In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge

forms and conventions of real media products? • In our video we have decided instead of a

live performance we have decided to use a garage as the set of the performance, we think this develops many of the general conventions of music video’s because instead of using a live stage performance, we gave the illusion of performing live but in a garage, as if the band is practice. We got the idea from the video of my girl, as they use a very similar idea.

• We used a technique widely used in many music video’s of having close ups of instruments at the beginning as well as this we used close ups of the performers faces, mainly the singer. We used this to establish the members in the bands, to help familiarise the audience with the band. It also shows the audience which instruments are involved in the music video.

• We decided to use costumes stereo typically worn by fans of the genre at the time. These items include Clothes such as chequered shirts, boots, jeans and boots. We used this to enforce the believability of our music video.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

We believe that our ancillary texts complement our music video very well. The image on the right is an example of this, it is an image of the phone box's in Kingston which are used in our music video. This we feel enforces the homely and low budget effect of our music video. As well as this with the grey colours in the surroundings in the photo. It enforces the ideology held by the listeners of ska music, as they believed the government had ruined the city and towns, turning them into nothing, with the grey it enforces the empty nothingness.

We also decided that using the vivid reds in the background of the shot, it shows the contrast between society and the ideals of the youth at this time. As they strived to be different to the rest of society, to go against it.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

• Through our audience feed back we have learnt many things, such as some of the editing isn’t consistent as we thought it would be, such as at the start of the second verse, the lip syncing doesn’t work very well, and it makes the audience doubt the consistency of the rest of the video, thus causing a lack of effect conveyed by the video itself.

• We also found out that people perceived the surroundings to be inaccurate to their expectations, such as the settings for the chorus and for the opening of the video, of us in my friends garage, they didn’t think that a Ska band would generally be in a garage.

• As well as this we found out that the audience didn’t believe all the actors in the band, they believed that the singer would be a singer, it was also thought that she fitted the image that they hold of a ska singer, which helped us a group help develop further if needed to in this particular industry.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

• In the research stages we used, the internet to help us gather information of the genre of the music, as well as the ideologies held by the public who listened to the music. It also helped us gather information on why the bands wrote the songs, and what was going on in the country at the time. We also used DVD’s, which helped depict the youth of the time, which then helped us construct a realism in our video. We also had the advantage of having youtube.com, which helped us look at the music video’s of the genre, which helped us look at other ska music video’s to helped us design and develop the choices we made for our very own music video.

• In the planning stages we used, technologies such as blogging websites, which is a huge advantage as it means that we can communicate and edit, the blog from the comfort of our homes, this meant the we could let our creativity flow, helping us maximise our potential.

• In the evaluation stages we used modern media technologies such as I-movie on the computers, so that we could easily burn our video’s on to a QuickTime file, and then we used these to show our films to the class, and so then we could then see how other people in our class felt about our music video, so we could put it on our blogs to then help us improve our video’s for the next time we produce one.
