofty academ-ic goals. With almost no one in his corner, Josh wonders if he can really fight for what he believes. Can he actually prove the existence of God?
