This watch is in excellent ORIGINAL condition inside and out, signed for Bulova four times – on the dial, winding crown, case and mechanism.
Its two-piece case measures 40mm lug tip to lug tip and 31.5mm in width (33.5mm with winding crown). In inches this works out to be just shy of 1-5/8” long by 1-1/4” wide, not counting the Bulova-signed crown. Its original and high quality self-winding mechanism has been fully serviced by my Bulova-trained watchmaker David and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. This is a 23 jewel, 6 adjustment movement…what you would expect to find powering a railroad grade, or chronometer grade watch…very impressive.
The 100% original black, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, a finely engraved “sunburst” guilloche design. It features applied white gold faceted hour markers, original silver steel Lance-style hands with original fill (no longer luminous) and original ‘sweep’ center seconds hand. Signed BULOVA 23 JEWELS below the 12. It is further signed SELFWINDING above the 6.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition and clear. The Bulova-signed two-piece case is all stainless steel and in excellent condition, complete with a scalloped bezel and fancy, sculpted lugs. The original Bulova-signed stainless winding crown is in

excellent order as well, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the screw down back lid is also stainless steel and in excellent shape, stamped with case number 6269369 and date code L7 for 1957. It is also very lightly stamped (lightly stamped at the factory) “Bulova – Stainless Steel – Shock Resistant – Antimagnetic – Self Winding – Waterproof.” This is hard to see today but , as noted, this stamp was lightly done and most models I get like this no longer show the detailing.
Inside I find a clean and fully serviced mechanism signed BULOVA U.S.A. – 23 JEWELS, 6 ADJUSTMENTS – USA, 10BPAC – HEAT, COLD ISOCHRONISM – 3 POSITIONS, L7. The inside case back is finely engine turned and signed STAINLESS STEEL - BULOVA WATCH CO., SWISS.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. I’ve added a new 16mm black deBeer handcrafted lizard (grain) calf leather band with matching steel buckle so you’re all set. All in all one of Bulova’s classic mid-century designs…as in style now as it was when it first sold 57 years ago.
<img 1src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/bully23j7.jpg>

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I’ve always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue. Like Gruen, it also had a factory in (Bienne) Switzerland, established in 1912 and dedicated to the production of watch components and their assembly into jeweled movements. The firm is known for its aggressive advertising campaigns and for being the first to advertise on radio – with an announcer stating “B – U – L – O – V – A … 8:00p.m., Bulova Watch Time.”
I am pleased to offer for sale the following Art Deco timepiece from the Bulova firm, the tricolor enamel “WELLSLEY” model from 1928. You could also call this one the “VASSAR” or the “MISS AMERICA” as all three names were allotted to this model in original Bulova advertisements. Regardless, it is one of my very favorite models from the firm and this one is a knockout.
Triple-signed for Bulova, this Aztec inspired watch measures 33mm lug tip to lug tip and 17.5mm in width (20mm with original domed winding crown). This works out to be 1-1/4 inches long by ¾ of an inch wide, including the crown and it is fitted on a new black 13mm calf leather strap that will accommodate a 5-1/2 to just under 7 inch wrist. This is one of the first lady’s Art Deco watches that utilized regular watch bands (with spring bars) instead of having solid wire lugs. My trusted watchmaker David (Bulova-trained at that) has fully serviced its original and high quality 15

