PROJECT TYPE: APPLICATION, WEB
PROJECT TITLE: Container Terminal Management System CTMS!
The aim of the project is to develop a Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) for a
large container port terminal having one of the biggest container handling facilities in the country.
The terminal occupies a strategic position and has formed strategic partnerships with major
shipping lines to provide customers in the country and around the region, with lins to more than
!"" ports around the world. The container yard at the terminal covers a total area of #" hectares
and handles both empty and laden containers with ample space reserved for transshipment
traffic.
To ensure operational efficiency, CTMS application needs to be developed with the modules as
described below$

The Containers modules will have ability to handle the following$
E.*ort Containers
The %oyage call (%essel arrival) has been registered by the container port terminal through the
system with reference by Shipping &gent. The e'port containers are booed by Shipping &gents
through CT*&+ system. Then the shipping agent will assign auler to handle the container to
the port. The customs clearance will be handled by forwarding agent appointed by shipping
agent. &fter customs documents clearance, the container will enter into the port by hauler. ow,
the container will be accepted by the port terminal and staced in an allocated -ard ocation
inside +CT -ard. n arrival of %essel, the container will be loaded into %essel and necessary bill
will be generated by the System.
Im*ort Containers
The %oyage call (%essel arrival) has been registered by the container terminal through the system
with reference by Shipping &gent. The container list, which is going to be imported, is registered

by the shipping agents through the system. n arrival of vessel, the containers are discharged
from the vessel and staced in allocated yard location.
Em*ty Containers
The empty containers also follow the same operation as e'port, import containers. &part from
that, the empty containers are staced in yard in a separate location as per the re/uest from
shipping or forwarding agent.
Ree-er Container /an"ling
&ll refrigerated containers (*eefer Containers) are stored in separate location inside the yard as it
re/uires necessary cooling before loading into the ship or delivered to the customer. The
customer may also re/uest the port terminal to load cargo into *eef Container stored in the yard.
The port will also do refrigeration before the cargo is paced.
In)Yar" O*eration mo"#leThe following activities are carried out as of the port terminal0s services inside yard location.
Pa0ing12n)Pa0ing
The forwarding agent may re/uest the port terminal to pac their cargo into the empty container,
which is staced inside the -ard. The port terminal will pac all the cargo into specified container
and convert this into e'port. The forwarding agent may re/uest the port terminal to unpac their
cargo, which is imported from the port voyage. The port will unpac all the cargo and may also
stac the empty container into the stac based on the re/uest.
In)Yar" Mo3ement
&ll the containers inside the yard are handled by private carriers. The necessary data to move thecontainer by the carrier are communicated through wire less system called *1T (*adio 1ata
Transfer). Container discharged from the %essel or loaded into the %essel is also communicated
through wire less system. &ll the carriers are e/uipped with %MT (%ehicle Mounted Terminal) to
handle the data. &ll discharge and loading operation are communicated through T (and
andled Terminal). The CTMS application will communicate with *1T system to receive and
send data based the %MT 2 T re/uest.
Yar" Planning
The location for stac import 2 e'port 2 import container are planned prior to container arrival. The
yard planning is handled in the CTMS system.
