A Message From Our Pastor.

Dear Friends, The past couple of weeks have been times of transition. Two weeks ago, we said good bye to Father Stephen Lundrigan. Last week we said hello to Father Eric Asante. This weekend we say good bye to Thiago DaSilva. Thiago is a very modest young man, but his quiet, consistent hard work has been a pleasure. He has done a lot more in the parish than he has given himself credit for. We look forward to seeing him again. We won’t forget him, as we haven’t forgotten Victor Sierra. Thiago will be at the same seminary as Victor, just one year behind him. The road to ordination isn’t easy. Nothing worthwhile is. Then again, all of us, at one time or another, have felt exhausted with labor and heavy burdens, wherever our road in life leads us. We sometimes wonder if all the work is worthwhile, or even if we have the stamina to finish the job. Jesus reminds us in today’s Gospel that he is rest for the weary and strength for weak. We have been conditioned to do it on our own. “The Lord helps those who help themselves,” we are told. That’s not bad advice at times. We don’t want to become lazy and dependent. But we have to realize that we can’t do everything on our own. We have a right to take a break. Jesus says he is there waiting for us, to embrace us and give us strength. The first reading today, from the Prophet Zechariah, is filled with optimism and joy. The people of Israel, as symbolized by daughter Zion and daughter Jerusalem, rejoice in the coming of the Messiah. He is the one who is their hope, the fulfillment of God’s promise. Yet he comes in an unexpected way. He comes, not leading an army, but alone, on a colt, about the size of a pony. Even so, from that seat upon the gentle colt, he will banish the intimidating chariots, the powerful horses, and the warrior’s bow. Truly Jerusalem will be a city of peace. The strength of the Messiah will be manifest in his gentleness. The gentle strength of the Messiah, as prophesized in this reading, is the gentle strength of Jesus which embraces the weary, those who need comfort and consolation. Summertime is here and it’s time to slow down, take a vacation, and rest a bit. But Jesus in here in the summer, winter, spring and fall, always ready to receive us in his love, to remove from us the burdens of everyday life and replace them with his gentle yoke of mercy and compassion. May God bless you all, Father Bob Bruso

Thanks to all our parishioners who have made their gift to the 2017 Partners in Charity Appeal. To date St. Cecilia Parish has raised $49,053 which is 98% towards our goal of $50,000. You may notice that the amount received has gone down slightly. The Partners in Charity office informed us last week, they had inadvertently posted a pledge twice. If you have not yet made a gift or pledge, we need your help to each our goal, we are so close, please fill out a commitment pledge envelope located in the pew today or visit www.partners-charity.net. Partners in Charity, formerly known as the Bishop’s Fund, is the Annual Appeal for the Diocese of Worcester, serving 30 charitable, educational, and pastoral ministries. Through your generous support we are able to serve thousands of families and individuals in Worcester County through outreach, formation, evangelization, and worship. Thank you!

Maureen Moriarty and

One day we will come, the next we will leave. Today I am saying goodbye to you all, because sadly my mission here has come to an end. I want to thank God for the blessings bestowed on us during these 10 weeks in which we have been together. I would also like to thank all of you for your welcome, friendship, and prayers. I could have done more for this parish, and I acknowledge my faults and my limitations. So, I ask God’s forgiveness and your forgiveness for any mistakes that I may have made. I would like to have learned the name of each person, to have entered each house, visited all the families, but it was not possible. Please allow me a place in your hearts, and I also hold a place in my heart to welcome each one and say thank you for everything. As l leave for another mission, but I will never forget the time we spent together. I will always remember every person that I have met here, every person that I hugged, the festive moments and

fraternal living that we had. I promise to always be united to you in my prayers, and I ask for your continued prayers for me. May Father Bob, his co-workers and all the faithful be enlightened by the power of the Holy Spirit. My Brothers and sisters in Christ, I need your prayers. Please, ask God to make me NOT just a priest, but a GOOD priest. Thank you for being part of my life.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Pope's Prayer Intention for July

Lapsed Christians: That our brothers and sisters who have

strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the

Gospel, may rediscover the merciful closeness of the Lord and

the beauty of the Christian life.

“I feel so helpless. It seems so hopeless. What can I do to get my

adult children back to church?” These words can be heard in

almost every family. It’s something that Pope Francis has heard

and this month he asks us to do something in response.

First, he asks us to pray for “our brothers and sisters.” Those who have left the faith are still

children of the Father who created them. Through baptism they are members of the Body of

Christ. If we are concerned for them, how much more is Jesus, who shed his Precious Blood for

them. When we pray, we share our concern with the Lord who shares his concern with us. Sharing

in this way, we are drawn closer to Jesus.

Then we act. Not nagging, but gently loving. Members of the Body of Christ, we make the merciful

love of Jesus tangible to others. The only sermon they may hear and listen to is the one we preach

with our loving actions. Through us, those who are wandering can “rediscover the merciful close-

ness of the Lord and the beauty of the Christian life.” Our continued prayer brings grace into their

lives and it changes us so that our witness is more consistent.

Pope Francis said: “Let us all remember this: one cannot proclaim the Gospel of

Jesus without the tangible witness of one’s life. Those who listen to us and

observe us must be able to see in our actions what they hear from our lips, and

so give glory to God! I am thinking now of some advice that St. Francis of Assisi

gave his brothers: preach the Gospel and, if necessary, use words. Preaching

with your life, with your witness. Inconsistency on the part of pastors and the

faithful between what they say and what they do, between word and manner of

life, is undermining the Church’s credibility.”

“The challenge is to make the Church’s ‘yes’ to Life concrete and effective. The struggle will be long, and it needs each one of you. Place your intelligence, your talents, your enthusiasm, your compassion and your fortitude at the service of life!” —Pope John Paul II, “Homily,”August 15, 1993. © 1993 Libreria Editrice Vaticana.