jewel, manual wind 6AF caliber mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The original sterling silver (base), matte enamel ivory color dial is in mint condition – professionally restored to its correct status. It features painted (aged Radium look but safe) Arabic numbers, a crisp checkered 60 minute inner track border and black Spade-style hands. Signed BULOVA below the 12 and embossed SWISS at the dial base, below the bezel.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws. The hinged-back case is a 14 Karat White Gold Filled beauty, a tour-de-force of Art Deco floral engraving, in excellent PLUS condition. The highlight of this case is its bezel, featuring three colors of hardened enamel – RED, BLACK and GREEN. All enameling is excellent and original, not touched up. The 100% original and matching color domed winding crown is excellent too, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is gently curved to comfortably fit the wrist and is in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely no wear. It is tastefully monogrammed M.J.A. Looking inside I find a higher grade Tonneau-shaped Fifteen Jewel, manual wind movement – signed Bulova Watch Co., SWISS, [Caliber] 6AF – Fifteen 15 Jewels. There is a Crescent Moon date symbol on one of the plates, indicating a 1928 production date. The inside of the case lid is signed Pat. Jun. 10. 1924, Bulova - 14k Gold Filled – New York with case number 8013919 below.
This stunning Art Deco timepiece has been fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) just last week to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 13mm matte black calf leather strap with buckle that matches the color of the case.
So come on all you flappers (aspiring or otherwise), place a bid on a beautiful piece of history and one with true personality and character.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Of all the watches that I collect or sell, this is perhaps the only firm that needs little introduction, having built its business over the last century on high quality, innovation and style. The Rolex Watch Co. of Switzerlandwas founded in 1908 by Hans Wilsdorf of Germany and brother-in-law Alfred Davis, first setting up shop in London. The early firm of Wilsdorf & Davis dealt primarily with the watch manufacturer Hermann Aegler to supply its mechanisms, but by 1919 Wilsdorf had established Manufacture des Montres Rolex, a time when the mechanisms were crafted in Bienne and the watches were hand-finished in Geneva. On average, more than 200 technicians are involved in producing a single Rolex wristwatch, quite remarkable.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s timepiece from the firm, a stainless steel cased, manual winding Tudor model from the mid 1950s. This reference model 1819 is in excellent condition, a slim dress model and is quadruple-signed (dial, case, Rolex crown and movement).
It measures 40.5mm end to end and 34.5mm in width (36.5mm with original Rolex signed crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long lug tip to lug tip and 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the original winding crown. It is powered by its original 21 jewel, manual wind Tudor Geneva mechanism (a Rolex caliber 2402) that has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David just last week, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The antique white (ivory color) matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that has been professionally restored (re-enameled) to its correct status. It features raised silver hour markers, original silver steel

Lance-style hands and a ‘sweep’ original seconds hand. Signed TUDOR below the 12 marker with Tudor Rose trademark and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws. The three piece case is solid stainless steel and in excellent shape, perhaps a few small, light scratches but NO wear whatsoever and it has not been polished by me. It looks great in person. The original Rolex “crown” emblem winding crown is excellent as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is snap down in design and with reference number 1819 stamped at the edge. It has never been engraved and is in excellent shape, again, just a couple small, light scratches and it retains most of its satin/brushed finish that was applied at the factory. Peeking inside I find a fully signed Tudor Geneve 21 jewel movement signed TUDOR, 21 RUBIES, SWISS MADE. The caliber number 2402 is located below the balance wheel. The inside of the case lid is nicely engine turned and stamped TUDOR, GENEVA SWITZERLAND - 520,012.
This fine timepiece has been fully serviced just prior to auction (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new, aftermarket 18mm black deBeer Teju grain calf leather strap with matching steel buckle. Folks, this is a high quality vintage dress watch that will last a lifetime while also proving to be a great investment. These earlier Tudor models have yet to reach their full potential as investments but give it another few years and it will be a different story. More fun than investing in mutual funds and likely more profitable!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the “Long Meadows” (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the major players of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s 14kt Solid Yellow Gold Tonneau form model that dates to ca 1946. This vintage Swiss wristwatch is in excellent PLUS condition, its relatively heavy solid gold case complete with fancy lugs that make it stand out.
Triple-signed, it

measures 35mm lug tip to lug tip and 25mm in width (27mm with winding crown). This works out to be 1-3/8 inches long by an 1 inch in width, not counting the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, 10L caliber manual wind Longines mechanism that has been fully serviced by my valued watchmaker David just prior to auction. It winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – professionally restored and looking very nice. It features raised gold stylized numerals, 60 minute outer track, original gold metal Baton-style hands and a tonneau-shaped sub-seconds dial, shaped just like the case. Signed LONGINES below the 12.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent shape with no flaws. The case is a two-piece design that is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and it is in excellent - mint condition, curved on the sides and with raised (projecting) lugs that are unique. It is flawless. The winding crown, unmarked, is a matching gold finish and in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the 14k solid gold back lid is flawless as well, free of any wear or engravings, past or present. Looking inside I find a clean and fully serviced manual wind mechanism, signed Longines Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels [Grade] 10L, LXW with serial number 7,262,090. This serial number dates it to circa 1946 as per available Longines production records. The inside case is stamped LONGINES-WITTNAUER WATCH CO. INC. – NEW YORK, GENEVA, MONTREAL, 14K GOLD – L with case number below. The “L” stands for the case maker Arnold Lemieux.
This fine watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted with a new 18mm black deBeer hand finished Lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold color buckle. All in all an excellent, ready to wear post WWII vintage Tank timepiece from one of Switzerland’s very best…my photos do not do it justice.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. In its glory years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more urgent matters) prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following Gruen timepiece, a very original 14kt Solid Yellow Gold “Pan American” model

