Are you the next Nevada County “Idol”? The NevadaCounty Fair is looking for talented vocalists to sing in theFair’s Idol Competition. The contest is open to county res-idents ages 16 and up. The competition takes place

Wednesday, August 11, at 9:00pm on the Pine Tree Stageat the Fairgrounds. Grand prize is $150.00, two Fairadmission tickets, a parking pass and two Saturday nightarena tickets. Second and third place winners will also

receive cash and Fair prizes. Singers will be judged by apanel of local celebrities, who will narrow it down to threefinalists. Audience members will then vote with quartersfor the grand prize winner. The quarters will be weighedon stage and the winner will be announced that night. Allquarters collected will be donated to the non-profitorganization of the winner’s choice. Last year’s Idol

Competition winner Katie Heward (pic-tured), received $575 for her charity SierraServices for the Blind. Early entry is encour-aged as there is a limit of 20 contestants forthis event. The entry fee is $5.00 withentries closed on Friday, August 6 at5:00pm. All contestants will receive a freeadmission pass to the Fair on Wednesday.

The “King and I” auditions are coming up on Saturday

and Sunday, August 28 and 29 at St. Joseph’s CulturalCenter in Grass Valley. The Rodgers and Hammersteinplay is being presented by The Community Asian Theatreof the Sierra (CATS) March 17 to April 16, 2011, at theNevada Theatre in Nevada City. Callbacks will beannounced at a later date with play rehearsals scheduledto start in December. They are looking for actors of allages singers and dancers.
