Dear NESDA Speech, Debate, and Acting Participants,

On behalf of the Events Office staff and tournament director Nicole Forbes-Wagner, we welcome you to American International School and the wonderful city of Vienna.  Speech, Debate, Acting celebrate the courage and the ‘voice’ of individuals and ensembles.  The relevance of these activities is hard to match as preparation for the skill sets and talents we know successful adults need in the lives we lead after high school.  Whether you are a student or a coach, we hope you find the tournament experience challenging and rewarding.  We hope you make new friends and find inspiration and encouragement from your fellow participants.  Over 100 students are expected to join in your weekend tournament, when AIS Vienna will be ‘Open for Dialogue’.

Special thanks is offered to Athletics, Activities & Events Director Harrison, Assistant Director DeForest, and Events Office staff Ms. Hackl and Ms. Bonek, as well as to the many AIS Vienna staff and families who are housing, judging, or otherwise assuring that this experience will hold a great place in your list of memorable CEESA events.

Sincerely,

Steve Razidlo, Director

We are very pleased to welcome you to the American International School Vienna for the

NESDA Speech, Debate and Acting tournament. Our advisors have worked very hard to bring you a tournament that is not only extremely well organized, but offers you the opportunity to experience the joys and stresses of competition in a safe and supportive environment.

This tournament is an excellent opportunity for you to not only learn the lessons that only come in competition, but develop the skills that ensure yours and all of our futures. The skills that allow you to analyze an idea, create an argument, present a perspective and ultimately move an audience to think and feel as you intend, is the ability to change the future. During our tournament you are not simply practicing presenting well, you are practicing changing how others think and behave, you are shaping our future.

We trust that you will not only find this tournament a memorable experience, but one that will shape the future.

Jarret Lambie, High School Principal

Welcome to the Fall 2015 NESDA High School Speech, Debate and Acting Tournament here at AIS Vienna! We are thrilled to host so many different schools and talented students in what is sure to be a positive learning experience for everyone involved.

As we open our doors for this tournament, we also hope that it opens doors for learning. Our theme this year is Open for Dialogue and we are looking forward to speaking, debating and performing with each other. Whether a motivated participant, attentive audience member, welcoming houser, generous volunteer judge or eager student helper, we hope you that you take this opportunity to engage in active listening and meaningful dialogue.

Please do not hesitate to use dialogue if there is anything we can do to help make this experience run smoothly. We thank you for your involvement and wish you a terrific tournament weekend. We are excited to hear your voices contribute to this fantastic friendly tournament.

\

Nicole Forbes Wagner, Tournament Director
