Small Church Communities will begin in February. Sign up next weekend after Masses.

Our parish is participating in Living the Eucharist. This Lenten spiritual renewal program provides us with

opportunities to grow in our faith through learning more about the Eucharist, participating more actively in Sunday Mass, and Living the Eucharist each day as disciples of Jesus. Two Sign-Up Sundays will take place January 6 and 7, and January 13 and 14, 2018. Please consider joining a small group, a teen group, or participating with your family. Try using the Lenten devotional book, From Exodus to Easter: My Daily Journey Through Lent. Trate de usar el libro devocional de Cuaresma, “From Exodus to Easter: My Daily Journey Through Lent”. Viviendo la Eucaristía.

8 Celebrating our Diversity December 31, 2017

Year of the Eucharist (Continued from last week) As we begin the Year of the Eucharist may we reflect on these words from our bishop Most Reverend John Noonan. The Eucharist is the bond of love uniting us to Christ to carry out His mission of making known the presence of God in our midst, a God who continues to suffer in our sister and brother who are hungry, thirsty, sick imprisoned. Eucharistic spirituality must embrace the whole of our lives. Each of us is truly called, together with Jesus, to be bread broken for the life of the world. We long to recognize Jesus Christ the Lord in the breaking of the bread. We seek conversion that we may be transformed by his presence. We plead forgiveness so we may offer His Peace to each other. We take hope today that through the Eucharist, we too can taste and feel Jesus’ fulfilled promise, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20).

BEARERS OF THE WORD The Church has placed a number of notable feast days immediately after Christmas. The feasts of Stephen, John the Evangelist, and the Holy Innocents form a sum-mary of the life lived in Christ, the Word made flesh. What do these have to do with the feast of the Holy Fam-ily, which crowns the Octave of Christmas? These feasts remind us that suffering will occur in fulfilling the mis-sion of Christ, and that we are all called to be bearers of this Word whose birth we celebrate. We also see this manifested in the lives of Joseph and Mary, both of whom took social and religious risks in obedience to the will of God, and both of whom were open to the word of God sent to them from on high. In these ways they prefigured the life of Jesus himself. Most likely, few of us found ourselves at Mass this past Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but the essence of these feasts and the essence of the holiness of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus remain central, a holiness we celebrate today.
