Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Before After

In the process I have learned what kind of photo is best to take based on what cover lines and what they are going to be about. For example my college

magazine front cover photo doesn’t depict any of the cover lines however my hybrid genre magazine depicts the interview cover line as well as the unseen

content cover line. I have also learned which fonts to used based on how serious and important the text is and how much it needs to stand out. In addition to this I have learned how to insert drop caps and how to keep everything aligned. In my

college magazine there are parts of the photo that need cleaning up which I wasn’t able to do, as I didn’t know which Photoshop tool to use. However I know

now that the Clone can be used for cleaning such imperfections. Another toll I learned to use during the process of making my final product was how to make photos black and white. Also in addition to this I learned how to use the mask layer tool, which allowed me to make the B+W layer hidden to reveal the full

colour of the models necklace throughout the final products.

The use of collecting feedback about my final products and information about what the target audience wanted was to find out what they wanted in a hybrid

genre music magazine and if there was anything in particular such as a particular convention or feature they like to stand out in a music magazine. Using my

feedback I created a music magazine that has features that will attract all members of the target audience such as simple feature article layouts, noticeable mastheads and information about the magazines website. This will ensure that

my magazine is successful therefore it will be able to be distributed and published by my desired company Bauer Media Group. I researched and

analysed Film and Television genre magazines as well as music magazines to see what makes both magazines popular, the use of conventions, layouts and fonts

used. This allowed me to see what stood out in both genres of magazines, which allowed me to make a hybrid genre magazine that appeals to both audiences. My

attention to detail was mostly to support and justify my reasons for having my main images as stills for the film my model is in. As the necklace the model is

wearing is one of the only features of the main images seen in full colour. This can therefore act as an enigma code, which will attract the audience to read more

and want to see the film that the model is in. Also compared to the grey scale effect on the models skin in the photos the necklace stands out which also makes

it a point of interest in the photo which supports the reason for it being an enigma code. In order to make sure my written work is accurate and without

fault I read it multiple times and copy and pasted the text into other documents and spell checking software’s to look for errors that I would need to change in

the final products.
