Stop work meeting

A stop work meeting has been called by the Teachers Federation for tomorrow (Thursday 8 December). The meeting will be held from 8:45am – 10:00am. Normal lessons will begin after 10:00am. There will be members of our staff attending the meeting. Normal lessons will not take place during this time, however, supervision will be provided for students attending the school. If children arrive at 10:00am, they will be marked present for the day. We thank you for your understanding.

Helper’s morning tea

Last Thursday 1 December our staff were able to recognise many of our volunteer helpers by hosting a special morning tea in the Chapman Room. School programs are greatly enhanced by volunteer help and all contributions are highly valued by staff and students. Thank you to Mrs Ward for her coordination of the morning tea.

Lorikeet Legend luncheon Last Thursday was certainly a busy day! In addition to our helper’s morning tea, the Chapman Room was used to host the Lorikeet Legend Luncheon. For the first time Mrs Barnfield coordinated the Little Sprouts team to use many of our school grown produce to host this special event. It was fantastic that the harvesting, hospitality and cooking skills learnt by the students throughout the year were able to be utilised to host this special event. Parent helpers and school SLSO, Mrs Talty, ably supported Mrs Barnfield. Congratulations to all Lorikeet Legend recipients for reaching the highest of our You Can Do It (YCDI) levels. This year has seen a significant number of students achieve Lorikeet Legend status and this is reflected in the school tone where it is evident that many students consistently display the five YCDI Foundation Values of Getting Along, Persistence, Resilience, Confidence and Organisation. Thank you Mrs Barnfield, Mrs Bianchi and the YCDI team

Reverse Santa Our students and their families are once again invited to donate a present for a child whose family is in a state of crisis during this Christmas period. As in recent years the presents will be gratefully accepted by Coast Shelter, a local organisation that provides accommodation and support for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Presents are to be unwrapped and left under the Christmas tree in the office.

Thank you for your support with this very worthwhile activity and to Miss Smith for organising the activity and an appropriate charity recipient. Student Leader elections Well done to the Year 5 candidates for student leader positions in 2017. The candidates will be presenting their speeches on Wednesday. Successful candidates will be announced at the upcoming Presentation Assembly on Monday 12 December. I look forward to soon congratulating the new student leaders. Presentation Assemblies The K-2 and 3-6 Presentation Assemblies will be conducted this coming Monday 12 December. The K-2 assembly will commence at 9:30am and is expected to conclude by 10:30am. The Years 3 to 6 assembly will commence at 12:00pm and conclude by 1:45pm. A special assembly to acknowledge kindergarten students’ first year of formal schooling will be held in the skillion area outside the school’s administration office on Thursday 8 December. It starts at 9:15am and is expected to conclude by 9:45am. This assembly will not be affected by the teacher stop work meeting. Thinkfest Last Friday 2 December many of our senior students participated in the Thinkfest competition hosted by Gosford Public School. We were also pleased to host senior students from Wyong PS. It was a fantastic opportunity for all students to meet like-minded students and display their creativity skills. Students worked in teams to solve a problem in the areas of science and engineering, English, history and mathematics through a skit. They also had to write a script, design, make a key prop, backdrop and create a short visual resource to depict their problem solving journey. Well done to all students, as they were excellent representatives of their respective schools. They demonstrated excellent teamwork and the ‘You Can Do It’ values. Thank you to Mrs Bradshaw and Miss Casamento for coordinating such a valuable program. Students leaving in 2017 The school executive is in the process of organising staffing models for 2017. It is important for parents and carers to inform our school office in writing or by phone (43 493600) should their child/ren not be continuing at Gosford PS in 2017. It is equally important for the school to be informed of new enrolments if it is known that new families with primary-aged students are moving into our school zone. Kindergarten 2017 Our office is currently taking enrolments from parents and carers who have a child who is due to commence at Gosford Public School in kindergarten from the beginning of 2017.

Medical Forms 2017 Students with diagnosed medical conditions will require their medical forms to be updated for 2017. Parents / caregivers need to complete the cover form as well as provide an in date medical plan from their doctor. If a child is required to be administered medication at school, then a ‘request for administering prescribed medication’ must also be completed. Please return to new classroom teachers by Week 2 Term 1.

Preparing for 2017 (Kindergarten-Year 5)

No Book Packs

Traditionally, Gosford Public School parents/carers have purchased book packs, from school, for their children. Next year, book packs will not be issued. Exercise books will be provided and some essential stationary for K-2. However, we are asking families to provide specific items relevant to the child's stage group. These items will be required on the first day back at school in 2017. A list of essentials will be placed inside report envelopes. This will give families the opportunity to purchase resources over the school holiday break.

Reports for K-Year 5 will be sent home on Thursday 15 December.

Uniform Shop News

Please note that the Uniform Shop will be open on the following days early 2017 before school resumes: Wednesday 25 January from 7:00am – 11:00am and 3:00pm – 6:00pm Friday 27 January from 3:30pm – 6:00pm There are 3 easy ways to order uniforms at Gosford Public School:

1. Use the Uniform Shop Box in the school office, place the order and payment in an envelope with name and sizes etc, and the order will be delivered to the students’ class.

2. Use our online ordering system MUNCH MONITOR and the order will be delivered to the student. 3. Visit the Uniform Shop on Thursday afternoon 2:15 – 3:30 pm cash or cheque only.

School hats are available from the school office all year round for $15.00

Library bags are available from the library all year round for $13.00

The UNIFORM SHOP is well stocked with all uniform items.

There is a good selection of SECONDHAND ITEMS for $2.00 and $5.00 available in the uniform shop, come in and grab a bargain.
