IntroductionIrene McCormack Catholic College introduced the Swimming Scholarship in 2019. The scholarship is available to boys and girls in Year 7 to 12 who wish to pursue excellence in the sport of swimming.

Aims of the ScholarshipSupplementing the holistic education provided by the College, the Swimming Scholarship at Irene McCormack Catholic College aims to develop interpersonal skills, mental skills, physical skills and fitness.

Structure of the ScholarshipStudents selected to receive the Swimming Scholarship will represent Irene McCormack Catholic College. Students are expected to develop through club and College squad swimming training, meets, carnivals and competitions. Students will be selected to represent the College in Associated and Catholic Colleges competitions.

Students receiving the Swimming Scholarship are expected to nominate to compete with Arena Swim Club. Students will receive expert coaching from Arena Swim Club coaches and Irene McCormack staff through squad training sessions, camps, meets, carnivals and competitions.

The Swimming Scholarship caters for full-time students enrolled at Irene McCormack Catholic College. The College welcomes applications from currently enrolled Irene McCormack Catholic College Students and students from other schools. Selection will be based on both academic performance and athletic levels. Positive attitudes towards both aspects will be an important part of selection for the scholarship. Reports will be required from the student’s current school and a reference from a swim club.

The selection process will include scrutiny of references and school reports, as well as participation in swim squad trials conducted by the College.

Successful applicants will be required to meet the following expectations: • Commitment to all swim club squad trainings, meets and competitions.• Be available for all Coastal Associated Schools, School Sports WA, and interschool fixtures.• Attend all College swim squad trainings, camps, trials, meets and competitions unless otherwise arranged with

their coach.• Notify their coach of expected absence or inability to take part as soon as possible.• Represent the College to the best of their ability in all competitions, classes and training sessions.• Purchase, wear and maintain the correct uniform and equipment at all times• Demonstrate exemplary behaviour in line with the College standards, during all excursions and incursions.• Demonstrate the upmost sportsmanship at all times.• Demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement in every class.

Scholarship InclusionsA limited number of Scholarships are available for students entering at all year levels. The scholarships cover 100% of the applicable training fees/costs at Arena Swim Club for the student. Transportation can be provided for the students from school to training.
