All About Ms. Mari’s Preschool and Pre-Kinder

In March, we celebrated Dr. Seuss and we did a few

cooking projects that really excited the kids!! We made

some green scrambled eggs after we read Green Eggs

and Ham, and a little guy came back to me and said

that his mom always says, “Green Eggs and Lamb” be-

cause it rhymes better, and it is not bad for you! I was

inspired and I might be trying that next year!

I was so excited that they loved eating

scrambled eggs, that after we read Oh

The Places You’ll Go!, I let them make

rainbow toast!

Finally, the weather is finally changing

into Spring and we have been able to

make it outside!! We are going to

spend as much time possible outside

until the end of the year!

Ms. Wafaa’s Kindergarten Classroom

We are marching into spring! The school year is nearing its end! Third quarter was a busy time for us where so many events took place. Oh my! Oh my! How did the days go by so fast? Kindergarteners are continuing to learn to read and write as they are becoming more mature and responsible citizens not only in our classroom but in our school community. We are continuing to work on the three values: responsibility, respect, and safety while continuing to work on im-proving their Stamina, doing something for a long period of time without giving up or getting tired. Academically in reading kindergarteners are working on their decoding skills, reading long vowel words, multisyllabic words, chunking, fluency, and comprehension skills. They are also working on becoming word detectives while increasing their oral vocabulary back-grounds. They are learning how to use different strategies in decoding including looking for visual and structural cues when reading new words. We are all into good books and our favorites are: The Cat in the Hat, One Fish, Two Fish, and Red fish, Yellow Fish, Blue Fish, and Fox in Sox. Remember that Readers are leaders!!! We also celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. We had a full week of Seuss activities in math and science including predicting, measuring, recording data and conducting surveys.

We also celebrated culture Day. We explored Brazil, its culture, land marks, language, and its cuisine . Moreover , we celebrated the 100 day mark with reading books, math , science and studies ac-

tivities.

I would like to thank all the parents for their

continued support of our classroom and our

school! May Allah bless you all!

Page 6

Ms. Sherry’s 1st Grade Classroom It’s hard to believe that the 3rd nine weeks is already over! First grade has really been working hard. In math we covered time, geometry, and fractions. In reading, we have been working on harder concepts such as problem and solution and cause and effect. We also celebrated the Hundredth Day of School! Students were given the opportunity to go to each of the elementary teachers to complete an activity related to the hundredth day. Students had the chance to see how many licks it took to get to the center of a tootsie pop, pizza graphing, comparing school to-day to 100 years ago, and complete some thumbprint art. We also had our culture day during this nine weeks. First grade learned all about the Netherlands. The students learned about the food, clothing, symbols, and places. We made Dutch hats and wooden shoes to wear on Culture Day.

In the fourth nine weeks, we will be working on graphing and measurement. We will also be reviewing everything we have worked on this year. In reading, we will be getting into some of our toughest concepts this year: theme and author’s purpose. Please contin-ue to make sure your child is reading nightly and doing their math homework.

Ms. Pam’s 2nd Grade Classroom Wow can you believe we are counting down the last few weeks of school! We have been

very busy! We are learning about fractions, multiplying and dividing. We have been working on a class book with Ms. Jane’s class. We continue to work on fact fluency incorporating multiplication and division. We have only one 5 week unit of reading left. We completed 5 units in all. Writing is a challenge at times. We continue to work on drafting, editing, revising and publishing our work. We are learning about our world around

us in Science and Social Studies. The students have been working hard on their dramatic play and songs for the fundraising dinner. We look forward to the alphabet countdown and the end of the year picnic. Keep up the great work! 3rd

grade is just around the corner. I am a very proud of my class. They have worked extremely hard in all subjects. I look forward to seeing what’s in store for this group.

Page 7

Ms. Jane’s 3rd Grade Classroom Spring is finally here, and we couldn’t be happier in our classroom! As you know, we just finished the state I-Read test. Our third graders seemed to think the test was easy for them. Now, we are practicing and looking ahead to the I-Learn state test scheduled for the week of April 22, 2019. I-Read involves both Language Arts and Math, so we will be practicing hard these next few weeks. Please be sure that your child is reading every night, even if only for 20 minutes. It is important for them to build fluency. Lastly, I know the weather is getting nicer, but it is still important for your child to be wearing a coat. Although the temperature may be warm outside, the winds can be chilly. We want to start heading outdoors with the students to take advantage of these beautiful days! Thank you.
