Mrs Ford and Ms Rundle have been working with our student co-planners, who have been trained to work with teaching staff to give them very precise feedback on what works best for students of different interests and aptitudes in the classroom. They have worked with teachers to plan learning experiences and this has been as enriching for the teachers involved as it has been for the students. I was also lucky enough to attend the Model United Nations, led brilliantly by Caitlin Daniels and Izzy Godley, where students from all year groups represented Russia, Libya, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, France, Great Britain and Iraq, entered into a very well researched and meaningful debate about the legitimacy of the intervention of a country in another’s affairs. Our politicians could learn a great deal from the way in which the students involved gave such intelligent, thoughtful, respectful and incisive contributions, something that they had all worked on completely independently. Finally, it was a pleasure to spend a cold, but bright, afternoon watching Estelle Tracey, Brooke Frend, Sophie Goulder-Perks and Carys Wakefield play brilliantly for the Surrey U15 rugby team in their significant victory over Berkshire on Sunday. Safeguarding at Rosebery We work very hard to ensure that our students feel safe and that they know who they can talk to if they have any fears or concerns. You may also wish to share any safeguarding concerns with us. Clearly, in most cases, a student’s Head of Year will be the first point of contact, and you should be aware that all of these members of staff have been through extensive Safeguarding Lead training in order to be able to appropriately manage the vast majority of issues. However, you may wish to contact our dedicated Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) who have undergone further specialist training and who work with students on a range of issues. Each week we support students who, for example, are self- harming, have experienced domestic violence or drug and alcohol abuse at home, or who have placed themselves at risk through inappropriate contact with peers, or strangers on the internet. It is also these DSLs who will be contacted by Surrey Children’s Services’ Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) if there are any concerns about a child that have been referred to them from external agencies such as a hospital, doctor or counsellor. Equally, you may wish to access the MASH team at Surrey and they can be reached on 0300 470 9100. Please be assured any information shared with us is kept confidential. The DSL team are Miss Claire Ramsay (Assistant Headteacher Inclusion), Mrs Sallie Jenns, Mrs Lorna Anderson and myself. Christmas Fair tonight at 7pm Christmas arrives at Rosebery this evening. Many thanks to the PSA for their tireless work to organise such an important event – I look forward to seeing many of you here and thank you for your support. Have a lovely weekend Ros Allen @RoseberyHT

‘Cyclo-cross is a form of bicycle racing. Races typically take place

in the autumn and winter, and consist of many laps of a short

course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and

obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike

while navigating the obstruction and remount.’

Amber is currently second in the London League and has been

put forward to compete in the Regional and National CX races

organised by British Cycling at beginning of

Translation Competition

On Thursday 23 November five of our Sixth Form linguists took part in the European

Commission’s ‘Juvenes Translatores’ Competition along with over 3,000 students

from all across the EU. The aim of the competition is to reward the ‘best young translators’ in the European Union.

Our students needed to translate a complex text, using a foreign language of their choice, into English. In order to

succeed, they needed to have a good feel for the context, style and fine nuances of meaning. If you would like to see

a copy of the texts they translated, go to the following website: https://ec.europa.eu/info/education/skills-and-

qualifications/develop-your-skills/language-skills/juvenes-

translatores_en.

Rosebery students who took part are (left to right): Faye Rainger,

Sanjana Boodhoo, Anabel Hindmarsh, Oriana Lewis and

Samantha Perren.

The UK winner of the competition will win a trip to Brussels to attend

the award ceremony. We’ll keep our fingers crossed/haremos

changuitos/nous garderons les doigts croisés for our Rosebery

candidates!
