Features include raised gold numerals and hour markers, 60 minute outer track border, original gold metal Fuseaux-style hands (unique to Elgin) and a recessed, square seconds dial with ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. Signed LORD ELGIN below the 12 with “Star” below this.
The curved (from left to right) solid glass crystal is new old stock and in mint condition, especially designed for this watch. The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and nicely curved at the sides. It is in excellent PLUS shape. The original winding crown is gold finished, (correctly) unsigned and in great condition, operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent order, stamped 14K GOLD at one end. Peeking inside I find a high-grade Twenty One Jewel (15/0 Size) manual wind movement signed Elgin [Grade] 559 – USA, 21 Jewels with serial number Y238,715, dating this watch to ca 1943 as per company production records. The inside of the case back is stamped Cased and Timed by Elgin

The history of the Girard-Perregaux Watch Company begins in 1791, when the watchmakers Bautte and Mouline founded a factory in Geneva to manufacture watches. In 1856 the watchmaker constant Girard married Marie Perregaux and the unified firm of “Girard – Perregaux” came into being.
In 1906 Perregaux acquired the earlier firm of Bautte and Mouline, and today the firm is located in La Chaux-de-Fonds. They have always made a name for themselves in the realm of wristwatches through their unique creativity and high quality mechanisms, one of a select few who produce many of its movements entirely in-house. Today, Girard Perregaux watches are among the most expensive timepieces you can buy, making the vintage models a sound investment.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from Girard Perregaux, a ladies 14kt Solid Yellow Gold & Enameled vintage dress model that dates to the mid 1950s and is in great, original condition. This is what’s described as an “evening” or “cocktail” watch and it is quadruple-signed for Girard-Perregaux…on the dial, winding crown, case and mechanism. Did you note the cobalt blue inlaid enameling on the fancy lugs? Quite striking and rather unique.
Its case measures 29mm lug tip to lug tip and 13mm in width (15mm with original GP-signed winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/8 inches long by just over 1/2 an inch wide (without crown) and it is fitted on a gold finished bracelet that makes the overall size 6-1/2 inches. I am also including a classic black cord bracelet (new old stock) with gold color fittings if you prefer that look or have a larger wrist – I can easily adjust the cord length to any length before mailing. It is powered by its original and high grade, 17 jewel gold finished manual wind Girard-Perregaux mechanism that has

been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David to ensure it is running well and keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel dial is in great condition, just a touch of age. It features raised gold numbers and hour markers and original gold, Lance-style hands. Signed Girard Perregaux below the 12.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent shape, complete with cobalt blue inlaid enamel fancy lugs. The matching yellow gold finished winding crown is marked GP for Girard-Perregaux and in excellent condition, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent order, retaining its original brushed (satin) finish and free of any wear or engravings. It is stamped 14K GOLD at one edge. Inside I find a clean, manual wind yellow gold color mechanism that is signed Girard-Perregaux & Co., Swiss – 17 Seventeen Jewels - 53 AE 650 - GXM. The inside case lid is stamped with model number “B1803” and G/P for Girard-Perregaux below this. The name “Ross” is the case maker.
This watch has been cleaned, oiled & regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a vintage gold finished bracelet that will fit a wrist up to 6-1/2 inches in size and I am also including a black cord bracelet as well (new old stock). If you have a larger wrist I can make sure the cord bracelet will FIT your wrist – just tell me what size you need and I’ll have it done before mailing, no charge. All in all a uniquely designed, 14k solid gold and enamel vintage cocktail watch from one of Switzerland’s best watch companies…she’s a beauty!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to

Page 8: holben/Descriptions/February 4... · Web view My favorite among favorite U.S. watch firms is the Elgin National Watch Company,

