There’s so much to see and experience in Jamaica. While you’re only here for a short visit, it is our hope that Jamaica’s over 150 activities and attractions will be appealing and intriguing, so much

so, that you will return to explore the island’s rich cultural heritage and natural scenic beauty.

Whatever your interest, this destination has something for everyone, no matter your port of entry. This guide provides a list of things to do and see by resort area, but bear in mind that this is only a

sampling of what our island has to offer. Distances are reasonably short from one resort area tothe next, making it possible to arrive in one resort area and enjoy the attractions in another.

Croydon in the MountainsA 132-acre working plantation in the foothills of the Catadupa mountains (45 minutes from Montego Bay). Its main crops are coffee, pineapples, plantains and citrus. Guided half-day tour.Open: Tues, Wed, Fri, from 10:30am to 2:30pm

Greenwood Great HouseOver 200 years old. Formerly owned by the family of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the famous English poet, Greenwood is one of the best preserved great houses on the island. Open daily: 9:00am to 6:00pm

Rafting on the Martha Brae90-minute river trip on Jamaica’s premier river-rafting attraction.Open daily: 8:30am to 4:30pm, except on public holidays

Rose Hall Great HouseThe White Witch awaits you in the great house at Rose Hall. Although she died more than a century ago, Annie Palmer still stirs memories of her reign as the mistress of the Rose Hall Great House (below).Open daily: 9:00am to 6:00pm; Night tours: 6:30pm to 9:15pm

ShoppingFort Montego Craft Market This old fort once guarded Montego Bay Harbour. Today, it contains the remains of an artillery store and a few well–preserved cannons as well as several souvenir and craft shops.

Harbour Street Craft MarketLocated on three blocks between Barnett and Market Street downtown Montego Bay, you can find a good selection of handmade souvenirs of Jamaica, including straw hats and bags, wooden platters, straw baskets, musical instruments, beads, carved objects, and toys.

The Shoppes at Rose HallLocated along Jamaica’s elegant corridor, the Shoppes at Rose Hall offer a luxurious blend of specialty retail stores featuring international jewelers, lifestyle brands, specialty souvenirs and first class food, that creates an unforgettable shopping experience.

Whitter Village Located in Ironshore, on the eastern side of the island’s tourist capital, this shopping center is easily identified by its landmark Clock Tower. With its theme of a traditional Jamaican town center, featuring a beautifully landscaped Village Square and Main Street. The mall is a great place to shop, dine, meet friends and chill.

Restaurants/Entertainment Margaritaville Caribbean Bar & GrillLocated on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip, the menu features burgers, fajitas, grilled specialties and authentic local fare. Activities also include bouncing on a giant water trampoline, relaxing in a rooftop hot tub, or riding the monster slide that plunges 110 feet into the sea.

ScotchiesThe smoke streaming out of the kitchen, the meat cooking over pimento wood — you know your taste buds will definitely come alive. The atmosphere is laid back and has become a favorite with visitors to the island craving a taste of Jamaica before heading home!

Montego Bay

Montego Bay, popularly called Mobay, is Jamaica’s tourist capital.

It is the second largest city and a major cruise port with numerous

beach resorts and the Montego Bay Convention Centre. This resort

region also includes the popular Doctor’s Cave Beach as well as

snorkeling and diving at coral reefs in the protected waters

of the Montego Bay Marine Park.

Falmouth Heritage Walking TourFalmouth Heritage Walks offers a guided walking tour of Falmouth, a historic port town perfectly laid out to be explored by walkers. If you are a history buff, walker, or admirer of British colonial architecture, this tour is for you! Colonel Thomas Reid founded the town in 1769, and the historic fabric that remains will delight visitors as they leisurely walk on streets that were laid down over 240 years ago.

River Bumpkin FarmNestled in the heart of the lush Trelawny forests, this gorgeous plantation takes you off-the-beaten-path to a site brimming with exciting eco-excursions. From river tubing and kayaking on the Martha Brae River to bicycle trekking past historic ruins, River Bumpkin Farm is the perfect place for the entire family to enjoy.

