    May 2012FROM THE PASTORS DESK

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friendsof the Hill United Presbyterian Church:

The Easter season is, in my estimation, a really, truly miraculous time in our life with God!

I dont think anything can quite match that Great-Getting-Up Day when Jesus was, is and ever-will-be victorious over death, sin, evil, and Satan byway of the resurrection.

In Lukes Gospel, in one of Jesus resurrectionappearances, He is walking and talking with thetwo men on the Emmaus road: So as they drewnear to the village to which they were going,Jesus appeared to be going further

The wonderful thing about Jesus is that He isalways going further, taking us with Him fartherinto the future fulfillment of the Kingdom of God.

At Hill Church, we are celebrating one-hundredyears of ministry and mission for and with ourLord Jesus Christ.

We cannot rest on our laurels! Why??? Becauseour Risen Lord and Savior is leading us fartherinto a present and future ministry so that manyother people may be reached with the life-transforming message of the Risen Lord Jesus.

Be with us as we go further, Living in HisPresence: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow!

    Yours for Going Farther,

    Pastor ClarkRev. Clark Sawyer

    THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE

The Ghana Task Force is againworking to raise scholarship fundsfor young women in Ghana. Todate, we have helped 21 youngwomen with scholarships. Thanks

to Ashley Holmes, we have a tree from which

3x5 cards are hung and which list our specific2011 scholarship awardees. The tree sits on atable in the overflow room.

We are asking you as an individual, or as afamily, to choose one of the cards which containa students name, church, and school. Werequest that first you would pray for thisstudent. Secondly, we would encourage you toprovide money for our scholarship fund for next

years awards. Be mindful that your funds wouldnot go directly to the student you have on yourcard, but to the general fund. The reason isthat it is not cost effective to send money for

just one student. We send the corpus to theBubiashie scholarship committee for theirselection of the students to be awarded. If youwere to send money individually, or if our TaskForce were to identify you as the benefactor, you would possibly be inundated with calls, e-

mails, and letters requesting additional help. Asit is, the Task Force gets these requests.

The Task Force is suggesting $300 for a fullyear scholarship or $150 for one semester. These suggestions are presented to help youaccumulate the funds by early August. (1) Dumpall of your extra coins in a jar each day. (2) Setaside a dollar or so each day, this representing acoffee, a soft drink, or some small item that you

could do without. (3) Hold a yard sale. (4)Encourage your children to participate.

In early August, take the amount of money thatyou have accumulated and write a check to theHill United Presbyterian Church with the memoline noting Ghana Scholarships.
