Interested in becoming more involved in St.
Brendan Parish or know a fellow parishioner
who would be? If so, consider running yourself,
or nominating someone for one of the three
open seats on the Parish Council. Elections are
scheduled for the weekend of July 14th and
15th. Elected members will serve a three year
term. It is very important for the Catholic laity
to be informed and involved with the functions
of the parish. Please consider a run for a
council seat and accept this needed and
important leadership role.Please contact Fr.
Porterfield, any Parish Council Member or the
parish office at 5735814720.
Come join us for

SCRIP NEWS
Dear parishioners of St. Brendan,
I am so excited to begin as your pastor! I am grateful to our Bishop, W. Shawn McKnight, for
this appointment and to Fr. Porterfield for his faithful service. Here is a little information about
me.
I was born in Berkeley, California, where my parents were living at the time, but I grew up in
Hannibal. Both my parents (Larry and Joanne) are from Missouri. My father (now retired)
worked as a supervisor for the Department of Mental Health and later as Director of Outreach
Services for the Missouri School for the Deaf. My father grew up hearing but became deaf
through illness in 1999. My mother has worked as an advocate for children in various capacities, especially as
program director for CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates), helping children in the foster care system, and
later at the Fulton Treatment Center. She currently works at the Cornerstone Group Home in Columbia. My
parents now live in Fulton. I have a younger brother, Dakota, who lives in Sioux City, Iowa, with his wife (Linsey)
and their three children. He does content management and some other IT and managerial work.
My family’s return (and conversion) to the practice of the Catholic faith is one of the most important events in my
life. Realizing that God was interested in me and wanted to meet me in a visible, tangible way in the sacraments
and in prayer changed my life and became the root of my priestly vocation. I started at (now closed) St. Thomas
Aquinas Preparatory Seminary in Hannibal to see whether the priesthood was a good fit for me and whether God
was inviting me to help others experience him through the sacraments as I had.
I studied philosophy at Conception Seminary College and theology at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis. I was
ordained a priest in 2010. I first served as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Lourdes in Columbia, then at
Immaculate Conception in Jefferson City, and then at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City. I was also the
Master of Ceremonies to Bishop Gaydos and served in a few other roles. I spent six months as parochial
administrator of St. Mary in Glasgow and St. Joseph in Slater before moving to Washington, D.C., where I began
my studies toward a Ph.D. in systematic theology.
One year ago, I moved back to the diocese to work on my dissertation and to serve in Jefferson City as well as at
St. Mary in Milan and Unionville. As I now begin as pastor for the people of St. Brendan, I thank you for welcoming
me and for your prayers. I have been praying for you since I learned of this assignment. I look forward to getting
to know you and to growing closer to Jesus together.
The Bishop has also appointed me to several diocesan positions: Moderator for Youth/Young Adults and
Religious Education; Chaplain to Homeschooling Families; and Delegate for the Extraordinary Form. These are
great opportunities, but it will also take awhile to figure out how to balance these roles.
As your pastor, my primary goal is the glory of God and the salvation of souls, pursued especially through divine
worship, the teaching of the Catholic faith, and pastoral care. I will need your help, prayers, and patience as we
strive together to know and love our Lord, to take up our crosses in union with him, and to serve him in our
neighbor. I promise to continue praying for you.
In Christ, Fr. Dylan Schrader
The Knights of Columbus Council #3760 will be picking up the
baby bottles that were handed out at the Masses
several weeks ago.
Bottles can also be dropped off at the rectory office. We will have
a large baby bottle in the back of church for
anyone who did not get a baby bottle and wants to make a dona-
tion to this wonderful cause!!
Money from this campaign is used to maintain and update the Ultrasound machines.
