July Happenings in Waikiki

Come celebrate July happenings in Waikiki, one of the most spectacular and world-famous places in Hawaii. Many exciting music concerts and other events await you.

Ala Moana Beach Park Independence Day Celebration

Celebrate Independence Day as fireworks light the night sky over Ala Moana Beach Park. It is one of the largest fireworks shows in the country! Lots of fun and excitement for the whole family!

Other events taking place in Waikiki that you just do not want to miss is the ongoing Twilight Summer Concert Series. The first scheduled appearance will be U.S. Army Papana (Band). This will take place in the Foster Botanical Garden. The Twilight Summer Concert Series is held from 4.30 to 7 pm. This is a free event which many people partake in.

13th Annual Korean Festival

Magic Island at the Ala Moana Beach Park will host the 13th Annual Korean Festival this year. This is one of the largest cultural events in Hawaii. Cultural exhibits, entertainment, and all the flavors of Korea will surely delight young and old alike. This cultural event runs from 10 am to 9pm on Saturday, July 12, 2014.

Some of the cultural displays and venues at the 13th Annual Korean Festival will include– entertainment, music, dance, food, and art. A Korean song contest, fan and drum dances, as well as a Taekwondo demonstration are just a few highlights of this event.

And, let’s not forget about the delicious foods of Korea. Korean chefs will show you how to cook various Korean dishes in various tents. You will also be able to participate in the famous Kim Chi eating contest! Taste the savory dishes offered by various vendors. Kalbi, Mandoo, and Tteokbokki are just three dishes that will delight your palate. Try some of them for yourself as you visit Waikiki, Hawaii.

Not only does the Korean Festival satisfy your appetite for food. A prime feature of the Korean Festival is music. This year’s entertainer headliner is none other than the extremely popular male KPOP group, known as M.Pire.

Prince Lot Hula Festival

Summer family vacations in Waikiki also mean viewing hula dancers. One of the summer events during the month of July include the 37th Prince Lot Hula Festival. This event is non-competitive and takes place on Saturday, July 19th from 9 am to 4 pm.

The Prince Lot Hula Festival is a free event that is held at the magnificent Moanalua Gardens in Honolulu, Oahu. Some noted events include a craft fair, poi pounding, hula group dancers, cultural demonstrations and so much more.

This cultural presentation is held every year to give thanks and honor Prince Lot Kapuaiwa who returned right to hula in the district of Moanalua. Kumu Hula Robert Cazimero opens the show followed by an impressive line-up of hula groups that perform traditional hula or contemporary forms of the dance.

Workshops as well as a craft venue called “Made inHawaii” are other highlights of this venue. The event isfree of charge. Hawaii All Collectors Show

Those that like to collect vintage Hawaiian antiques and collectibles will surely want to visit the Hawaii All Collectors show. This venue features many Hawaiian vendors all under one roof. Vendors from the Outer Islands, Mainland U.S.A., Japan, and Oahu will be present.

Some of this venues highlights will include toys, dolls, décor, surfing, sports cards, comics, Anime, Hawaiian Monarchy documents, kimonos, furniture, kitchen goods, estate jewelry, medals, coins, flowers, autographs, and so much more.

44th Annual Oahu Ukulele Festival

The 44th Annual Oahu Ukulele Festival welcomes visitorsand locals alike. It is held every July at Kapiolani Park onOahu. Local celebrities, internationally known musicians,and ukulele players from around the world donate their time and talent to entertain you.

Hope, love, and laughter is definitely transmitted to the huge audience as a ukulele orchestra of over 800 studentsplay this instrument.

5th Annual Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival

Enjoy the sounds of the steel guitar at the 5th annual Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival held at the Waikiki Beach Walk at 201 Beachwalk. Featured presenters include – Alan Akaka, Owana Salazar, Bobby Ingano, Jeff Au Hoy, and Eddie Palama. You will also be thrilled and entertained by Ke Kula Mele's Makua Class and members of the next generation of Hawaiian steel guitar players.

Make sure to come early to this free event so you can get a good seat on the lawn. The 5 th Annual Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival is one of the Waikiki happenings that will enthrall and entertain you.

Paddleboard Championship

Paddle boarders excite the audience at the Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Championship. This is a 32-mile race across the Kaiwi Channel. International Prone and Stand Up Paddle boarderswill compete, starting at the west end of Molokai and arrive on Oahu.

This free event is in its 18th year and has some of the world’s best traditional and stand-up paddle boarders from around the world. Explore the culture and traditions of Hawaii and see for yourself who becomes the next world champion in both of these events.
