Last November a meeting took place in Lome, thecapital of Togo, headed by Fte maximal Dubai, which brought 35 people together in the Golden BeachHotel.

This event was carried out thanks to the collaboration of Fte maximals’s official distributor in West Afrika, ETS Sirene d’Afrique, and the collaborator Media Plus.

The items discussed in this Fte maximal’s meetingwere the multiswitches, the 310 series modula-tors and the reception of the IP television.

The African countries are an interesting potential mar-ket in the sector, since many of them are now just entering the phase of growing consumption. Besides we have to point out that television has always had an important place in the houses of Africa, since it is the first source of leisure of its population.

The audiovisual landscape is complex and we can find several Technologies: broadcastings from local ope-rators, both TDT and QAM via terrestrial or satellite broadcastings through operators like Canal Horizon.

Most of the installations are individual, although due to the expansion of the cities during the last years and with more and more frequent construction of buil-dings and hotels, the need for communal installations is rising.

Canal Digitaal choosesFte maximal as thepreferred manufacturerin the NetherlandsCanal Digitaal Netherlands has moved its services to MPEG4. The new compression standard requires new receiver modules capable of decoding the MPEG4 com-pressed signal that allows SD and HD transmissions.

This modification and adaptation for the future will enable users to enjoy HD video and other services, which until now, was not possible with the former standard MPEG2. This innovation will also require the adaptation of the hea-dend systems in which MPEG2 receiver modules were installed. For that purpose, Canal Digitaal has chosen the FTE MPEG4 HeadEnd Receiver with CI slot DVB 300 S HD as a solution to be offered in the installations where existing MPEG2 satellite receivers were installed.

So, since November the modules have been available from the Fte distributor Bombeeck Digital BV, located in Eindhoven.

The most typical configuration is used for delivering pre-mium services on Film1 and Sport 1 on Astra 3 (23,5ºE) and together with the twin Modulator MTW 310 and Power Amplifier AMP 310P it is possible to deliver the-se contents in existing installations. The twin modulator 310 is ready for the future telecontrol unit RCM310 that will allow the monitoring of input and output signals.

Bombeeck Digital BV is one of the most important companies in the SMATV business with origins going back to the 1960’s.

Later, they continued manufacturing terrestrial antennas. During the 90’s Bombeeck delivered the first digital re-ceivers into the market and step by step it became one of the market leaders in the Netherlands giving solutions for DTH, SMATV applications and offering professional equipment to the market while designing projects.

For this reason, the installers need a comprehensive training programme for the new scenario they are fa-cing. This is the objective for Fte maximal Dubai and ETS Sirene d’Afrique.

The feedback from the people who attended the trai-ning in Togo was really positive and it meant a boost for the presence of the trademark Fte maximal in the area.

By clicking in the link http://bit.ly/ih5wFc you will be able to watch the video about the news of the held of the event, broadcasted in the news in the National Television 2 in Togo (RTDS), it was broadcasted on prime time.

Fte maximal expands its range of professional hea-dends and launches three new models of modulators: TSF 310 CI, TSQ 310 CI and TFF 310 CI. These mo-dules allow the decryption of encoded channels DVB-S (QPSK), DVB-S2 (8-PSK) or DVB-T (COFDM) through Common Interface, so later they can be modulated to DVB-T (COFDM) or DVB-C (QAM) keeping all the fea-tures linked to contents.

These new models, as well as the rest of the modulators range, have an intelligent and independent monitoring system of the module itself, which is reachable through the programmer. This tool, designed by Fte Maximal, informs the installer about the running background of the device, since it registers the time and date when any event happens in an inner file. Thanks to this sys-tem, we are able to know how many power cuts there have been since the last checking, if there has been a marked decrease in the input FR level or, for example, if the list of coded channels has been changed, among many other events that can be recorded.

The mechanical as well as the electrical compati-bility with the rest of the products of this series has been kept, so we can make mixed installations whe-re we need to receive encoded and free satelli-te channels. For the modulation of the last mentio-

ned channels we use items TSF 310 or TSQ 310,which have been already in the market for a fewmonths.

These devices are perfect for any kind of installations in buildings, hospitals or hotels or even cable networks where we want to increase the channels offer. Thanks to them, we can receive and decode satellite digital channels to distribute in DVB-T or DVB-C with the tra-ditional coaxial networks.

The decryption of the channels is made in each module individually through a CI placed in the front panel. Once the channels are decoded, the contents we are inter-ested in are modulated in a TDT mux (4 or 5 channels maximum) in the case of a TSF 310 CI or in a QAM channel if we use a TSQ 310 CI.

Fte Maximal has paid special attention to those small details that make a product big. A clear example of that is the programming protocol, which allows the con-figuration in the devices in an easy and intuitive way, either when we make the configuration through PRO 201 programmer or, in case we have field strength me-ter that belongs to our trademark, through the MAP function which is in the mediaMAX MINI field strength meter (please, check Fte News July 2010).

