In the summer edition of Luxury I mentioned that myself and my business partner MarkCuzner were lucky enough to have acquired Luxury, complimenting our growing portfolioof publications.
I’m pleased to tell you that our summer edition has had amazing feedback and theresponse has been really overwhelming as our glorious summer weather (which is hopefullyset to give us an Indian summer, despite the cooler night temperatures.
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons and signals the start of the National Jump Seasonat CheltenhamRacecourse. And in this issuemy team and I have worked very hard to bringyou some useful and thought-provoking articles to help you with your own home designaspirations. In this issue we feature Kitchen Gallery who have been designing and installingSieMaticfurniture since 1987. The team at kitchen Gallery understand the importance ofquality and craftsmanship. Customers have come to expect the very finest levels of serviceand aftercare and the very best in contemporary kitchen design. See pages 12-17.
We also chat to international interior designer Anna Dodonova's and how her design skillshave helped create a fabulous family apartment in a new build in Knightsbridge. Theproperty has breathtaking views of London and has over 300 squaremeters of space. Readmore see pages 38-42.
For all you keen golfers who are interested in the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles read ourarticle about a substantial new build property that overlooks the course with breathtakingviews of the countryside and its wildlife. If you are lucky enough to be in attendance keepan eye out for this stunning new property. See pages 62-67.
I’m also delighted to be featuring an Historic Mill House in Malmesbury this month whichis just on the edge of our Cotswold region. The Old Mill House has been a family house fora long time and was evenmentioned in the Doomsday Survey in 1085. It’s currently on themarket and would be a fabulous investment opportunity for the property tycoons out there!
Finally as we approach Autumn I really hope that you’ve enjoyed the summermonths andlike myself, are looking forward to the cold, crisp mornings with the mist shrouding theCotswold Hills together with all the exquisite changes that Mother Nature has to offer.
See you in December.

One of Wiltshire’s most iconic homes hasgone up for sale in the market town ofMalmesbury.
Old Mill House is instantly recognisable asone of the first sights of Malmesbury whenentering Malmesbury from the North and baseof the town’s hill. There it sits, riverside, instantly noticeable by its impressive iron gateand large windows.
Steeped in history Old Mill House is situatednext to the town’s Silk Mills, now converted intoflats but once the hub of the town’s wool andthen silk trade. This family home has been partof Malmesbury for a long time, with referenceto the watermill, where the house is situated onin the Doomsday survey in 1085, however thefirst detail is recorded in 1300 as a corn millknown as Schotesbure Mill.
Old Mill was once the ‘power house’ for thevarious industrial processes carried out on thesite and has undergone much change over theperiod to today. From a traditional verticalundershot wheel believed to be on the side of asingle building, the structure grew to fourseparate buildings, two each side of the currenthallway, with a vertical mill wheel betweenthem - themill race running through the centreof the buildings.
Once through the large iron gate, that greetsyou on arrival, you are then at the fabulous oakdoor with a lock and key taken fromBradenstoke Abbey. Either side of the door arecoach lamps while of you look up at theparapet of the property you will see a lead urn,
originally from a stately home inGloucestershire.
Many of the artifacts now part of Old MillHouse are the product of the sifting of antiquefurniture and effects brought to the buildingwhilst an antique business set up by one of thetown’s most famous characters of old - BillCouch. He owned a business called KeyfordGalleries and based it in the front of theproperty. He is responsible for various featuresin the house including the galleried hallwaybalcony. This is hand made with hand pressedlead crests that are originally from the luxuryliner - The Mauritania and the carved fireplacedrawing Room, which has been attributed toGrinling Gibbons.
The house, although period, lends itself tovarious decoration and the current owners loveof Chinese art seems a perfect match, with bothpictures adorning the thick walls and purposebuilt cabinets in the corners of rooms to showof various ornaments and treasures from theFar East.
Once inside the property you will suddenlyfeel the sudden sense of history. A grandreception hall with Karndean flooring and thegalleried landing give it a real sense ofgrandeur and character that continuesthroughout the house. The drawing roomfeatures the ‘Grinling Gibbons’ carved fireplacewhile the 24ft formal dining room has abookcase that also operates as a secret door tothe kitchen and breakfast room.
The property boasts a further three

