From the ES Administrationrom the ES AdministrationDear Elementary School Parent s,
International Day
Thank you to all our students and wider community
who helped make International Day a success in the
Elementary School. This is a day
for us to celebrate our diversity
and, equally, to celebrate our
commonalities. We would like to
acknowledge t he Student Council
members who spoke so well to
such a large group of people, and
to Miss Nadia and the student s who
led the Phil ippine national
anthem. Of course, we also thank our f lag unfurlers
for representing the 75 different nations in the
Elementary School populat ion.
One of the wonderful things about being a part of
International School Manila is the exposure our
students have to different cultures, different
languages, and different perspectives. We all know
that being internationally-minded entails much more
than sharing our flags or dressing in our respective
national costumes. We might define an internationall y-
minded person as someone who is able tocommunicate successfully in a range of different
contexts and cultures. Intercultural awareness and
understanding (without necessarily subscribing to) the
points of view of others are among the most important
skills and dispositions that we can develop in our
students. It is our aim that t he knowledge our
students gain from each other will engender empathy
and care for others - powerful forces for building a
sustainable future in a world of mutual respect. Our
students have the opportunity to develop a global
perspective, which is a very special gift. OnInternational Day, we share and appreciate our
differences, remind ourselves what makes us all the
same, and celebrate learning together.
This year, our Preschool, Kindergart en and Grade 1
concerts were held in December, with today being
devoted to the Grades 2, 3 and 4 concerts. Our
students sang in different languages and danced to a
variety of music from many different places and eras.
Thanks go out to Ms. Marnie, Ms. Linel l, Ms. Irene and
Ms. Nadia for their work in preparing the dynamic and
inspiring Music concerts. We sincerely hope that ES
parents had the opportunity to
visit the fantastic ES Art
exhibition in the Fine Arts
Theatre lobby. The exhibition
brings to life what creativity
looks and feels like. Our students
have responded to quest ions such

Holidays
It has been a long stretch of learning for all our students and they are very much ready for a break from school
and the opportunity to spend some relaxing time with fr iends and family. One of our school wide student goals
is to live a self -directed and balanced life. The next week is a time for everyone to have some balance in
their l ives and enjoy the relat ionship aspects of their li ves and what li es beyond the four walls of a classroom.
We wish you a restful holiday and safe travels if you are going beyond Manila.