that dates to 1945, one of the first issued after WWII. This particular timepiece is the “CAPTAIN” model and it retailed for $119.50 plus federal tax when new or about $1,375 today.
There was a glamorous mystique to aviation and airplane travel in the 1940s, and Gruen ran several ads showing pictures of its Pan Am pilot's watch with the famous Pan American Clipper flying boat. Originally, these watches were supplied only to the airline and were not actually available for civilian use. The ads were run to create customer awareness of a model that Gruen had big plans for once WWII ended.
In October 1945 an advertisement stated that the Pan American line would go on sale to the public. The company believed that postwar consumers would make increasing use of 24-hour time, especially for airline travel. They also reasoned that, having just come through a major war, many people would have become accustomed to military time and could easily make the transition. Gruen published several articles in their dealer newsletters praising the advantages of dials indicating "the 24 hours of the air-world day," and advising retailers to stock up on Pan Americans to meet the anticipated demand.
The company offered the Pan American in a number of models and variations, in Guildite (steel), gold filled and solid gold cases, for both men and women, and with a variety of lug and case shapes. There were also two-tone versions and versions with square cases and dials. There were a variety of dials as well, but just like the original pilot's watches, they all share common features: a 24-hour dial with an inner 13-24 chapter ring and a red sweep seconds hand.
This triple-signed (fully signed for 1945) model measures 38.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 32.2mm in width (33.5mm with crown) or 1-1/2 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide, not counting the crown. It is powered by its original 420SS caliber, 17 jewel Gruen mechanism that has been fully servicedby my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, matte enamel finished dial is the original that has been professionally restored (refinished) to its correct status. It features a 60 second outer chapter that’s calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision, raised gold Arabic numerals and gold ‘dot’ hour indicators, a 24 Hour inner track with black enameled numerals, original gold metal hands (a design unique to Gruen) and original dark RED (maroon) ‘sweep’ center seconds hand. Signed GRUEN VERI-THIN below the 12 and “PRECISION” above the number 18.

It is further signed SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial but this is hard to see in my photos due to the curvature of the crystal.
The new old stock domed acrylic crystal is excellent, clear condition. The case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent PLUS shape, complete with ridged bezel and curving lugs…very nice and without flaw. The winding crown is yellow gold finished (unmarked) and excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is also in excellent PLUS condition, free of any wear and stamped GRUEN 14K GOLD at the edge. It is tastefully inscribed “To Louis with Love Caroline – 12-25-45” so most likely a Christmas present. This is the earliest Pan American I’ve had given they weren’t made available to the public until 10/1945 and Caroline may have purchased it then for Louis given it was a gift.
Peeking inside I find a clean Seventeen Jewel 420SS Caliber movement that is signed Gruen Watch Co., Seventeen 17 Jewels – Precision – Veri Thin – Patented – Switzerland, GXC – 420SS. The inside case lid is signed Cased and Timed by Gruen Watch Co. – Wadsworth, 14K GOLD – G647224 – 420/534 SS. Please note that the “420” is the caliber number, “534” is the dial model number and “SS” stands for sweep seconds.
This Pan Am “Captain“ watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new16mm black deBeer Paris hand crafted lizard grain calf leather strap with matching gold finished buckle. All in all an excellent condition, very collectible solid gold Pan Am for that collector who is just itching to add this rarer bird to his or her collection.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I’ve always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Timing Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue.
I am happy to offer for sale the following vintage Bulova timepiece, a ladies all original 14kt Solid White Gold Cocktail model with 10 Genuine Diamonds that dates to 1973. And it’s not just a beautiful watch for it is powered by a top of the line 23 Jewel, USA Made, manual wind mechanism…the best that Bulova offered at the time.
Quadruple-signed, its case measures 36mm flame lug tip to flame lug tip and 14mm in width (16mm with Bulova-signed crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-3/8” by 5/8” including the original winding