the seasoned watch collector.
Omega strongly reaffirmed its position as a collector’s brand in 2007 when Antiquorum held its “Omegamania” theme sale in Geneva, Switzerland. The prices realized vastly exceeded pre-auction estimates and set new records for many older models. Yes folks, good vintage Omega watches are only going UP in value.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Omega timepiece, an automatic wind SEAMASTER model from ca 1958. This nicely restored example features a crisp stainless steel case and a very fine 501 caliber, 20 jewel self-winding rotor mechanism.
Triple-signed, it measures 42mm lug tip to lug tip and 34.5mm in width (36.8mm with winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-5/8 inches long by just shy of 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the unmarked steel crown. As noted, it is powered by a high quality Omega 501 caliber, twenty jewel self-winding mechanism, fully serviced by my watchmaker David just last week to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. The silver, enamel finished dial has been professionally restored and is in excellent condition. Features include a 60 second inner chapter, applied silver hour markers and numerals, original silver metal Dauphine-style hands with luminous green fill and a ‘sweep’ original silver metal center seconds hand. Signed OMEGA AUTOMATIC with applied white gold Omega symbol below the 12 and Seamaster above the 6. It is further signed SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic armored crystal is in excellent, clear condition with no flaws. The three-piece case is solid stainless steel and is in excellent shape with no wear. The steel winding crown, a later replacement that is unmarked, is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the vacuum seal, snap down lid is signed SEAMASTER along one side and WATERPROOFalong the opposite side. Inside I find a rose gold finished mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss – Twenty 20 Jewels - [Caliber] 501, OXG. The serial number of #16,085,687 dates the watch to ca 1958 as per available Omega production records. The inside of the case is signed DICHTUNG IM BODEN EINSETZEN - LOGER JOINT DANS FOND - ACIER INOXYDABLE - OMEGA WATCH CO. - FAB. SUISSE - SWISS MADE - PATENT + 315164 2846 9 SC, 2848 - FIT WASHER IN BACK –PONGA JUNTA EN EL FONDO. I don’t think any other watch company put more words on the inside of a lid than this. And yes, the case back

also has a rubber washer fitted inside the back, as noted.
This watch has been fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new and high quality 18mm black deBeer Paris lizard (grain) calf leather band with matching steel buckle. A consistent producer of higher-grade watches, the Mathey-Tissot Watch Co. of Switzerland is a well-known name in the vintage watch collecting world. While often confused with [Charles] Tissot watches (Omega’s sister company for many years), this firm was named for its founder Edmond Mathey-Tissot who established his factory in the town of Les Ponts-de-Martel in 1866.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s timepiece from Mathey Tissot – a 14kt solid white gold SLIM dress model that dates to the early 1960s (ca 1962 – 1965) and is in excellent original condition. What really stands out in person is the textured (woven) original black dial - my photos don’t do it justice.
Quadruple-signed, it measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 32.5mm in width (34.3mm with original MT-signed winding crown). In inches this is 1-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, not counting the signed crown. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original and high grade 17 jewel, manual wind mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original black, textured “weave pattern” dial is untouched since it left the factory and in pristine condition. It features an incised silver ‘dot’ 60 minute outer chapter, original silver steel faceted Dauphine-style hands and applied silver steel hour markers. There is no sweep seconds hand or sub-seconds dial as this is a dress model, meant to be worn when you need to know the time but not to the exact second. Signed Mathey-Tissot below the 12 marker and SWISS at the base of the dial.
The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition and clear. The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and in excellent PLUS condition. The matching color winding crown, signed “MT” for Mathey Tissot, is excellent as well, winding

and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent condition, absolutely no wear or engravings. It is clearly stamped MT 14K as shown. Peeking inside I discover a higher-grade gold-finished mechanism with Geneva striping across the top plates. It is signed Mathey-Tissot - Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss - QZO. The inside of the case lid is stamped MATHEY-TISSOT – 95377.
This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. I have fitted a new and high quality 18mm black ostrich (grain) calf leather deBeer Paris band on the watch, complete with matching color buckle. All in all an excellent & original timepiece from one of Switzerland’s better firms, my photos don’t do its beautifully woven dial justice.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. Founded by Aaron Dennison and E. Howard, the highly regarded Waltham Watch Company of Waltham, Mass. is one of the grandfathers of U.S. horology, in business from 1850 to 1959 making high quality pocket watches, clocks and wristwatches known the world over. The company adopted the American Waltham name in 1859, having already used such names as Warren, Tracy, Appleton and Boston.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies model from the firm, a very Art Deco, inlaid black & white enamel example that dates to 1928. This wire lug timepiece is crafted of 14kt Solid White Gold and is in excellent condition, complete with Waltham display case, as shown.
Triple-signed for Waltham, it measures30mm end to end and 18mm in width (20mm with winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-3/16” long by 11/16” wide, not including the crown.

. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original, manual wind Waltham mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The two-tone silver, enamel finished dial is in great condition

– even nicer than my photos convey. It features a fancy black enamel outer design work, 60 minute checkered outer track, raised gold numerals and original blue steel, Spade-style hands. Signed “Waltham” below the 12.
The new old stock, solid glass crystal is in mint condition, removed in some photos to avoid glare. The two-piece, cut corner case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and in excellent condition, complete with fine engraving along the sides. The original white gold finished domed winding crown is in great to excellent shape – a couple of pin prick marks but very solid and clean. It is tastefully monogrammed “E.T.P.” as shown. Peeking inside I find a clean, cut corner shaped mechanism that is signed Waltham U.S.A., Nine Jewels – 28,579,030. The serial number dates this watch to 1934 as per company production records. The inside of the case is stamped WALTHAM - 14K with case number below.
This watch has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new 8mm wide matte black leather strap with matching color buckle that is especially made for solid (wire) lug watches such as this. All in all a beautiful dial, Art Deco watch from a maker you see much less of compared to Gruen, Hamilton, Bulova or Elgin – this is truly a beautiful, rare bird!

Founded by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York City, the Wittnauer Watch Company. became an official business in 1880, when the brand was “officially” introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory. In 1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the twentieth anniversary issue of the Jewelers’ Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold both “plain and complicated” watches, suggesting that it was a source for

chronographs and repeating watches.
By the 20th century they were firmly established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for producing the first waterproof watch called the “All Proof” in 1918. Long associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a US partnership the firm is now owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Wittnauer timepiece, a ladies 14kt Solid White Gold cocktail model set with two diamonds in excellent condition. Dating to ca 1950 and triple-signed, this watch comes complete with its original red and gold trimmed “Longines-Wittnauer” display box, in excellent shape and making for a complete package.
Its decorative lug, diamond set case measures 34mm lug tip to lug tip and 15mm in width (16.5mm with winding crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-3/8 inches long by 9/16 of an inch wide, not including the crown. With its original 10kt white gold filled mesh link bracelet (by JB USA), it will fit up to 6-5/8 inches in size. If you have a larger wrist I can always try and find a black cord bracelet and size it to what you need, just let me know by emailing me.
It is powered by its original 17 jewel, manual wind Wittnauer Swiss mechanism, fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, featuring engraved gold numerals and hour markers and silver steel Baton style hands. Signed WITTNAUER below the 12 marker and SWISS at the base.
The acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and in excellent order, complete with two diamonds, each set into the decorative lugs. The matching color winding crown, unmarked, is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back of the case is in excellent PLUS condition with absolutely no wear or engravings, stamped 14K as shown. Taking a look inside I find a clean, manual wind mechanism that is signed Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc., Swiss [Caliber] 5JH - Seventeen 17 Jewels, AXA. The inside of the case is stamped WITTNAUER – NEW YORK, GENEVA, MONTREAL – K&L, 14K with case number below.
This watch has been fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) to ensure it winds and sets

Founded by Ariste Calame in the City of Le Locle in 1882, the Zodiac Watch Co. of Switzerland has long been a sought-after watch amongst collectors, especially those who appreciate vintage sport and diving watches. The “Zodiac” name was used very early on but was not registered until 1908.
The firm exhibited at the Basle Watch Show in 1949 with the “Datagraphic”, a calendar watch with moon phases and the “Autographic”, a self-winding model with visible power reserve indicator that was the official watch of the Swiss Federal Railways. By the late 1950s the “Sea Wolf” divers watch and “Rotographic” rotor automatic models would be introduced.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s watch from the firm, a store display SEADRAGON divers model in excellent, all original shape. This watch comes complete with its unworn Zodiac-signed sport leather strap with matching brushed steel Zodiac-signed buckle. Again, this was old store stock – not brand new but very close to that.
Folks, I can’t think of another all Swiss made dive watch that gives you more “bang” for your buck – the fit and finish is excellent, the smallest dial details very crisp. Being rated to 100 meters (330 feet) also means you can get this one wet – in the ocean, in the pool, you name it.
Quadruple-signed for Zodiac, its solid stainless steel case measures 43mm lug tip to lug tip, 14.5mm thick and 39mm in width (43mm with Zodiac-signed crown). This is a good size, large enough to have presence on your wrist but not too large where it feels like the watch is wearing you! I have a smaller size men’s wrist and find this size is perfect, any larger would be too much.. It is powered by its original Zodiac precision Swiss quartz mechanism that keeps very accurate time.
The white enamel finished dial is in excellent