ShoppingAlbert George Market The Albert George market was established just off Water Square in 1895. The market was a hub of activity and anything could be bought here. The market gets its name from Queen Victoria’s two sons — Albert and George. Currently, the market sells mainly crafts and produce. To give a flavour of the market’s historic setting there are several antique artifacts on display in the market such as stills and crushing wheels.

Note to Visitors: Don’t leave the cruise port without some Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, one of the finest in the world, or your Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum.

Restaurants/Entertainment Glistening Waters This well recommended restaurant and sports bar, which overlooks the lovely lagoon serves mostly local cuisine and lots of seafood dishes. The Luminous Lagoon is known around the world as Jamaica’s only night-time attraction! Come out and experience what nature has to show you at this remarkable spot, where you will witness a phenomenon that only occurs in certain parts of the world.Open: 10:00 am- 9:30 pm

Pepper’s Jerk CenterFalmouth is home to some of the best preserved Georgian era architecture, and Pepper’s Jerk Center is set in former slave quarters. As such, the location remains authentic and has not been modernized. Taste the savory jerked chicken, jerked pork, curried shrimp, curried chicken, escoveiched fish, barbecued chicken and more.

A former fishing village, it’s now a resort with a cruise ship harbor

and a busy bay beach lined with hotels. The fern-clad hills and cascading

waterfalls of Ocho Rios are located in the heart of the north-coast

region. The surrounding parish of Saint Ann is home to a rainforest,

rivers and waterfalls, including Dunn’s River Falls, a terraced 180 meter

mountain waterfall with lagoon pools, surrounded by trees.

Dunns River Falls & ParkVisitors can make the 600 feet climb from the base of the falls, hand-in-hand like a human daisy chain. Guides at Dunn’s River Falls are skilled at leading you up the falls and can use your camera to take your picture as you pose under the many falls. Open daily: 8:30am to 4:00pm

Green Grotto CavesIntriguing network of chambers and passageways, stalactites and stalagmites and small lakes. Green Grotto is said to have been a haven for runaway slaves in the 18th century. Open daily

Mystic MountainSoar above the tree tops up to 700 feet to the top of Mystic Mountain and enjoy a ride through the rainforest on Bobsled Jamaica, the park’s signature attraction, and a thrilling ride through tropical landscapes on sleds, or take the zip line through the lush green forest.Open: Sun-Thurs, 9am to 5pm & Fri-Sat, 9am to 10pm

Seville Great HouseThe Seville Great House and Heritage Park is one of Jamaica’s most interesting and informative cultural attractions. The history behind the Seville Great House is one of legend as it was here that Christopher Columbus first came in contact with the Taino Indians. Open daily: 9:00am to 5:00pm

ShoppingIsland VillageA multifaceted entertainment center with shopping, dining, film, cybercafé, gaming, art and a beach, plus an interactive celebration of Reggae music, from Ska to Dancehall.Open daily

Ocho Rios Craft ParkHere a vendor will weave a hat or a basket while you wait, or you can buy a ready-made hat, hamper, handbag, lamp shade or place mats. Other stands stock hand-embroidered goods and will make small items while you wait. Woodcarvers work on bowls, ashtrays, statues, & cups.

Ocean Village Shopping Centre One of the original shopping malls in Ocho Rios with numerous boutiques, food stores, a bank, sundries purveyors, travel agencies, and other service facilities.

Restaurants/Entertainment Evita’s Italian RestaurantEnjoy fine dining in an authentic 1860’s Gingerbread house with wooden floors and mahogany bar. You can enjoy lunch or dinner indoors or outdoors, on the verandah overlooking Ocho Rios. Evita’s is where Northern Italian taste gracefully blends with the gentle charm of Old Jamaica to create an unforgettable dining experience.

Margaritaville Ocho RiosThis property features a rooftop whirlpool hot tub and a two-story 100-foot long waterslide that soars above the main bar and plunges into the fresh water pool below with a swim-up bar. The downstairs area boasts an ambiance of beach and relaxation throughout the day, urban and “nightclub” by night.