crown. With black cord bracelet it will fit a wrist up to 7-1/2 inches in size without any issue. If you need the length shorter (or even longer) I can custom size it for the winner, just let me know! Powering this watch is its original 23 jewel, USA made manual wind mechanism that has been fully serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver grey, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition and without flaw. You don’t often seen a grey silver dial as they were typically silver or ivory color. It features applied silver and black lacquered hour markers and original silver and black lacquer hands. Signed BULOVA below the 12 marker and 23 above the 6 marker.
The original solid glass crystal is in excellent order and without flaw. The two-piece case is a very Retro Modern design with concave, leaf style "Flame" lugs. It is in pristine condition. The entire case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold, the highlight being the Ten (10) Genuine Diamonds of good size that work out to be over 1/3 of a carat. The original winding crown is signed “B” for Bulova and in excellent condition, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent condition with no personal engravings, very nice. It is stamped 14K BULOVA – N3 with case number 107775. Peeking inside I find a clean Twenty Three Jewel, manual wind movement that is stamped Bulova - 23 Jewels, USA - [Caliber] 5AZ, N3. The inside of the case lid is finely engine turned and stamped 14K – L&W, M231. The “L&W” stands for the case maker Lutringer & Wittmer. The “M231” is the Longines mode number.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time. It is fitted on a new black cord bracelet strap that works perfectly with this watch and measures a total length of a bit over 7-1/2 inches - easily shortened (or lengthened) by me if needed. All in all an excellent and original vintage timepiece that is not only beautiful on the wrist but a solid investment over time. Thanks for taking a peek!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the Long Meadows (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the best of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.
I am very happy to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a ladies 14kt Solid White Gold evening cocktail watch that dates to ca 1950. This is the first time I have ever come across this model, complete with projecting sides that are set with genuine diamonds, almost like a “porthole” window. Continuing the nautical theme is the dial, complete with engraved wave design.
Triple-signed, it measures 27.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 15.5mm in

width (17.5mm with crown). This works out to be 1-1/8 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, not including the crown. It is fitted on a vintage new old stock black cord bracelet that measures a total length of 7-5/8 inches. If you need this shorter I can easily adjust it before sending to you. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, manual wind Longines mechanism that has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original ivory color, enamel finished dial is in pristine condition, guaranteed to be untouched since it left the Longines factory 63 years ago.
Features include applied white gold hour markers and numerals and original silver metal Lance-style hands. Note the textured “wave” dial. Signed LONGINES below the 12 marker and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The crystal is in excellent condition and clear (as new). The case is a two-piece design that is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and in excellent PLUS shape, complete with hinged V shaped lugs and Four (4) Genuine Diamonds set into the projecting corners of the bezel. I have never seen this Longines model before and I have to say it is one of the nicer Mid-Century designs I have seen. The white gold (finished) winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the 14k solid gold back lid is in excellent (like new) shape, stamped 14K at one edge. Inside is a fully serviced, manual wind mechanism, signed Longines Watch Co., Swiss, 17 Jewels [Grade] 4LL with serial number 7,916,283, dating it to ca 1950. The inside case is stamped LONGINES WITTNAUER WATCH CO. INC, NEW YORK, GENEVA, MONTREAL, K&L 14K - 905,023.
This fine watch has been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted with a new old stock black cord bracelet strap with matching white gold filled fittings that will fit a wrist up to 7-5/8 inches in size. If you need me to shorten (or lengthen) I can do this for no additional charge.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you have ever wanted an uniquely designed, original, midcentury Longines watch this is the one. One of the better known watch firms in the world today, the Movado Watch Co. of Switzerland took its name from the Esperanto word that translates as “Always in Motion.” Founded by Achille Ditesheim in 1881, he soon set up the first factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and the “Movado” name first appeared in 1906.
One of the first watch firm to produce a wristwatch for men, its most famous early design was the Polyplan, followed by military timepieces and triple date watches. Prices continue to rise for the early pieces, thus making them a good

