LAMBDA SIGMA NEWS The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Texas State Organization Lambda Sigma Chapter Missouri City, Texas Volume 30, Number 1 August, 2011 Area IV, Number 282 President: Cathie Ritchie Editor: Barb Hansen  [email protected]  [email protected]  President's Message Dear Lambda Sigma Sisters, WELCOME to our new year! One thing I am sure we can all agree on – t his has been the HOTTEST summer ever! Of course it was still quite enjoyable, as all summers are, an d it passed much too quickly. But I have good news - Lambda Sigma has come up with some very “c ool” programs and socials that I know you are going to love! Harriet Mantini and I attended our Delta Kappa Gamma State Convention in McAllen in June. What a wonderful experience that was! It is very inspiring to realiz e that we are a part of such a vibrant and distinguished group of educators. I am proud to report that our chapte r received an ANNIE Award for our exemplary programs. We need to thank Linda Russell, our firs t vice-president, for that achievement. I wish every one of us could attend a conv ention. In fact, our convention next June will be held in Las Colinas in Irving. I hope Lambda Sigma has a very large group attending. I can assure you that a good time will be had by all. Mary Ann Dolezal, Carla Meuth, Joan Eubanks, and Mary Crochet attended our Southwest Regional Convention in Denver, Colorado. They provided the “energizer entertainment” during the conference. They were so impressive that they have been invited to attend our N ational Convention in New York next summer. I think I’ll be willing to si ng and dance to be able to attend that conventi on with them. You will be hearing more about this during the year. Our chapter is fortunate to have such an energetic and motivated group of committee chairmen and officers. Our goal has been to ensure that you leave eac h meeting feeling that it was well w orth your time and effort to attend. Linda Russell has once again planned meaningful programs and delightful social events that I feel certain you will enjoy. Lambda Sigma’s new members are awesome! I am certainly looking forward to our first meeting at Christi Chrisman’s lovel y home on Saturday, August 20. We are going to initiate some superb new ladies who will make wonderful cont ributions to our chapter. I look forward to seeing you at t his important meeting. Our dues will remain the same as last year - $80 for active and $30 for reserve, even though we must pay $8 more to state. Dale Araujo, Treasurer, w ill explain this at our meeting. So, bring your checkbooks to the meeting. I look forward to seeing you on August 20. Fondly, Cathie Ritchie

Explore the Possibilities: Let Our Vision Light the Way

Explore…. Discover, Develop, ImplementPossibilities…Growth, Potential, ChoicesVision…Foresight, Concept, IdealLight…Brilliance, Insight, Enlightenment

As key women educators we must project our vision. We must use our energy tostrengthen the fulfillment of our purposes. We must find new ways to impacteducation throughout the global society and beyond the society into thecommunities of the world. The lighthouse and its light represent our vision:Leading Women Educators Impacting Education Worldwide . The mostimportant part of the lighthouse is what goes forth----the beam of light. We must be

the beam of light to guide the way toward our vision. How do we utilize this beam of the lighthouse to serve our quest of accomplishingour vision? It takes discovering and exploring possibilities, developing andstrengthening the potential that we find in chapters, appreciating and nurturinggrowth, having foresight to risk new ideas, and implementing the best choices toreach our vision. The brilliance of the light is our insight to what we learn byexploring the possibilities.
