The Hospitality House homeless shelter in Grass

Valley is acquiring a building where they can offeryear-round shelter, on-site meals and services to

guests. The building located on Golden Gate Terrace in

Grass Valley at will be known as Utahs Place, in honor ofco-founder, the late Utah Phillips. Phillips, himself oncehomeless, was an ardent advocate for the rights of thehomeless.

Through the application for grants, secured donations, and funding from the Capitol Campaign, HospitalityHouse has taken a major step toward establishing a per-manent shelter in Grass Valley. We still have a ways to goto realize our ultimate goals to include minimizing trans-portation costs and housing more guests in a stable envi-ronment, while expanding services aimed at movingclients into transitional and permanent housing saidDeana Tate, a Hospitality House volunteer. Now, we are

in need of additional funds to complete the necessaryrenovations. We need support from licensed contractorsand others willing to roll up their sleeves and go to workin addition to donations for necessities. Our hope is toraise $640,000 dollars, in-kind, building supplies, andlabor included

On May 14th from 12:00pm to 8:00pm HospitalityHouse will be having a Build-a-Shelter Day at the HolidayInn Express on Bank Street in Grass Valley. This event willbe a fun-filled day aimed to raising funds for the newbuildings renovations. An outdoor carnival will includeGo-Karts, games, kids activities, face-painting and foodconcessions. There will also be live music by Home Freeand Grease, Grit and Grime. Visitors will also have the

opportunity to view the building plans, meet and talkwith Hospitality House personnel, sign up to help withthe building project and give donations. Organizationsmay raise funds before Build a Shelter Day or on the dayof the event. There are several naming opportunities fordorm rooms, beds, tables, etc.

We are encouraging local businesses, faith communi-

ties, licensed contractors, clubs, community grouptypes, and anyone wishing to hold a fundraising edonate raffle and silent auction items, and buildinplies. Monetary donations are always welcomed amuch appreciated said Julia Jordan of the Grass VDowntown Association. Each fundraising group wreceive four T-shirts, will be recognized on the web

www.utahsplacegv.com and have the opportunity naming rights. T-shirts are also available for purchthe Hospitality House Welcome Center for $10.00.

Jordan added, We would like to give a special tto Nevada County Contractors Association, Grass V

Downtown Association, Grass Valley and Nevada CChambers and the generosity of several local businand our community. We are on our way to makingnew house for our homeless a reality.

Gold Rush Burgers and BBQ offers familydining at a great price (continued from page 13)creations indoors using state of the art commercial smokers. For oursmoked burgers we use fresh ground, hand pattied, fresh, never frozen,

one hundred percent Angus Beef and smoke them using Mesquite

hardwoods. The result is a great smoke flavored burger with menu

options such as a Cheddar Burger, Swiss Burger, Pepper Jack Burger, or

an Ortega Burger. We also make our own bean-based veggie burger,

    Bob said.

Gold Rush is all about rubs and smoke. We smoke the best pulled pork,

Tri-Tip, St. Louis-style pork ribs, brisket, and chicken, say the Tonnies.

We use our own beef rub, smoke large juicy Tri-Tip roasts, and then

thinly slice them. For our smoked pulled pork we use whole pork butts,

season them with our homemade rubs, and they are smoked for 13 hours.

Our St. Louis style pork ribs feature our own rub and then we slow-

smoke them using Apple Blend Hardwood. Our ribs can be order as either a full or half rack. We serve them with

BBQ sauce on the side. For the chicken, we rub the whole chicken, slow-smoke them and then they are deboned

Some of the more interesting menu items are the Gold Rush BBQ seven- or fourteen-inch pizzas topped with a c

of smoked pulled pork or chicken. For the more pizza traditionalist they also offer pepperoni, cheese, and vegeta

pizzas. Fish and Chips are also featured along with a kids menu. The Gold Rush Ice Cream Parlor makes sundae

shakes, ice cream sandwiches, waffle cones, and specialty ice cream pies.

In addition to the food, cool treats and various big screen televisions, Gold Rush is offering live entertainment fr

area artists. We try to have live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night, say the Tonnies. Upcoming ac