reception rooms, a cloakroom and a boilerroom. On the first floor, the 24ft master suiteoccupies one side of this home with featurefireplace and decorative tiled surround, anensuite, separate cloakroom and a storage area.Across the landing, which possesses impressivefloor to ceiling cross lead paned windows thatthrow in an abundance of natural light, are afurther 4 bedrooms and family bathroom.
Externally, this substantial property enjoys awaterside terrace garden ideal for al frescoentertaining with steps widening down to theriver’s edge. Exclusive fishing rights can beenjoyed upon this gently flowing stretch of theRiver Avon which provides an abundance ofaquatic life, including fresh water trout and ifyou wish, cray fish.
Set around the reputed location of one of theUK’s first horizontal mill wheel is a generousparking area and double garage with storage.
It is here you can see the historic Silk Mills, built in 1793 by Francis Hill, a clothier fromBradford. A century later, the woollen industryin Malmesbury as a whole had closed down. In1852, after years of the site slipping in and outof use and various owners, it was bought by silkmanufacturers Thomas Bridget & Co. of Derby.Silk ribbons were very much in demand in theVictorian era and at its peak the factoryemployed around 400 people. The businessfailed in 1899, but was reopened and by 1900there were 150 workers. The mill was forced toclose yet again that year, but as before itreopened, this time in the early 1920’s by AvonSilk Mills Co. Ltd. Silk production continueduntil 1941 when it was closed down by theMinistry of Supply ceased and the employeesdiverted to more important war work, much ofit at Ekco just outside the town.
After the war in 1950 the Dryden familybought the mill; initially to dress and processrabbit skins. Myxamatosis put paid to that andin 1954 it became the antique showroom; animaginative change in their business plan. Theuse as Antique showrooms continuedWhen Billand Mavis Couch purchased the site from HughDryden in 1967. Princess Margaret was a
frequent visitor throughout the period andwould often ‘take refreshments’ with Bill andMavis in Old Mill House.
The current owners of Old Mill House havebeen in the property for over 30 years and havebrought up a family in the town. The house, while in their tenure has become famous fortheir Christmas tree, which was placed in thelarge first floor windows, visible from the frontof the house and when lit from the nearbybridge. This is a tradition that we hope will beupheld by the new owners.
Old Mill House is on the market for £695,000for more information please contact:

Door hardware specialist Oxford Ironmongery has expanded with the opening of a new shop selling timber doors in Marston.
The new outlet, called Oxford Doors & Security, will display beautiful internal and external timber doors in a realistic setting so that customers can see what their new door will look like in situ. The showroom is the only one of its kind in the area and builds on Oxford Ironmongery’s 33 years of experience in the door hardware market. As well as the aesthetics of the doors themselves, trained, experienced staff will be on hand to advise customers with their security, safety and accessibility requirements.
The showroom displays a full range of glazed, semi-glazed and unglazed doors in contemporary and traditional designs all in natural timber. The full range of stylish door furniture for which Oxford Ironmongery is well-known will also be on show and specialist security products can also be selected to keep homes safe and secure.
Julian Newman, Director of Oxford Ironmongery is convinced that customers will be pleasantly surprised by the doors on display at the new Oxford Doors & Security shop. “The timber door offering has really come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years and these doors are now manufactured to engineering standards. The old contraction and expansion issues are long gone; the modern timber door is made in a technically advanced factory where attention to detail is the absolute norm” he says.

The Woodburning Stove... perfected78 COTSWOLD LUXURY
Project1:Layout 1 08/09/2014 16:20 Page 78
Plan now for your warmest winter ever
We have been designing and manufacturing stoves that are 100% British made since 1987. Many consider them to
be the finest in the world.
They are a joy to use, with a wonderful view of the flames behind large double glassed doors and burn so
efficiently that frequent cleaning is unnecessary.
That’s why we call them Clearview.
We were the first UK company to have a multifuel stove certified for use in smokeless zones, and went on to build
an exceptional reputation, with customers often saying ‘Our Clearview stove is the best home purchase we
have ever made’!
Why don’t you come home to the benefits of a Clearview Stove...
