M.Sc. Hotel Management Master of Science in Hotel Management (M.Sc. HM) is full time two years post graduate program divided into four semesters. The hospitality industry consists of broad category of fields within the service industry that includes lodging, restaurants, event planning, theme parks, transporta�on, cruise line, and allied fields. A hospitality unit such as a restaurant, a hotel, or even an amusement park consists of mul�ple groups such as facility maintenance, direct opera�ons (servers, housekeepers, porters, kitchen workers, bartenders, etc.), management, marke�ng, and human resources. Tourism and Hospitality sector has created about 11 million jobs directly and indirectly and has the poten�al to create another 37 million jobs in the coming future.
The industry is divided into sectors according to the skill-sets required for the work involved. Sectors include accommoda�on, food and beverage, mee�ng and events, gaming, entertainment and recrea�on, tourism services, and visitor informa�on. There are roles for them in hotels, restaurants, retailing, transporta�on, travel agencies, tour companies, tourist a�rac�ons, leisure, recrea�on and sport, and cultural industries, reserva�on and counter staff, Sales and marke�ng staff, tour planners and tour guides. The op�on of self-employment is always there if one has the prerequisite experience, the business sense and a sound plan.
The scope of Hospitality and Tourism industry can be summarized into the following five spheres where the prospec�ve student can find his/her career.
Hotels, Motels and Resorts: The hotel industry being a service industry, serves the basic requirement of food and accommoda�on. One can choose from Opera�ons, Front office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverages, Accoun�ng, Engineering/ Maintenance, Sales, Public Rela�ons and Security, etc. as one of the many departments to work with.Airlines: One can opt between being the ground staff or in flight staff. Apart from working as Airhostess/ Stewards, you can look into the op�on of Traffic Assistance, Reserva�on and Counter Staff, etc.Tour operators: They are the ones who help to organize/conduct tours to the various tourist spots and manage the travelling as well as lodging and boarding of tourists.Travel Agents: Travel agents evaluate the requirements of tourists and businessmen and help them to make the best possible travel arrangements from the available op�ons. Many resorts and travel groups use travel agents to promote their tour packages to travelers.Transport: Apart from airlines, travelers require rail services, coach operators, car hire companies to go from one place to another - by air, road, railway, sea etc. All this is taken care by the ones handling transport.
