    Internaonal Day

Next Tuesday 31st March, marks Internaonal Day in the

Elementary School at ISM. This is a day for our students to

celebrate who they are and where they come from. With over

eighty naonalies represented in the Elementary School

alone, it is a me for us to collecvely acknowledge and

celebrate this diversity. For many of our students it is also a

me to celebrate their own unique context and upbringing,

their mullingualism and mulple naonalies ‐ born in one

country, perhaps with parents of two naonalies and living

now in the Philippines. Equally, it is a me for us to

acknowledge our host country and honor those students who

were born here and are proud to be Filipino.

Our day starts with a short welcome gathering in the

Elementary Courtyard at 7:30 am, hosted by our Student

Council. This includes a short flag unfurling ceremony, whereeach of our naonalies in the Elementary School are

represented by their flags. Grade levels will then be

celebrang in various ways throughout the day. Please refer

to your class teacher for specific details.

Grades 3 and 4 will also be celebrang with music from around

the world, in their annual concerts hosted in the Fine Arts

Theater. The Grade 3 concert starts at 8:30 am and the Grade

    4 concert at 1:00 pm.

Students are invited to wear clothes that represent who they are and where they come from on this, our final day of the

    third quarter.

One element of our mission, states, ‘ Acknowledge and  celebrate our  di  ff erences and  encourage empathy, compassion,

understanding and  respect   for  human dignity .’ Whilst Internaonal Day represents a me to symbolically celebrate our

diversity, it is sll only one day in an enre year. Hopefully we see empathy, compassion, understanding and respect for

each other every single day in our classrooms and community, with our diversity bringing richness to our community but

    our commonalies uning us.

We look forward to welcoming you next Tuesday.Con nued  on  page 2

Canteen Food in the Elementary School

With many of our students in Grades 1 to 4 eang canteen food at lunch me, we are trying to support our providers in

ensuring that all who avail of this service receive a quality lunch, with a variety of healthy opons. Part of this

obviously involves them preparing enough food for those that have ordered meals, whilst aempng to minimize foodwastage, which is an increasingly global issue. On any given day, we have a number of students eang canteen food

which has not been pre‐ordered or paid for. This then places pressure on the quanty available, parcularly for those

students who are eang at the last sing (we have staggered lunch mes due to numbers). Your support would be

appreciated in making sure that canteen orders are pre‐ordered. Equally, please do have a discussion with your child,

if you are finding that their packed lunch taken to school is coming home uneaten and that they are choosing to eat

canteen food instead. Thank you for your support.