investment.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from Movado, an extra nice WWII era military dial or “Sport” model that dates to 1940s. This stainless steel example features a case with interior dust cover designed and manufactured by Francois Borgel, a premier watch case maker of Switzerland.
Triple-signed, its stainless steel case measures 37mm lug tip to lug tip and 30mm in width (32mm with steel crown). This works out to be 1-1/2 inches long by 1-3/16 inches wide (without the crown), a fairly common military watch size back then, with Mido, Rolex and Omega all producing in this size. Today, you could best describe it as a“3/4 Size” men’s watch. It is powered by its original 15 jewel “Movado Factories” signed mechanism that’s been fully serviced by my watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status in the recent past. It features a 60 minute outer track that is calibrated to 1/5 of a Second, luminous green Arabic numbers, original hands with luminous fill and an original ‘sweep’ center seconds hand (original) with RED arrow tip. Signed MOVADO below the 12.
The new old stock domed acrylic crystal is excellent condition. The all-stainless case is in excellent shape, perhaps a couple scratches, but not polished by me and looking very nice. It features a stepped bezel and nice faceted lugs. This case was designed and fabricated by Switzerland’s most regarded case maker – Francois Borgel (est. 1887) – a name that seasoned collectors are familiar with given he was the first to attempt to make a water and dust resistant, hermetic case. It is stamped #4924 between the bottom lugs. The stainless winding crown is in excellent order, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the stainless back lid is a 10 sided, screw-down design in excellent overall shape (just a few small scratches) with no personal engravings. It is stamped Movado Factories Switzerland.
Peeking inside I see that there is an Inner Dust Cover Lid, a high-quality detail found on only better quality military timepieces. Removing this I find a Fifteen Jewel movement that is signed Movado Factories, 15 Fifteen Jewels, Swiss Made - MXI. The caliber number 470 is stamped below the balance wheel. The inside case back is hallmarked with the Movado trademark (hand holding pocket watch), including FB Key- PATENT +

STAINLESS STEEL INAL –00474924, 14760. The “FB” stands for Francis Borgel and the KEY symbol is for Geneva. The last four digits of the case (4924) are also stamped between the lugs.
This cleaned, oiled & regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a vintage, possibly original stainless steel 16mm wide bracelet that is signed CROMWELL MFG. CORP., MADE IN USA, PATENT PENDING. It is a larger size for the era, able to fit a wrist up to 8 inches in size but adjusted smaller as well. All in all a clean, ready to wear timepiece from one of Switzerland’s best – thanks for taking the time to read my description!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I have always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. By 1922, the name Bulova would begin to appear on watch dials and the firm would be the first in the industry in the total standardization of parts.
I am happy to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from Bulova, a ladies finely engraved and inlaid black enameled 14kt White Gold filled model that dates to 1928. This is the “COLETTE” model and, when first sold, retailed for $37.50; in today’s prices this is equal to $470, given inflation.
Triple-signed (case, dial and mechanism), it measures 27mm end to end and 15mm in width (16.8mm with original engraved flower crown). In inches this works out to be 1-1/8” long by 5/8” wide and it is fitted on a 10mm matte finish black leather strap with matching color buckle that will fit a wrist 5-1/2 inches to 6-3/4 inches in size. It has been fully serviced prior to auction, winding and setting smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The two-tone ivory color (with silver engraved border) enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status. Features include a 60 minute outer track, black enamel painted numerals and original blued steel Spade-style hands. Note the finely engraved flower details at all four corners, very nice detail. Signed

BULOVA below the 12 and embossed “Swiss” at the base of the dial, below the bezel.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws (removed in some photos to avoid glare). The two-piece, hinged back case is 14 Karat White Gold filled and in excellent order as well, complete with finely engraved bezel and case sides. The highpoint of the bezel are the two black enameled triangular panels featuring silver flower designs in relief detail, all in excellent shape. The finely engraved, original crown is designed like a FLOWER and what detail, every petal is brought to life. It is in excellent shape and operates as it should.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid features an engraved border and is free or any wear or engravings, just a couple tiny pinprick marks. Peeking inside via the hinged back lid I note that the movement is protected by its own crystal and bezel, a very useful feature of many 1920s Bulova watches that protected it from dust and debris called the “Dust-Tite Protector” by the company. The movement is a clean Tonneau-shaped, Fifteen jewel manual wind model with a three-finger bridge exposing several Ruby jewels. It is signed Bulova Watch Co., [Caliber] 5AP - Fifteen 15 Jewels - Swiss with serial number. There is a date code (SHIELD) symbol on the movement that tells me it was produced in 1929. The inside of the case lid is stamped PAT. JUNE 10, 1924 – BULOVA 14K GOLD FILLED - NEW YORK with case number below.
This cleaned, oiled & regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new Hadley Roma 10mm black calf leather strap with matching color buckle. It has been a couple years since I last had a “Collette” Bulova for sale but I’ve always loved the inlaid enamel models – even less common than the sapphire or emerald jewel examples.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. In its glory years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler Co. movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and

