Page 2: Looking back at my preliminary task, what do I feel i have learnt in the progression from it to the final product?

• During the creation of the preliminary production task I had a relatively low understanding of how music magazines were produced and distributed. Since then I have gained an insight into this process and developed many skills in doing so.

• Firstly I have gained a Greater understanding of conventions and what effect they have. I have learnt what these conventions are and have incorporated into my work. I have also found out about the meanings that an image has and what effect the different aspects in the image have on the overall representation. These things include Framing, type of shot, props, facial expression and colour. All of these things contribute to the final meaning that the audience gain. I have learnt to incorporate these aspects into my work to deliver the message that I want.

• I have also gained knowledge about resizing and cropping images in Photoshop as well as taking a photo appropriate for where it will be going. In the preliminary task contents page, the image on the bottom is incorrectly sized resulting in it appearing stretched and skewed. I made sure this did not happen in the final production of Bezerk as it would look very unprofessional and unappealing . I also thought about whether a photograph should be taken portrait or landscape, relating that to its purpose In the magazine.

• I have learnt some new skills in Photoshop from the whole process. Both images from the preliminary task and main task had to cut out from their background however I feel that i was much more successful at this. I created the whole preliminary task using Adobe Photoshop however this would not be suitable for the main task, So I have taught myself how to use Adobe InDesign, which is much more suited to creating a magazine.

T• Something I felt I did quite poorly on the

preliminary task was getting the text to look right. There was not a range of sizes and fonts. Also I do not believe I had enough text on both the front page and contents page. This resulted in them looking plain and bland, with not enough content.

• I took this issue on board and made sure not to repeat it in the main task. I chose to attempt to fill out blank spaces with text or images.
