P.O. Box 127, Port Clinton, OH 419.734.2424 www.portclintonyachtclub.com Founded in 1906 June 2010 EVERYONE IN THE WATER It is that time of year when school is winding down and your thoughts turn to the summer activities. Eric and Nick have been working on the pool preparing it for the season. Cory and Renee Stine and their committee have hired attendants and guards to operate the facility and they have had a work session to get everything ready to go. Opening is Saturday, May 29th at noon. The club is looking good as fertilizer and weed killer have the grounds in topnotch shape. With all the recent rain, we have had some issue keeping up with mowing, but Eric and Nick will handle it. The north shore heads are operational and ready for those who utilize them. Watch for a new twist on one of the shower rooms this season. Many of our live aboard boaters have requested we enhance one or two of the showers. We currently have some volunteer help that is going to start renovations. It is just in the planning stages, but could happen this season. Anyone interested in helping should talk with Bill Garber or Len Heagney. New topsoil and grass seed has arrived along the north shore road. Our plan is to for the parking areas there to be nicer for those who spend their time recreating there. The new pedestal replacement proj- ect should begin this month in that area as well. Again, volunteers are needed to make it happen quickly. Some members and family have already stepped up to assist in this project. A new supply of dock boxes has arrived and can be purchased from the bar. Cost is $400.00 per. The ballroom ceiling project will begin the week of June 14th. We are attempting to have it completed by the end of June. This was an open time for rentals and we wanted to complete it before the July 4th week- end. If there is rain for the Fathers Day Brunch or the Pig Roast/Porch Party we will move inside but with the understanding that the project may not be completed. We all owe a debt of gratitude to PC Mike Nitz for heading up this project and to Dave Obergefell for his assistance in obtaining a quality product. Dennis Fligor and helpers are also remov- ing the existing ceiling and fixtures at no cost to the club. Many contribute to the good of the club. In April the tax day bar party committee, Hal and Diane Hawk and David and Michelle Bodie donat- ed all the food for the snacks. In May the Bergman brothers, Denny and Jim donated all the fish served at their snacks. The club benefits greatly from these donations and the proceeds allow us to provide more for the membership while maintaining the cost at present levels. The crowds continue to grow as we get deeper into the season. Come over and join in and enjoy the club and all it has to offer. Commodore Mike Towning ODE TO THE GARBAGE CAN It just seemed that we were talking about the beginning of spring, but with the completion of the Memorial Day Weekend and the be- ginning of June with the solstice on the 21st, talk has now changed to summer. Of course, with June comes the end of school, high school graduation and graduation parties, the end of basketball and hockey playoffs, and the official opening of the PCYC pool. As noted in last months Jibsheet, starting June 4 the pool will be open for the remainder of the season, subject to the weather. As a reminder, the pool hours will be noon – 8:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, noon – 9:00 p.m. on Fridays, 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Sundays. Please review the pool rules and let’s have a fun and safe pool season. Other activities beginning in June will be the Learn to Sail Pro- gram and the Junior Sail Race Season. Also, Tennis Chairperson Mike Hablitzel has not only worked hard to get the tennis court ready for the season, but he has been working on the shuffleboard court. Please contact Mike if you have questions or ideas for the season. With all the rain lately, Eric and his assistant Nick have been cut- ting the grass at least twice a week, and thanks to the flower commit- tee, the flowers have been planted and are in bloom. If not already started, Eric will be putting grass seed down along the North Shore berm area. The ballroom ceiling project is slated to begin this month and additional bar stools for the high tables have been acquired. Dock Chairperson Bolte noted that he had one twenty foot dock and one twenty-five foot dock available. That is no longer the case as the marina is now completely full. Recently, I have had a couple of individuals offer to help around the Club. If someone would like to donate a few hours, or a day or two, please contact either Eric or myself. We will be happy to find something for you to do. Enjoy the Club and the events that June offers. If you plan on attending the Porch Party Pig Roast, I have it on good advice that tequila and beer are not necessarily a good mix! Be safe and please drive slowly while on the grounds. Rear Commodore Todd Bickley Attention Members! Please contact Jim Widmer with your e-mail address at [email protected] AHOY Ahoy, Boating season is officially here as summer has arrived, well for us in education, and now the time to get outside and enjoy the weather has fully coincided with some of our schedules. I can’t wait to take classes on-line and sit by the boat and here Brevyn and Brycetyn’s wants and needs. Graduation parties are in full swing, the PCYC pool is filled with both water and kids having fun, and the club is looking wonderful. So many thanks to those who work around the club to give it that special look. Well it was an “Ice Breaker” to Put-in-Bay as the temperature hovered around 55 degrees and the rain was intermittent. Fog set in on Sunday morning and those with radar were thankful as the return trip was a little testy. We had 6 vessels, 18 members in attendance and no real stories to tell. Denny Snyder’s highlight was winning $180.00 playing Keno, which he gladly, I think, bought some rounds for the group. I must say thanks for that. The Roundhouse and Ed’s took their toll on some during Friday’s activities which made for a sluggish start to Saturday for some, myself included. Our June Cruise-out is to Scudders on the 18th, 19th, and 20th. Make sure your paperwork is in order as we cross the border. Also, please make sure to let Eric know if you are leaving for extended stays as we may need to use your dock for transient visitors.
