SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL

The members of the SVDP La Purisima Conference, would like to

thank everyone for the continuous support. Last year 2015, we

were able to assist almost 300 people. For a total of $30,541.00.

With your generous donations we helped with clothing, food, rent

and utilities. Keeping families clothed, warm, fed, and housed, is a

gift from all who have donated. This Saturday & Sunday there will

be a SVDP’s collection. We thank you in advance for donating to

this wonderful Ministry. God Bless! We are now going to begin

our Toy drive for our Christmas H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Provide

Enough) store. Last year we had 97 families, and over 250 chil-

dren, that received 3 toys each. It was such a success. The par -

ents were allowed to select 3 gifts per child and wrap them before

leaving. These gifts are at NO COST to the parents. If you wish to

donate a gift, you may deliver them to the Pastoral Office, or to the

pre-school.

Keep your kids safe in parks this summer The weather outside is beautiful, and one of the best places to play

is the park. However, parents should start every visit to the park

with a discussion with their kids about safety plan. Kids should

know what to do if a stranger were to approach them, and who to

go to if they feel uncomfortable or threatened. Public parks are a

great place to play, but they are exposed to the public. Having a

safety plan in place can help parents and kids feel secure and play

QUESTIONNAIRE UPDATE

I want to thank you for your overwhelming response to the ques-

tionnaire I asked you to complete. From the five masses, we received

hundreds of completed English and Spanish questionnaires and many

of them had additional comments and suggestions.

At this point the staff is going through each completed questionnaire

and tabulating your responses. After they complete that process I will

review the results and discuss those results with the Pastoral Team to

determine the best course of action.

I private conversations with me, and through the comments/

suggestions on the questionnaires, some of the members of our com-

munity have suggested using the confessional. I am pleased to report

that I begun using the confessional during the times I celebrate the

Sacrament of Reconciliation.

I anticipate that within the next few weeks I will be able to share with

you the results of the questionnaires and the discussion of the Pastoral

Team. I will keep you posted as to our next course of action.

Old Mission Santa Inés is seeking a part-time Youth Minis-

ter to join the team developing a new program to actively

engage parish teens in the life of the Church. This position

could include Confirmation Coordinator depending upon

background. Candidate must be a practicing Catholic with

solid experience working with youth. A degree in theology

or religious studies or archdiocesan or national YM certifica-

tion is desirable. Must have excellent communication and

organizational skills (ideally, Spanish fluency as well) and

Jóvenes de tiempo parcial para unirse al equipo de desarrollo de un

¿SABÍA USTED?

Mantenga a sus hijos seguros en los parques este verano

El clima en el exterior está bello y uno de los mejores luga-

res para jugar es el parque. Sin embargo, los padres de fami-

lia deben comenzar toda visita al parque con una plática con

sus hijos sobre un plan de seguridad. Los niños deben saber

qué hacer si un extraño se les acerca, y a quien ir si ellos se

sienten incómodos o amenazados. Los parques públicos son

un gran lugar para jugar, pero están expuestos al público.

Contar con un plan de seguridad puede ayudar a los padres

de familia y a los niños a sentirse seguros y a jugar seguros

este verano.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

Del 1o al 5 de agosto los capitalinos en El Salvador celebran la

fiesta del Salvador del Mundo, cuando recuerdan la Transfiguración de

Jesús en el Monte Tabor. Como muchas fiestas patronales en Latinoa-

mérica esta semana está llena de carnavales y desfiles. La celebración

principal es una procesión religiosa con la imagen de Jesús, el Divino

Salvador del mundo. La estatua de Jesús con sus brazos extendidos en

bendición es llevada desde la Basílica del Sagrado Corazón hasta la

Catedral Metropolitana. Vestida de un rojo que recuerda su pasión, la

imagen es cargada sobre los hombros de una veintena de fieles. Al

llegar a la catedral la imagen patronal es puesta en una torre de más de

20 metros de alto. Eventualmente la estatua revestida de blanco apare-

ce de una esfera encima de la torre en medio de gritos, aplausos y can-

tos. Esta esfera azul representa el mundo entero, mundo salvado por

Cristo. La transfiguración de esta imagen en San Salvador recuerda la

pasión y resurrección de Jesús, eventos claves que han hecho de él, el

Salvador del Mundo entero.

ACTUALIZACION DE CUESTIONARIO

Quiero darles las gracias por sus abrumadoras respuestas al cues-

tionario que les pedí que completaran. De las cinco misas, hemos

recibido cientos de cuestionarios completados en inglés y español

y muchos de ellos tenían comentarios y sugerencias adicionales.

A este punto, el personal está revisando cada cuestionario comple-

tado y la tabulación de las respuestas. Después de completar ese

proceso voy a revisar los resultados y discutir los resultados con el

Equipo Pastoral para determinar la mejor acción que vamos a to-

mar.

A través de las conversaciones privadas conmigo, y los comenta-

rios / sugerencias en los cuestionarios, algunos de los miembros de

nuestra comunidad han sugerido utilizar el confesionario. Me com-

place informar que empecé a usar el confesionario las veces que

he celebrado el Sacramento de la Reconciliación.

Anticipo que dentro de las próximas semanas voy a poder compar-

tir con ustedes los resultados de los cuestionarios y la discusión del

Equipo Pastoral. Los mantendré informados de la determinación

que tomaremos.