Page 22: holben/Descriptions/February 4... · Web view My favorite among favorite U.S. watch firms is the Elgin National Watch Company,

condition, featuring a blue 60 second outer chapter (calibrated to 1/5 of a second), luminous blue hour markers, a quick change date window at the 6 position, original blue steel luminous hands and blue steel center seconds hand. Signed ZODIAC 1882 below the company symbol and 100 METERS – 330 FEET above the date window. It is further signed SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The hardened mineral crystal is in excellent, clear shape. The unidirectional timing bezel ratchets over nice and snugly. The two-piece case is a solid stainless steel of good weight, brushed (satin) finish along the bezel corners and polished on the sides. The setting crown (used for date as well) features the Zodiac emblem and is excellent like the rest of the watch.
Turning the watch over you will see that the stainless, screw-down back lid is finely executed with an engraved “Sea Dragon” in the center – very topnotch and quite impressive. I can only imagine that Zodiac was inspired by the Omega Seamaster when coming up with this model name. The lid is signed “ZODIAC SEADRAGON – 100 METERS 330 FEET – SWISS MADE, 05013. As this watch has not been opened up I am not going to do so as this may compromise its waterproof qualities. Be assured, however, that there is a precision Swiss quartz mechanism inside that keeps spot-on, accurate time.
This timepiece comes with its original 20mm dark brown leather Sport strap signed Zodiac on the underside and on the matching stainless steel buckle. It does NOT come with any box or papers, just the watch as you see it. A finely executed, heavy duty watch that is perfect for work, travel, the ocean – where you want your wrist to look good but don’t want to spend a lot (for Swiss quality) in the process. You can’t go wrong.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, having first chosen the name “Columbian Watch Co.” but this name was already copyrighted by the Waterbury Co. The name Hamilton was derived from Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the growth of Lancaster.
By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant watch and during

Page 25: holben/Descriptions/February 4... · Web view My favorite among favorite U.S. watch firms is the Elgin National Watch Company,

the WWI period a small line of military style watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following Thin-o-matic model from the Hamilton firm, an automatic wind, 10kt Yellow Gold filled timepiece in excellent original condition that dates to 1969. This was a special order timepiece, made by Hamilton for Pennsylvania State University who played in the 1969 Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida on New Year’s Day (they defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 15-14 under the coaching of Joe Paterno). Unlike most custom order watches Hamilton did, the actual case is “custom” and not the dial. It reads PENN STATE – ORANGE BOWL 1969 in raised gold letters around the recessed bezel, complete with flanking “Nittany Lions” on either side, the team’s mascot. I have tried to find out more information on this watch but have had little success – I would imagine, however, that these were given only to those who were directly involved with the team, players, coaches, etc.
Now about the watch itself. It is unique as well for a self-winding watch, featuring a micro rotor mechanism invented by the Buren Watch Co. of Switzerland and even winning the Prix D’Honneur in 1964 at the Swiss National Watch Exposition. Hamilton prized this movement so much that it ended up buying Buren in 1966, just so they could control the use of it.
Triple-signed, it measures 38mm end to end and 37mm in width (39mm with winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-1/2” by just shy of 1-1/2” wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, Hamilton-signed micro rotor 629 grade mechanism that’s been fully serviced by my valued watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, finely brushed enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – untouched since it left the factory and without flaw. It features applied gold and black enamel hour markers, a 60 second outer track border, gold and black original hands, a semi-quickset date at the 3 position and ‘sweep’ gold center seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12 marker and Thin-o-matic above the 6. It is further signed - SWISS - at the base of the dial.
The gently domed original acrylic crystal is in excellent condition. The one-piece case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold filled and in excellent condition. Around the bezel are raised

