Leander and Henley Royal RegattaLeander is inextricably linked with the HenleyRoyal Regatta. The Regatta started as longago as 1839. Later, in 1896, as Leander’srowing pre-eminence was seen to bematched by Henley’s excellence as a venue,Leander decided to build a new clubhousethere.

Club emblemLeander’s emblem is the hippopotamus, known in Africa as ‘King of the River’, theonly animal equally at home on land andwater.

Leander’s club tie. Very few, if any, otherorganisations in the world have a tie that isa single colour without any emblem or othermarking. Only members with distinguishedservice to rowing are permitted to wear thecoveted pink livery.

So let’s get this straight.

The US Navy Test Pilot School, home to some of the world’s crackaviators, gets its watches fromHenley-on-Thames?

The home of cream teas, rowingand cute waterfowl?

Actually, it’s not as daft as it mightsound.

Because Henley is also the home ofa company called Bremont.

And, over the last ten years, we havedeveloped watches for more thanforty different squadrons, both hereand in America.

The US Navy asked us to designa timepiece for the elite pilots whotrain at their school in PatuxentRiver, Maryland.

People who cross time zones aboutas frequently as the rest of us crossthe street.

The result is a chronometer withan adjustable 24-hour hand, thatcan display local time anywhere inthe world, together with UniversalCoordinated Time (the standardizedtime zone used by the military).

Built by hand in our workshop, the mechanical movementundergoes an arduous testingprocess (something it has incommon with its wearers) and is99.998% accurate.

The case is made from a stainlesssteel that’s seven times harder thananything you’ll find in conventionalwatches. (We bombard our steel withelectrons to toughen it up.)

Then we add not one, but ninelayers of anti-reflective coating to thesapphire crystal for maximum clarityand hardness.

Some might call all this excessive. But it’s just the way we do thingshere in Henley-on-Thames.

The question is, how do you getyour hands on one of these finewatches?

Well, if you’re between the ages of17 and 34, and an American citizen, you can of course apply to join theUS Navy.

But if for any reason that provesproblematic, you’ll be pleased tohear we manufacture a version forcivilians, the Bremont World TimerALT1-WT.

For this, you need only apply withinat your nearest Bremont retailer.
