The Rear PerspectiveIs winter ever going to end!?!?Eric has been keeping busywith inside jobs and snowplowing. With the cold tem-peratures in January notmuch is going on outside ex-cept some ice fishing. But,spring will come. At the timeyou are reading this youshould have seen some signsof spring, especially if you at-tended the Cleveland boatshow. There are definitelysigns that the Best Club on theLake is preparing for springbehind the scenes; the boatlifts are in the shop and will be

ready for the summers use andJohn Henry Bolte is workingwith Eric on some mechanicalissues at the pool. It is suregreat that we have such tal-ented members.

Our largest project for theyear, the Glass House Re-placementis proceedingsmoothly. We are negotiatingwith a contractor on the scopeand pricing. Again we ask for

your patience as we finalize thedetails of the project. We stillhave a target to have this infor-mation out to our membersbefore one of our spring mem-bership meetings for your ap-

proval. Our negotiating teamis headed up by Dave Oberge-feld and includes John Lus-combe and myself. Dont hesi-tate to contact one of us, anyFlag or Board member if youhave any questions.

From time to time membersborrow items from the club.We are looking for severalmissing large cooking potsfrom the kitchen. If you haveborrowed these, please returnthem. We will have to turn thesecurity cameras on in thekitchen if we continue to looseitems. If you notice anything

else missing please notifyChuck. Speaking of thekitchen, some routine mainte-nance was performed on theexhaust hood as it was pres-sure washed. This is com-pleted every year as this is oneof those items that the healthdept. inspects.

As our pool Chairs, Cory andRenee Stine and Eric and

Diane Zeitzheim are preparingfor the spring. They are look-ing for Lifeguard and Atten-

dants staff. If your child orgrandchild is interested, youcan pick up an application foremployment at the bar. Thechairpersons would like thesereturned by the end of Marchso their team can be finalizedbefore the season begins.

Spring will be here before youknow it. Watch out for thatground hogs shadow. Ah, Inever believed in that anyway.I just watch for the grassesgreening and the warmer tem-peratures that lie ahead.

I welcome any comments orsuggestions in regards to thehouse and grounds. I can becontacted at my cell (419-261-8630) or email me at [email protected]. Justremember This is your Club,Use It and have fun. I willkeep saying this all year andmaybe by the end, you too, willreally believe it.

The social committee will befinalizing assignments fornext years calendaron February 9th. If you for-got to fill out choices for thesocial year (May 2014 - Apr2015) when you sent in yourdues then we have toguess and try to do our bestwith assignments. Sponsorsof new members may beassigned an additional com-mittee with the new memberin order to help them withtheir orientation to the club.

Assignments can vary fromyear to year due to chang-ing events, numbers re-quired, and allowing mem-bers to participate in differ-ent functions.

Please use your cars stick-ers as this helps us monitorclub usage. Some member-ship cards were sent outwithout car stickers. If youneed a car sticker you mayget one from our club secre-tary Dave Bringman or atthe bar.

This year is like days of old.Ice fishing villages aresprouting up on the lakeand the cold temperaturesare solidifying the ice. TheChristmas trees are set upmapping a path to Put-in-Bay. I was thinking of ourhockey games in the la-goon at PCYC in the pastwith the Lays, Bugbee,Dracka, Bergemans andothers that I can't remem-ber at this moment. Theywere not exactly high per-formance skating expedi-tions. Some of us hadhockey skates, some figureskates, and others just ten-nis shoes or boots (ourgoalies). We had sweatpants with newspapertaped on our legs for shinprotectors. Extra hats wereour helmets that protectedus from our many falls tothe hard cold ice. It was achallenge to stand, movethe hockey puck, and nottrip on the large cracks inthe ice. The best defensewas to hit the puck off tothe side of the smooth iceinto the snow and roughice. The first one who couldfind the puck had the ad-vantage because everyoneelse was looking for thepuck in the snow. If youreally got frustrated thenyou would hit the puck into

the water near the docksupports or edge of the la-goon. That happened quitea bit because many timeswe had to switch from losthockey pucks to stones orcans. We always concludedthe day with chocolate bitcookies and half frozen bot-tles of Coke. The personwho remembered to bring abottle opener was the hero.

I was looking for photos ofthe ice cover on Lake Erieand ended upat epa.govwebsite that hassome interesting facts aboutthe ice cover on Lake Erie.It effects all kinds of faucetsfrom heat and moisturetransfer, light for photosyn-thesis, evaporation, lakelevels, erosion, ice damage,to navigation issues. Checkit out.

My proof reader is on theslopes or maybe in the bar.I apologize for the mistakes.I have a need to cruise theslopes. The end. See you atthe Club!
