1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the main task? The Preliminary task VS The Main Task- the thriller 2. What I have learnt from the mistakes in the preliminary tasks? The mistakes that happened in the production of filming the preliminary task was minor, however they did impact a bit of the rest of the task. For examples the opening to the preliminary task when the one of the characters is walking down the long path to the location took 3 minutes for the character to walk all the way down. This made the preliminary task a bit boring as the audience has to walk a character walking down the path for the majority of the short film (the preliminary task). As my team allowed this footage in the short film as we didnt know at the time to shortening the footage and allow more time for the rest of the footage. For the plot of the short film, the story behind the short film was brilliant planned, however we overdid the task. Also the non-diegetic background music was a mess-up soundtrack as the music kept changing every some amount of seconds which had an impact of creating tension on the set. This made the audience think that the background soundtrack soured the plot of the film, as it create unexpected thrilling parts where the music didnt need to be. Furthermore the editing part to the short film wasnt good as we didnt use any video transitions as a result some parts of the clips jumped to the next clip which probably mislead the audience with what is happening at the moment in the short film. 3. ONE MISTAKE IN THE PREMLINARY TASK. As you can see in the two screen shots from my preliminary task that my team used all the footage to show the character walking down the driveway which made us overdo the task a bit, but make the short film longer than it was expected for the task. As the first minute and a half is showing the character walking down the driveway whereas it should have been a maximum of half a minute showing the character walking down. This told us that for our thriller task to use cut scenes to show the passage of the time showing a character doing something in the thriller. 4. What I did to make sure that the same mistakes didnt happen again in the thriller? In order to make sure that the same mistakes didnt happen again with producing the main task to produce an opening to your our thriller. Also I will make sure that when I am applying the background music to the thriller that the music doesnt keep changing every time in places like the music in the preliminary task that changed every so amount of seconds. This means that I must keep and make the same background music throughout the thriller unless theres a part of the thriller that requires a different background music as the tension of that part needs more a powerful background music. Furthermore when in the post-production stage, I will use not long clips of footage to show boring parts that will bore the audience. Even more when my team is putting the footage for the thriller together we will add video transitions to make the opening have an easy flow with no jumping to clips in the thriller. Overall I did all want was stated above and made the main task better than my preliminary task as I understood what were wrong in the preliminary task and improve on the mistakes to make sure that they occur in the thriller. 5. Titling Practice will help me with producing the thriller to make the film have an excellent opening sequence. Special effects for the opening of the thriller will require practice as I only must applied where is needed for the thriller. 6. improved since the preliminary task? The skills that I have learnt from the preliminary task has improved since then, as I had more understanding of how the software's such as Premiere Pro and After Effects work. As I have gain more knowledge of how Premiere Pro and After Effects work and what is the best way of doing things for the thriller; for example I used After Effects to make the titles for the thriller opening, as the software give me more a choice of how I want the titles to look like and do in the thriller opening. Furthermore the softwares I used in the thriller opening to ever make titles or designing logos for the production and distribution companies gave me more freedom to experiment with the different softwares and create something that works and looks the best for the thriller. Also I learnt more about film techniques from my theory side of media studies as I applied a film technique in the thriller itself- this was a cutaway I put in the thriller to show that I understand more camera and film techniques that I can apply them to the main task. In additionally I learnt for past experience with the preliminary task that not always your first draft is the best that I found out when it come to the end with doing the final addition of the film that I have a lot of previous drafts of the film. As for the main task before I have done the final version of how the thriller would look like that I had three to five drafts of the thriller. This means that I kept changing how the thriller would look like as I look for which clips is the best together or the order of the clips by changing the whole thriller opening like the name of the thriller. As in the planning and research the original name for the thriller was going to be In Thus Life but when in the production and post-production of the thriller that I changed the name to Cursed Life as I thought this name is better and fitted more to how the thriller was looking like at the time. 7. The old example of how my thriller would look like before we changed the name and the order of the clips. 8. Example of the flow show of how the first minute and half of the thriller looked like before the final version was released. 9. Example of the flow show of how the first minute and half of the thriller looked like in the end. 10. From the flow shows of the drafts for my thriller. From the first draft of my thriller, the name was going to be In Thus Life and started off with the main male character is dead on the ground as the idea was to show the ending at the beginning of the thriller as showing how he gets killed and the events that lead to the characters death. The second draft shows how the thriller has changed a lot since the first draft as the name of the thriller has changed to Cursed Life and the general starting has changed as the idea with showing the ending was discontinued. The third draft of the thriller was the final thing of how the opening would look like with all the changes in it that no more changes will occur. This shows that the idea of how the thriller would look like has changed a lot as states that you can have a lot of drafts of any film before you are satisfied with the final version of the film. Furthermore, we changed the ideas over the passed drafts of the opening, as we thought what is the best way to tell the opening to the audience as which draft may attracted the biggest audience and be the most successful. Also from the audience research I found out that the final version/draft is the best as it sets the theme to the story and has a better way of showing/telling the story to the audience.