Music by UNESCO. Northeast of the city, the Blue and John Crow Mountains,

a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are home to the renowned coffee-growing

region. Kingston is also Jamaica’s cultural heart, with a wide variety of

Devon HouseSitting on 11 lush acres, the stately Devon House mansion was the home of Jamaica’s first black millionaire, George Stiebel. Fort Charles and the Maritime Museum at Port RoyalThe oldest and greatest of the ancient city’s six fortresses, Fort Charles was built in the 17th century. Lord Horatio Nelson, Admiral Rodney, Sir Henry Morgan and many other famous men strode proudly across the ramparts of this fearsome fort, which boasted as many as 104 cannons and 500 men.Open daily: 9:30am to 4:30pm

National Art Gallery of JamaicaLocated in the Kingston Mall, the National Gallery of Jamaica is Jamaica’s premier art collection housing several important works, mostly by artists from Jamaica, including Mallica “Kapo” Reynolds, Cecil Baugh, Albert Huie, Carl Abrahams, Petrona Morrison, Hope Brooks, and Edna Manley. Open: Tue-Thur 10am-4:30pm; Fri 10am-4pm; Sat 10am-3pm

Peter Tosh MuseumDevoted to the legacy of the great Peter Tosh, visitors can view photos and artifacts from the revolutionary musician’s life, including his M-16 rifle shaped guitar —a gift Tosh received in 1983 from a teenage fan while on tour in California — and his Grammy award for Best Reggae Album, awarded posthumously in 1988 for “No Nuclear War.”Open: Mon-Fri 10:30am-7pm and Sat 10am to 6pm

Restaurants/Entertainment Gloria’sThe most critically acclaimed seafood restaurant in Kingston (and many peoples’ favourite in all of Jamaica) is Gloria’s in Port Royal. Gloria’s is only a 10 minute drive from Norman Manley airport, making it a great spot for your first taste of Jamaica after you land (or last taste before you leave), just be sure to leave enough time to catch your flight! ToursBlue LagoonLocals say Blue Lagoon is bottomless, but this is a wildly popular travel destination for families and honeymooners. With glistening, turquoise blue waters surrounded by lush greenery, Blue Lagoon is a vision of beauty. The water seems to have a bit of magic to it, as the color changes throughout the day, depending upon the way the sun shines upon the surface.

Rio Grande RaftingThe Rio Grande is a massive river in eastern Jamaica that curves through the lush rainforests of the island. Visitors can experience a raft excursion lke no other along the Rio Grande. Passangers sit on the back of the raft while up front, a skilled raft captain will stand at the bow of the raft and guide the raft down the Rio Grande with powerful strides from a long paddle. Valley HikesPerfect for the adventure traveler who really wants to get out and see more of Jamaica, Valley Hikes offers guided hikes into some of the most interesting regions of the island. ShoppingThe VillageThe village consists of artists and artisans, of fine art, furniture, gift shops with fashions and a variety of Jamaica memorabilia, and restaurants, including a juice bar. There are not one, but two nationally recognized Jamaican artists selling their wares in The Village, whose works include drawings, paintings, ceramics, and sculpture.

Musgrave MarketMusgrave Market is the “go to” place in Port Antonio, especially on Friday and Saturday mornings, when it is the hub of downtown activity. Area farmers bring their fresh harvests each week to supply the freshest fruits and vegetables displayed in open air booths. The Market is also the place where you will find the most variety of Jamaica souvenir t-shirts, tank tops, dresses, hats, you name it.

Restaurants/Entertainment Anna BananaNeed seafood? Jerk? An open-air bar? Head to this perennially popular breezy restaurant-bar, overlooking the beach on the southern lip of the bay,which specializes in jerk or barbecued chicken and pork as well as fresh conch and lobster. Open daily: 10am-10pm

Dickie’s Best Kept SecretA tiny pointy-roofed seaside hut on the western outskirts of Port Antonio – offers enormous five-course meals in rooms best described as Bob Marley meets Alice in Wonderland. There’s not always a menu, but trust their suggestion that anything will be delicious. Open: 6pm-10pm Reservations essential!

Mille FleursRestaurant Mille Fleurs offers romantic dining on the verandah with magnificent views overlooking Port Antonio, the Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea.