the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more pressing concerns) prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s Curvex timepiece from the Gruen firm, a "COLEBROOK" model from ca 1951, also known as the “Citadel” model in some advertisements. Actually, I was unaware of the Colebrook name until I came across this watch with its original tags and Curvex booklet. One tag has the case number stamped on it (J04315) and the price tag is signed Gruen Curvex – Colebrook 17j. Precision, $71.50 Fed. Tax Inc. In today’s dollars that would have been $675, accounting for inflation.
This swooping lug timepiece is in excellent original condition and features the 370 caliber Curvex mechanism, the last of four full size Curvex calibers made. Its 10kt Yellow Gold filled case is 39mm end to end and 24mm in width at its widest, or just over 1-1/2 inches long by 1 inch in width including the crown. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original Curvex Precision mechanism to ensure that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, just a touch of age and guaranteed untouched since it left the factory. It features a 60 minute outer track border, raised gold hour markers and gold numerals, original gold metal Leaf style hands and a sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and “sweep” gold seconds hand. Signed GRUEN CURVEX below the 12 and PRECISION above the seconds dial. It is further signed SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial.
The curved acrylic crystal is in excellent condition with no scratches. The 10kt Yellow Gold Filled case is in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely ZERO wear and even nicer than my photos show. Please note the curved profile and “swooping” lugs on this model – what the Citadel (Colebrook) is known for. The unmarked and possibly later replacement winding crown is a matching yellow gold and in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is stamped GRUEN 10K GOLD FILLED and in excellent shape with no wear or engravings. At one end it is stamped “Gruen 10K Gold Filled” and on the other side it is stamped with case number J04315. This is the same number that is stamped on the original case number tag, as shown.
Peeking

inside I find a 370 Caliber Curvex mechanism that is signed GRUEN WATCH CO., PRECISION – CURVEX PAT – SWITZERLAND - SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, GXC – [cal.] 370. The inside of the case is signed Cased & Timed in USA by Gruen Watch Co. - 10K. Gold Filled, 370 607. Please note the 370 Curvex caliber number also stamped on the case, while 607 is the crystal series number.
This ready to wear Citadel Curvex has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new and high quality 18mm black deBeer handcrafted lizard grain band with matching color buckle, ready to strap on and show off. Don’t forget the tags and original Gruen Curvex brochure, all in great shape. So then, any takers on this Gruen classic? You have to have at least ONE Curvex in your collection and this is a superior example on the originality, condition and aesthetic fronts!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, having first chosen the name Columbian Watch Company but this name was already copyrighted by the Waterbury Watch Co. The name Hamilton was derived from Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the growth of Lancaster.
By 1908 Hamilton was producing a ladies pendant watch and during the WWI period a small line of military style watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following BROCK model from the Hamilton firm, a 14kt Solid Yellow Gold 19 jewel “Medallion” timepiece that dates to ca 1950. This watch is in excellent PLUS condition and has never been personal engraved, somewhat rare for a solid gold Hamilton.
The Brock was one of only a few Hamilton models made in 14K solid gold that also had a lower karat (10k solid gold) brother called the Brockton, otherwise identical Tank form models.
Quadruple-signed, its solid 14k gold case measures 38mm end to end and 21mm in width (23mm with original Hamilton signed crown). This works out to be 1-1/2 inches in length by 7/8” wide, including the Hamilton signed winding crown. It is powered by its original and top-of-the-line 19 jewel, USA made 982 grade “Medallion” stamped, manual wind Hamilton mechanism that has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The black enamel, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original dial that has been refinished (re-enameled) prior to auction. It features applied 18kt Solid Yellow Gold numerals, original gold metal Lance-style hands, a 60 minute outer track border and a rectangular sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and

