MTU Detroit Diesel Australia has won the contract to supply

standby power to the multi-billion dollar Gorgon project on Barrow Island, just off the coast of Western Australia. The Gorgon Project is operated by the Australian subsidiary of Chevron (47.333%) in a joint venture with the Australian subsidiaries of ExxonMobil (25%), Shell(25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), Tokyo Gas (1%) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417%). The purpose of the project is to develop the Greater Gorgon gas fields which are estimated

to contain resources of approximately 40 trillion cubic feet of gas, making it Australia’s largest known gas resource.As part of this new contract, MTU Detroit Diesel Australia will provide generator sets powered by MTU 20V4000P63 engines.MTU Detroit Diesel Australia President and CEO, Doug Seneshen said, “The contract will involve customisation, testing and delivery of four diesel-powered generators designed specifically for the oil and gas market.“We’re thrilled that MTU Detroit Diesel

Australia was selected to provide crucial support for a project of this magnitude.“Our expertise in power generation and our superior technology means we can deliver products that meet the stringent requirements of this application and comply with the design conditions.”Earlier this year, MTU Detroit Diesel Australia supplied 12 engines for Gorgon’s temporary power station. The new generator sets are scheduled to be delivered later this year. ■

is one of Kenworth’s longest running dealerships and has just been named Kenworth Dealer of the Year for 2009.This award is based on a points system which covers the areas of general dealership performance, truck sales, service, parts, finance and customer support. The Barry Maney Group was started by Barry Maney himself in 1976 and became a Kenworth dealer in 1978, and a DAF dealer in 2002. It currently employs 76 people. As well as displaying a large range of Kenworth and DAF models, the premises also features a large parts supermarket, including a 200 square metre AllRig truck parts mart which carries over $1 million in stock. A special paint and panel shop, a workshop with the latest diagnostic and repair equipment, five truck service bays including two full length drive-through pits for B-doubles are also featured at the site.As well as the main dealership, the

group appointed three heavy truck sub-dealers in 1989 – Tatiara Truck & Trailers in Bordertown, Kirchner Trucks in Horsham, and DM Truck Centre in Warnambool – all of which also offer truck service, repairs, parts and a 24 hour emergency breakdown service. Barry Maney believes that the key to the group’s success is its customer commitment. He explains, “From day one, we developed a strong customer

care culture throughout all areas of the company.” Barry continues, “We work hard to maintain and improve our service, which begins before the sale and doesn’t end after the sale. On 18 March 2010, BOC and QGC announced a long-term gas supply

agreement worth in excess of $100 million. This puts both companies on track to extend a new transport fuel industry into Queensland and complete an interstate network of liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling stations.The agreement was announced at a function in Chinchilla, Queensland that was attended by Queensland Premier, the Honourable Anna Bligh MP.As part of the agreement, QGC will supply BOC with coal seam gas over a

15 year period, starting from July 2011. This will put the companies on track to becoming the first in Australia to produce LNG from coal seam gas through safe and proven liquefaction technology.BOC also plans to build a market-leading micro-LNG plant near QGC’s gas fields in the Surat Basin in order to process the gas. It is anticipated that the plant will produce 50 tonnes of LNG a day – equivalent to approximately 70,000 litres of diesel.Ms Bligh commented, “This agreement heralds the extension of a new industry

to Queensland based on coal seam gas where heavy transport may switch to LNG, an environmentally cleaner fuel than other alternatives. LNG produces up to 20 percent less emissions than diesel when used for transport and is a quieter, proven, safe alternative to other fossil fuels.”She continued, “Through this agreement, Queensland will join other states as BOC develops an innovative network of refuelling stations along the east coast of Australia for vehicles converted to run on LNG.” ■
