Prayer of Confession*

Let us confess our sins before God and one another.

Creator God, we confess that we do not always honor life as you have commanded us. Daily we hear the news of lives being snuffed out from one corner to another in our society. There seems to be no regard for the sanctity of life, or for honoring you. We confess there is an ease in which a person can destroy life that you have created, because the law says it is okay. But we are not courageous enough to resist or confront, and we have often remained silent in the face of such evil.

Forgive us we pray. Remind us each day of the sacredness of all life, and of your commandment to honor it. Help us to see you in each other, so we will truly treasure this precious gift you have given. Amen.

Hear the good news: God is merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abounding in love. God has endowed you with the gift of life, and has given you the capacity to honor every life. In the Name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God! Amen.

Prayer*

Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

Ministry of Music At the river Robert Lowry (1826-1899)

arr. Aaron CoplandShall we gather by the river, where bright angels’ feet have trod, with its crystal tide forever flowing by the throne of God. Yes, we’ll gather by the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river, gather with the saints by the river that flows by the throne of God. Soon we’ll reach the shining river, soon our pilgrimage will cease, soon our happy hearts will quiver with the melody of peace. Yes we’ll gather by the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river, Gather with the saints by the river, That flows by the throne of God.
