Ideas for Skills Network

Page 5: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q1 - The Skills Network currently meets quarterly is this too often/not often enough?

Too frequently – 0%

Frequency is fine - 100%

Not frequently enough – 0%

Comments:

• Themed meetings could be more frequent.

• This meets the time frame for updating on activities and is not too often for busy people

Q2 - The Skills Network uses venues across the Humber to allow partners to maximise their time, are

these venues appropriate to your needs?

Yes - 100%

No - 0%

Page 7: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q3 - The Skills Network uses venues across the Humber to allow partners to maximise their time, are these

venues appropriate to your needs.

Summary:

• No negative feedback, partners appear happy to travel to current venues.

Q3 - The Skills Network uses venues across the Humber to allow partners to maximise their time, are these

venues appropriate to your needs.

• The current practice of rotating venues is useful as it promotes sub-regional access to the network and highlights the different establishments / institutions across the Humber

• Happy to travel across north and south bank as this is the Humber LEP.

• As long as parking is available

• Yes all accessible

• Venues attended so far are very good. However, need to take into consideration acoustics or use of microphone.

Q4 - Does the current content and format provide the information you and your organisation require?

Yes - 100%

No - 0

Page 10: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q5 - Does the current content and format provide the information you and your organisation require?

Summary:

• A common theme - revamp the agenda’s, allow partners to suggest items?

• Mix up the agenda’s to keep partners interested, including: 1st session start with common LEP-related themes/news

2nd session into topic areas that participants can elect into,

e.g. apprenticeships, ESIF, skills capital fund, ASB growth plans, etc.

Consultation activities should be pertinent and timely

No employers attend and not many training providers. Just the same public sector faces.

Page 11: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q5 - Does the current content and format provide the information you and your organisation require?

• Yes. We joined mainly for information and to speak to like minded businesses via the Skills Pledge

• I think event content needs differentiating for what is a mixed audience. Perhaps start with common LEP-related themes/news and then break the 2nd session into topic areas that participants can elect into, e.g. apprenticeships, ESIF, skills capital fund, ASB growth plans, etc.

• Not always. Some agendas are old news. I would like to inform activity not just hear about it. No employers attend and not many training providers. Just the same public sector faces. The round table discussions at time are questions asked and answered many times over.

Page 12: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q5 - Does the current content and format provide the information you and your organisation require?

• Using direction from the ESB I think the network should agree a small number of key objectives that they can be responsible for contributing to and in some case help to increase coverage.

• The network should also shape thinking of the Skills implementation plan to ensure that it is fit for purpose.

• I would suggest that the consultation elements are mixed in between key news and updates to maintain interest and encourage people to stay for the whole meeting. Consultation activities should be pertinent and timed

• Yes - I am aware that now (……………)also sits on the LEP the ERYC schools profile is now on the "agenda.“

• Yes, although I'm not clear as to how the agenda is set or whether members can propose specific subjects.

Q6 - What would you like to see more of?

Summary:

Feedback covered areas around;

• More focused events & themed meetings;

• Details about new activities;

• Maximising links within the L.E.P & improved networking

• Funding opportunities.

• Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

• More links with smaller training companies.

• Collaborative approaches to ensure we maximise opportunities across the region.

Page 14: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q6 - What would you like to see more of?

• More skills pledge focused events for partner updates/opportunities/sharing best practice and where organisations can work together on skills pledge initiatives.

• Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

• More focused workshop / discussion opportunities on specific subjects (see above) and a greater emphasis on Skills Network participants contributing to initiatives that the LEP and others are involved in, e.g. Employment & Skills Group task and finish groups

• More detail about new activities.

• Written communication between meetings about activities happen. We have to piece the information together ourselves.

Page 15: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q6 - What would you like to see more of?

• I run a local partnership, I have direct link into all secondary schools at senior level and feedback to partners on the LEP activities.

• I could promote the agenda better if I was better informed.

• You could use the partners as a vehicle to engage others.

• Not sure the LEP maximises these links and resources already in place.

• Themed based meetings might be useful.

• Update on LEP activity but how the network can contribute.

• New policy and changes to delivery that need to be discussed and if required make a response.

Page 16: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q6 - What would you like to see more of?

• More IAG events located in the Bridlington area aimed at STEM careers.

• Would like to see more links with smaller training companies. Can be quite intimidating to new people as dominated by larger organisations.

• Networking

• Partnership funding opportunities

• Details about future ESIF calls - linking to ESIF

• Partnership 'pitch' session - opportunity for us to share what we do with the group.

Page 17: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q6 - What would you like to see more of?

• More interaction from the network not just turn up. • Ensuring that there are elements of interest for schools,

colleges, HE, private training providers, and employers of all sizes.

• Could there perhaps on occasion be themed meetings e.g. Digital media, health and not only engineering and energy.

• Information updates on funding opportunities or partner opportunities

• Collaborative approaches to ensure we maximise opportunities across the region.

Page 18: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q7 - What would you like to see less of?

Summary:

• Less emphasis on the LEP having to do everything

• 'Discussions' that don't seem to lead to any action! Discussions are great but activities of what we can do to change things and put things into practice would work better

Page 19: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q7 - What would you like to see less of?

• 'Discussions' that don't seem to lead to any action! Discussions are great but activities of what we can do to change things and put things into practice would work better.

• More continuity in membership, although there is an understanding that this can be difficult to achieve.

• Probably less focus agendas that have a series of presentations. Mix the format of events up - perhaps turn 1 meeting per year into a bigger annual event (aligned to Biz Week?)

• Projects that are about to end. Discussions about old subjects.

• Less emphasis on the LEP having to do everything

Page 20: Humber Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Network July ......work together on skills pledge initiatives. • Even more consultation with providers in developing the skills strategy

Q7 - What would you like to see less of?

• All is actually of interest. I think the programme for the event could be more mixed as noted above

• feedback activities that duplicate work already done with the LEP