sweep gold seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.
The curved acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold rectangular form case is in excellent PLUS condition, absolutely flawless. The original gold-finished winding crown is complete with Hamilton trademark and in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent PLUS shape, free of any wear or engravings, past or present. It is stamped 14K GOLD at the edge.
Inside I find a clean and original manual wind mechanism, Hamilton’s finest for the era. It is signed Hamilton USA, 19 Jewels, [Grade] 982. The serial number is M155,260, indicating a 1950 production date as per the 982 caliber records. The inside of the case lid is stamped BROCK - HAMILTON W. CO., 14K GOLD, LANCASTER, PA S&W with case number S358,233. The S&W stands for Schwab & Wuischpard, a noted American watch case manufacturer that supplied Hamilton with many of its cases.
This watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted on a new 16mm black deBeer hand crafted Ostrich (grain) calf leather strap with gold finished buckle. An excellent mid-century Hamilton solid gold Tank that is ready to be worn and enjoyed while you enjoy a solid investment over time.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. The story of the Eterna Watch Co. of Grenchen, Switzerland reads as a long list of achievements in the world of horology…countless innovations have originated from its factory, and they are prized watches amongst those in the know, primarily collectors in Europe and Japan. The quality is remarkable, and one look at its movements tells the story, truly topnotch.
Founded on November 7, 1856 by Dr. Josef Gerard and Urs Schild, the first Eterna watch factory began producing pocket watch movements, quickly followed by complete timepieces. Schild took control of the company in 1866, and was noted as the inventor of the pocket “alarm” watch (which Schild patented in 1908) for use on the wrist.
Through the 1930s and onwards the company had a succession of technical innovations, teamed with its movement-making subsidiary ETA. This included the smallest serially-produced wristwatch, with a baguette movement, in 1930; an eight-day alarm in the early thirties; the first Eterna automatic (self-winding) wristwatch in 1938 - a men's model with a swinging winding-weight; an automatic wristwatch in 1942, considered remarkably small and thin for its time; and the futuristic winding-rotor on ball-bearings launched in 1948 for the Eterna-Matic self-winding wristwatches. Sorry if this introduction is a bit long but I wanted to emphasize that these watches were every bit as good as a comparable Omega or Longines model.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s Eterna timepiece – an original military dial model from ca

1951 – 1953 (Korean War era) set within stainless steel case in excellent condition. Folks, the patina on this dial is superb, my photos do not do its parchment paper look justice.
Triple-signed for Eterna, it measures 41.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 33mm in width (35.3mm with original crown). In inches this works out to be 1-5/8” long by just over 1-1/4” wide, not including the winding crown. It is powered by its original and higher-grade 15 jewel, manual wind (Eterna caliber 1274U) mechanism that has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds smoothly and runs accurately.
The 100% original enamel finished dial shows a darkened, even patina of age – just the type of dial that I love to personally collect on any watch I buy for myself. It has not been restored or touched up since it left the Eterna factory 60 years ago.
Features include a 60 minute outer chapter, Arabic numerals, original blue steel hands with fill and a slightly recessed, engine-turned seconds dial with ‘sweep’ original seconds hand. Signed ETERNA below the 12 and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent shape with no flaws, a new addition (original was also acrylic). The two-piece, Eterna-signed case is in excellent condition, solid stainless steel and looking as nice now as it did when new. The original, unmarked stainless winding crown is in excellent shape as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is stainless steel, screw down in design and in excellent shape with no personal engravings. It carries the case number 3,560,834. Inside is a clean and higher-grade 15 jewel, manual mechanism signed ETERNA - 3,647,675 with caliber number 1274U stamped below the balance wheel. As with Omega, Eterna case and movement numbers were not meant to match but based on serial number research for this caliber I would date it to ca 1951 - 1952. The lack of company letter code, lack of number of jewels and adjustments printed out (etc.) tells me that this is a European market Eterna and was not meant for export to the USA. The inside of the case lid is finely engine turned and stamped ETERNA WATCH CO., SWISS – ACIER INOXYDABLE, A. The French term for stainless steel is acier inoxydable.
This timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality

16mm black deBeer lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching steel buckle. All in all an elegant and higher-end Swiss Eterna that was harder than usual for me to part with – if you a fancy a great looking original dial and a scarcer Swiss market model this is your watch!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. So you say you want a really nice vintage American wristwatch? Well how about a 14k Solid Gold example from the finest of them all, HAMILTON, complete with a high grade Medallion series mechanism, and perfect dial.

Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, producing pocket watches mainly of railroad grade. By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant watch and by 1919 a small line of “wrist” watches were available, but for women only! Yes, Hamilton entered the men’s wristwatch market rather late, introducing their first non-military men’s watches in November 1922, a good 10 years after Illinois, Elgin and Waltham. Well, they quickly caught up with the other “big” American firms, producing some of the nicest Art Deco gent’s watches made…including this excellent GILBERT model from 1949, crafted of 14kt Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent condition inside and out. The Gilbert was one of the company’s more popular models and it was ONLY made in solid gold.
This triple-signed Hamilton measures 34.5mm end to end and 21mm in width (22.5mm with unmarked winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-3/8” long by 7/8” inch wide. It is powered by its original 19 Jewel "Medallion" stamped movement, made for solid gold Hamilton models only. It has been fully serviced by my talented watchmaker David prior to auction, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, Butler enamel finished dial is in MINT condition, the original that has been professionally restored to its correct status and looking very sharp. It features applied 18k Solid Gold numbers, gold metal Leag-style hands, a 60 minute outer track border and a seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and “sweep” gold seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.
The curved solid glass crystal is in mint condition. The case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent PLUS shape, looks like it was worn very little in the last 64 years. Take a look at the fancy lugs on this model – incised as to separate them from the body of the watch. The gold winding crown (unmarked) is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is also 14K gold and in excellent order. Like most solid gold Hamilton watches this was a presentation timepiece and it is inscribed for 20 years of service by Posey Iron Works on August 13, 1949.
Peeking inside I find a high grade, 982 Grade movement complete with Geneva striping signed Hamilton U.S.A., Grade 982 – 19 Jewels. Note the Hamilton Medallion

mark showing a “M” within a circle. This was introduced by Hamilton in 1940 for its solid gold watches only. The inside case lid is signed HAMILTON W. CO. – WADSWORTH - 14K GOLD with case number J050990.
This timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled, regulated to make sure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It is fitted with a new and high quality 18mm black lizard grain calf leather deBeer Paris strap with gold-finished buckle for a fine combination. All in all a pristine, all American made solid gold timepiece that is a treat to wear and a great investment to boot.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I have always had a soft spot for lesser known but nicely designed mid century, Retro Modern watches, especially the original and examples. Here is one such watch, a men’s late 1960s model in 14kt Solid Yellow Gold from the Germinal Voltaire Watch Company, a brand based in New York who had its watches made in Switzerland. Note the floating lugs and case sides, separate from the bezel of the watch itself. I have only seen this once before, on an Omega model from the same era.
Its square, Tank form case measures 30mm end to end and 26mm in width (including original crown). This works out to be 1-3/16 inches in total length by just over 1 inch in width, what is now described as a ¾ size men’s watch, or “Boy’s Size” watch. This size is ideal for the gentleman who prefers a smaller watch or for the woman who wants a larger vintage timepiece (as compared to most cocktail size ladies models). It is powered by its original 17 jewel, manual wind Swiss movement that was fully serviced prior to auction to ensure it and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original, silver enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, a few specks of age but guaranteed untouched since it left the factory almost half a century ago. Features include gold incised and enamel incised hour markers and original gold Baton-style hour markers. Signed Germinal Voltaire below the 12 and Swiss Made the base of the dial.
The solid glass crystal is in mint condition,. The two-piece case is a fancy, floating bezel, Florentine engraved example, crafted of 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent, original order. The original winding crown, a matching yellow gold finish, is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is free of any wear or engravings, past or present and retains the brushed satin finish that was applied at the factory. It is stamped 14K as shown, guaranteed to be solid 14k gold.
Inside I find a clean and fully serviced mechanism that is stamped Watch Import Corp, Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss, MBA. The inside case back is finely engine turned and stamped with case serial number #136,141.
This watch has been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a new 17mm black deBeer Paris lizard

grain hand crafted leatherr band with matching gold color buckle. If you have wanted to own an original 1960s Retro Modern excellent shape this is a very fine choice. Heck, this is a fantastic choice!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect.