gold letters that read “Penn State – Orange Bowl 1969” and two “Nittany” lions at the 3 and 9 positions. The gold finished domed winding crown, unmarked, is in excellent order as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent PLUS condition – stamped “Hamilton” at one edge and “10kt Gold Filled” at the opposite side. As this is a one-piece watch you need to remove the crystal and stem/crown to access the mechanism. As such, I had my watchmaker David take the photos before closing it up after service. The mechanism is stamped HAMILTON WATCH CO., SWISS – [GRADE] 629 – SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS. The inside of the case back is stamped HAMILTON W. CO, LANCASTER, PA .
This original Hamilton “Penn State” Orange Bowl Thinomatic has been cleaned, oiled and regulated so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted on a new and high quality 18mm black deBeer hand crafted ostrich (grain) calf leather strap with gold finished buckle. I can’t imagine they made more than a couple hundred of these, maybe even less. If you like nice vintage watches and are a fan of Penn State football I think this would be a must have – just guessing!

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies model from the firm, a very Art Deco, inlaid black & white enamel example that dates to 1928 and comes complete with its original hinged display box. This wire lug timepiece is crafted of 14kt Solid White Gold and is in excellent condition, complete with Waltham display case, as shown.
Triple-signed for Waltham, it measures30mm end to end and 18mm in width (20mm with winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-3/16” long by

11/16” wide, not including the crown. With attached band it will fit a wrist 5-1/4 to 6-3/4 inches. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original, 15 jewel manual wind Waltham mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – professionally restored to its correct status. It features a 60 minute checkered inner track, black enamel Arabic numerals and original blue steel, hands. Signed “Waltham” below the 12.
The solid glass crystal is in mint condition, removed in some photos to avoid glare (now securely set). The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and in excellent PLUS order, finely etched and engraved. The highlight of the case is its inlaid black and white enameling that flanks the dial, in excellent shape. The white gold finished winding crown is excellent as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that it is free of any wear or engravings, past or present – excellent to mint condition. Peeking inside I find a clean, cut corner shaped mechanism that is signed Waltham U.S.A., 15 Jewels – 26,837,916. The serial number dates this watch to 1928 as per company production records. The inside of the case is stamped WALTHAM – WADSWORTH QUALITY – 14 KARAT SOLID GOLD with case number below.
This watch has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new 10mm wide matte black leather strap with matching color buckle that has been especially fitted for this solid wire lug watch. This watch will be shipped in its original hinged display case, a maroon color, gold accented example signed Waltham inside and out and in great shape. All in all a beautiful Art Deco watch from a maker you see much less of compared to Gruen, Hamilton, Bulova or Elgin – this is truly a beautiful, rare bird!

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. My longtime favorite U.S. watch firm is the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific American enterprise established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Elgin, Illinois (the factory had a National Street address). It was a strategic

location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago, and the Elgin factory would become the focal point of the town.
Elgin would offer its first watch for sale in 1867, marking the beginning of fierce competition with its chief competitor, Waltham, which (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame. Bartlett and Currier would later join the Illinois Watch Co. of Springfield.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the firm, a seldom seen men’s 23 jewel Lord Elgin “Durabalance” Model 7519 that dates to ca 1959 and is in excellent condition. This flagship model (as Lord Elgin denotes) is 10kt Solid Yellow Gold and was made entirely in the USA. It features a mechanism that was one of Elgin’s last crowning achievements, the 23 jewel Grade 730, adjusted to Six (6) positions – what could be considered chronometer grade. What makes this movement special is its “free sprung” (dura) balance that dispensed with the conventional regulator pins found in most mechanical movements. The only other movement, Swiss or American, that comes close is Patek-Philippe’s “Gyromax” balance of the same period.
Triple-signed, it measures 39.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 32mm in width (33mm with original, unmarked winding crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-9/16 inches in length by 1-1/4 inches in width, not including the crown. My skilled watchmaker David has fully serviced its 23 jewel, 6 adjustment durabalance mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The ivory color, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that has been properly restored to its correct status. It features raised gold Arabic numerals, original gold metal baton-style hands and a recessed sub-seconds dial with ‘sweep’ gold metal seconds hand. Signed LORD ELGIN above the seconds dial (with durabalance logo) and 23 JEWELS at the base of the dial.
The gently domed acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition.. The two-piece case is 10 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent PLUS condition – complete with projecting lugs. Being a 10kt solid gold case makes this watch quite unusual as the vast majority were 14kt (if solid gold). The original gold finished winding crown, correctly unmarked, is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that the back of the case is in excellent shape, free of any personal engravings

or wear. It is stamped 10K GOLD at one edge with serial number on the opposite side. Peeking inside I find a clean, manual wind durabalance movement, signed ELGIN 23 JEWELS, [Grade] 730 – USA, 6 ADJ.. The inside of the case lid is signed Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co., Star Watch Case Co., 10 Karat Gold, [Model] 7519.
This watch has been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time. It is fitted on a new 17mm black deBeer hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold buckle. Overall I think this is a great example of mid-century design by one of America’s great watch companies – the durabalance mechanism was a real achievement and arguably the last before Elgin would cease to do business.

Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following ladies Omega timepiece, an elegant dress model in 14kt Solid Yellow Gold that dates to 1968 In excellent condition, it is quadruple-signed for Omega – on the dial, winding crown, case and mechanism.
Its Tank form case measures 29mm lug tip to lug tip and 23.5mm in width (25mm including the original Omega-signed winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/8 inches long by 1 inch wide, including the original Omega crown. It has been fully serviced by my trusted long-time watchmaker David and its

original 17 jewel, caliber 620 Omega mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The silver, enamel finished dial is in flawless condition – professionally restored to its correct, original status. Features include applied white gold and black enamel finished hour markers and black lacquer finish Baton-style hands. There is no sub-seconds dial or sweep seconds as this was meant to be a “dress” timepiece – where knowing the time is important but never the exact second. As with the best vintage dress watches this one is understated elegance personified – as in style today as it was 50 years ago. Signed OMEGA with applied gold trademark Omega symbol below the 12 and SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.
The original acrylic crystal is in excellent shape. The original Omega two-piece, Tank style case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent order. The matching yellow gold, Omega-signed winding crown is in excellent shape too, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the snap down back lid is in excellent order, stamped 14K GOLD at the edge. Inside I find a spotless rose gold finished mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss [Caliber] 620 – Seventeen 17 Jewels, OXG. The serial number is #26,742,445 – dating the watch to ca 1968 as per Omega production records. The inside of the case back is signed OMEGA WATCH CO., 14K GOLD [Model] D6621 with case number below.
This watch has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new, high quality 16mm black deBeer Europa hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching color finished buckle. All in all an extra nice, ready to wear mid-century “Retro Modern” Omega that is as elegant today as it was when it was first sold in 1968- I think the winner is going to be very pleased.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. There are nice vintage Curvex watches and then there are stunning vintage Curvex watches. This quad-signed Executive model from ca 1947 falls into the latter category, crafted of 14k Solid Rose Gold and with a rose gold finish diamond set dial. It simply doesn’t get any finer.
 In its glory

Page 39: holben/Descriptions/February 4... · Web view My favorite among favorite U.S. watch firms is the Elgin National Watch Company,

years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more urgent matters) prevented this.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the Gruen firm, an “Executive” model that dates to ca 1947. This has to be one of the more popular Curvex models and its 14kt Solid Rose Gold faceted case matched with a fancy diamond dial are probably two strong reasons why. This model retailed for $200 when new, or the equivalent of $1,900 in today’s dollars…a hefty sum!
Quadruple-signed for Gruen, it measures 35mm end to end and 22mm in width (23.5mm with original Gruen-signed crown), or 1-3/8 inches long by 7/8 of an inch wide, not counting the original crown. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 440 caliber Curvex mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The rose gold, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status and arguably nicer than my photos convey. It features a 60 minute outer track border, applied solid gold (faceted) hour markers and raised diamond settings at the 12, 3 and 9 positions, original silver metal sword-style hands and a separate seconds dial with “sweep” seconds hand. Signed GRUEN CURVEX below the 12 and PRECISION above the seconds dial. It is further signed SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition – removed in a few photos to better show the dial (it is now safely affixed to the watch). The 14 Karat Solid Rose Gold case is in excellent shape, complete with faceted bezel sides, as shown. The original rose gold-finished crown is signed “GRUEN” and in excellent shape.
Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent condition, marked GRUEN 14K on one edge and with a case number on the other side. Peeking inside I find a barrel-shaped, Curved movement,

signed Gruen Watch Co. - Seventeen 17 Jewels – Curvex Precision Pat.– Switzerland, GXC, [Caliber] 440. The inside of the case is signed Cased and Timed in USA by Gruen Watch Co., 14K Gold with the case maker initials WBO for William B. Ogush.
This handsome Curvex Tank watch has been cleaned, oiled & regulated so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a new 16mm black Hirsch leather strap with ROSE GOLD finished buckle, ready to be worn and enjoyed. Owning a vintage Gruen Curvex means you’re going to watch it goup in value while you enjoy owning and wearing it. Not a bad deal.

Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect.
One of the best-known watch firms in the world today, the Movado Watch Co. of Switzerland took its name from the Esperanto word that translates as “Always in Motion.” Founded by Achille Ditesheim in 1881, he soon set up the first factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and the “Movado” name first appeared in 1906.
One of the first (if not ‘the’ first) watch companies to produce a wristwatch for men, its most famous early design was the Polyplan, followed by military timepieces and triple date watches.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies timepiece from the firm, a 14kt Solid White Gold cocktail (dress) model that dates to the mid 1950s and is in excellent condition. I love the faceted crystal on this watch, adding an extra “sparkle.”
Triple-signed, it measures 25mm lug tip to lug tip and 15.5mm in width (17mm with winding crown). This works out to be 1 inch long by 5/8 of an inch wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original and higher-grade 17 jewel, manual wind Movado mechanism that has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The 100% original silver, matte enamel finish dial is in excellent condition – untouched since it left the factory. It features applied white gold hour markers and original silver steel Dauphine-style hands. Signed MOVADO below the 12 marker.
The original solid glass crystal is in excellent

order with no flaws, a fancy “faceted” example. The Movado-signed, two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and in excellent PLUS condition as well, snapping shut nice and tight. The white gold finished winding crown, unmarked, is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I see that back lid is in excellent order, free of any wear or engravings. It is stamped 14K GOLD at the edge with a “M” stamp for Movado. Taking a look inside I find a fully serviced mechanism that is signed Movado Factories, Swiss – 17 Seventeen Jewels, Adj. 2 Two Pos., MXL. The inside case back is signed with the firm’s original “hand holding a pocket watch” logo and USA MOVADO – 14K GOLD with reference numbers as well.
This timepiece has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a black cord vintage (old stock) strap with matching color fittings. This band is currently sized to fit a wrist up to 7-1/4 inches but if you need it shortened (or longer) just let me know and I’ll do it before mailing.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following antique men’s timepiece, a fancy porcelain dial example that dates to 1899. This is a transitional period watch, set within a 10kt Yellow Gold Filled wire lug case with hinged back lid by the Keystone Watch Case Company.
It measures 37mm wire lug tip to wire lug tip and 33mm in width (36.5mm with crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-1/2 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, not including the winding crown. Its beautifully damasked 0 size, 13 jewel mechanism has been fully serviced prior to auction so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.
The porcelain enamel dial is what collectors call a "fancy" example, and its little wonder given all the beautiful gold gilding present. This dial is white with a pink coloring in the center, offset by black

enamel numerals and minute track. With a loupe you can make out a couple small hairlines at the edge, near the 3 but this dial shows beautifully and is in great condition. This dial features a 60 minute checkered outer track border with hand painted gold flourishes, Arabic numerals, an inner circle of gold decoration, original Louis XIV gold filigree hands and a recessed sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and sweeping original gold Louis XIV filigree hand. Signed WALTHAM below the 12 and also signed A.W.W. CO. above the sub-seconds dial. The latter stands for American Waltham Watch Company – the official name of the firm.
The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The three-piece, hinged-back case is 10 Karat Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS condition, no wear or engravings, very crisp. The domed gold finished winding crown is excellent as well, with a secure stem sleeve and operating smoothly.
Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent order with absolutely no wear or engravings. Peeking inside via the secure hinged case I find a clean Thirteen Jewel mechanism, signed American Waltham Watch Co. -Safety Barrel - 15 Jewels. The "15 Jewels" is stamped below the balance wheel and the serial number of #9,060,337 dates this watch to 1899. The inside of the case lid is signed KEYSTONE WATCH CASE CO., J. Boss is for James Boss, the inventor of the gold filled case and onetime employee of Keystone.
This cleaned, oiled and regulated timepiece winds and sets very smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time. Comes complete with a new men’s length 14mm black oil leather strap with matching gold buckle especially designed with fold-down ends so it works with these antique, wire lug watches.
