Analysing Preliminary Task:Criticism 1:

I did not have a enough shot variations, which really disengaged my audience as a result, as they were getting bored of looking at the same shot, for over 6 seconds.

Criticism 2:

The lack of a tripod during the filming process was a real concern once I had started filming, as my shots were continuously shaking. It was a very amateur mistake, and a valuable learning curve to take into my final As production process.

Analysing Preliminary Task:Criticism 3:

The repetitive fading to black meant that my continuity editing did not have the effect it should have, I didn’t take enough shots to successful make the continuity editing, so this was the action I had to take.

Criticism 4:

The music I incorporated into the film didn’t really fit as well as I first thought, and almost made the viewer a little more confused, as they were perhaps trying to link it to the story, as it was very distracting.

Analysing Preliminary Task:

After viewing my preliminary task on numerous occasions, and getting feedback from my teacher, and piers on the production, it was clear I had made a lot of mistakes. These mistakes however, would prove a valuable learning curve when I would begin filming on my main film opening. I would learn not to make the same mistakes again, and to always look at the shots, on your camera, to see if it needs to be re-filmed. One thing I was impressed with, when viewing my preliminary piece was the dramatic effect it had on the audience at the end of the short film. It worked just as I imagined it would, and gave me some motivation, as drama was my main concept in my main As production.

Analysing AS Film Opening: Improvement 1:

The editing style and variation of shots used in this production was my USP, and I had improved hugely on this aspect of filming, from my preliminary piece, it required re-filming 4 times, but the dedication paid off.Improvement 2:

The use of a tripod meant the audience was not distracted by the shaky shots, that appeared during my preliminary task. It made the production look a lot more professional, and was very easy to set up, and carry, as it had to be very portable.

Analysing AS Film Opening: Improvement 3:

My continuity editing was much improved, and really added to the intensity of the production, this was one of the most challenging aspects I encountered during the editing process.

Improvement 4:

The music really created an mystifying atmosphere, which was my primary goal when creating the soundtrack, it blended really well with the film, and got louder during the most tense moments of the film opening.

Analysing AS Film Opening:

After conducting this evaluation activity it is clear to see the great difference between the two productions. My opening shows a greater deal of editing, professionalism, musical skills, and camera techniques, then my previous preliminary piece. It has really improved my directing, and film making abilities, and is a valuable learning curve I will be able to take onto the A2 part of the course. With the experience behind me, I am confident I can produce an even better production than this film opening. I could not be happier with the feedback I have got, not only from teacher, but from my friends and family as well, it has really made me feel like I have accomplished something.
