Max Aicher appoints Netbid and Hilco Industrial to sell Pilsen Steel (Ex Skoda Works) in Czech RepublicPILSEN STEEL (Formerly the SKODA WORKS) was one of the largest European Industrial Companies, founded in 1859 and in 2020 taken over by Max Aicher. The business activities of the PILSEN STEEL included production and sale of steel, ductile- and grey-iron castings, ingots and finish-machined forgings for various industries, in partic-ular power generation, shipbuilding and rolling mills. The scope of the company activities allowed for complete product making and processing “under one roof”, i.e. starting with steel making, casting and forging through to rough and finish machining according to the customer needs.

The products can be found in operation all over the world like the “London Eye” Ferris wheel on the bank of the Thames in London where PILSEN STEEL delivered the wheel shaft and other castings of total weight 200 t. PILSEN STEEL was also the world biggest producer of windmill shafts and one of the biggest suppliers of large crankshafts for 4-stroke diesel engines.

Steel production plant consists of several tech-nological operations including charge prepara-tion, melting, steel refining and casting. Steel making process took place in two electric arc furnaces with annual capacity of 150 thousands tons of steel and one ASEA – SKF refining. Molten material is either poured into cast iron moulds (INGOTS) or into sand moulds (CAST-INGS). A considerable proportion of the ingot production of carbon and low-alloy steel with the highest claims for quality of material is in-tended for the Forge Shop.

PILSEN STEEL produced high quality steel and ductile/grey iron castings according to custom-er specifications ranging from 1,5 t up to 180 t. Production portfolio is designed for various industries.

Foundry Shop

PILSEN STEEL was able to produce forgings shafts up to 95t. The precision technique of forging was further improved by installation of new forging manipulator in December 2004. Forging presses33 MN with 40 Ton Manipulator, 120 MN (spacing 6 000 mm)

Forge Shop

PILSEN STEEL installed more than 80 machine tools for various purposes and of various char-acteristics of the forged products ensuring each item is finished to the highest standard.Lathes, Vertical Lathes, Milling Machines, grinding, milling, boring, drilling and measuring of Crankshafts.

Melt Shop

Production Process:The raw materials for steel production include steel scrap, selected recyclable waste, various grades of pig iron and alloying additions. Crude steel is first smelted in an electric arc furnace and subsequently refined in the ASEA ladle (a duplex process).