Technical itemWiring history

At the beginning of the seventies, in last century of course, the ideas of a MIT student, using

the improvements in internet features shortly before described in Hawaii, pio-neered the way for the development of the communications technologies which have lasted up to the modern day.

In the beginning, the first computers with graphical capabilities and mouse and the first printers were connected to each other, sharing what at that time was an enormous amount of information i.e megabits per second. This kind of in-formation was named as Ethernet, and as physical support it required a coaxial cable of 50ohms, running at 2,94Mb/s in fragments of 1,6 km as maximum.

Later appeared a variety of switches, routers and the first generation of inter-net servers.

At the beginning of the eighties the first commercial systems reached the market. They transmitted at a rate of 10Mbps over a distance of 2km using coaxial cable.

In the middle of that decade the IEEE, Institute of Electrical and Electronic En-gineers, published the Ethernet stan-dard (802.3), which was almost identical to the original Ethernet. The differences were based upon small modifications in the format of the frame and in the physi-cal means supported in the physical la-yer. From this moment on, all the modifi-cations and improvements applied to the standard (23 up to today) are basically compatible with the original one, giving it its highly profitable scalability.

The principle of the running of the Ether-net comes from the independent ope-ration of the devices connected into the net without using a central control

device. All the devices share the physi-cal channel of frame transmission. The transmission order is set by the MAC.

As Computers became more and more powerful, so did their needs. For this reason the Ethernet communication standards have been increased from the 10Mbps in the beginning, to the first 100Mbps, to 1Gbps and, to the newest one, 10Gbps.

This way, the physical means of the Ethernet have evolved together with the demands of the protocol, developing it-self from the thick coaxial cable, going through the twisted pair and eventually the optical fibre.

It was very important to homogenize the physical means where the contents went through, so the “structured cable” was created. It was described for the first time in 1989 by the American as-sociations TIA and EIA, in a document that captured the conditions of the ge-neric cable. The first standard revision was published in 1991. In this way was created the basis on which to run any application avoiding particular systems.

The nature of the Communication and Information Technologies is, nowadays, extremely dynamic in every way. The growth of needs for availability, acces-

sibility and service offers through the Informatics and the telecommunications is unstoppable: IP Telephone, VoD, se-curity systems, remote control for any kind of devices, leisure time (social net-works, forums, general documentation, pictures galleries), enabling the siting of companies that share the same resour-ces to be in different places, and has created the outsourcing of informatics services (Cloud Computing, virtualiza-tion), amongst others.

The economic and social interest of this technology has reached all levels of so-ciety. So it is very easy to find infrastruc-tures for these applications in a lot of di-fferent places: From large corporations to public or business enterprises, even natural spaces, in fact everywhere.

Without doubt, the new technological features, which are focussed upon the efficiency of the informatics tools in bu-siness, Cloud Computing will guide the TIC and everything it implies beyond the limits we know today. Cloud Com-puting will make it possible for compa-nies to be able to contract hardware and software services from external sources, which will provide a much better securi-ty and availability compared to the tradi-tional local services.

Currently Fte maximal devotes its efforts to introduce a wide variety of passive elements and wire structured acces-sories in its catalogue. The installers will have a comprehensive product ran-ge, designed for the professional user and having the guarantee of Fte’s wide background in the field of telecommu-nications. Altogether, with an extensive knowledge of both the latest technology as well as of the ever changing needs of the market, Fte is able to offer the latest innovative product necessary for this market sector.

Installation of headends forthe reception of cable network

Recently, the installer company L. Cava has kindly offered us these images, which relate to the upgra-ding of the headend of a cable network installed in the beautiful Town Hall of Mequinenza, a town with a population of 2.800 people, belonging to the pro-vince of Zaragoza (Spain). This upgrade was done in December.

The requirements of this project were extensive; therefore it was necessary to use several models of the modular headend of FTE maximal.

Among them:

- TKF 310: 8 modules have been installed which provide the possibility of distributing in COFDM more than 32 satellite free channels.

- TSF 310 CI: Through these 4 modules, several encoded satellite channels are decoded and distri-buted in COFDM, among them all the contents of Chello Multicanal.

- TFF 310: It was necessary to install 7 modules in order to regenerate and reprocess all the MUX’s of DTT, since they were not being received with a good enough quality for its later transmission through a cable network

- MUX 310: It was used for the equalization of all the channels of the headend. As well as amplifying each channel uniformly, it provides an optimum signal level, so we can use later a power amplifier as AMP 310P.

This upgrading of the TV services, as well as other products distributed around the network, such as internet and fixed line telephony, allow the com-pany L. Cava to offer a complete service for the users in the town.
