CENA AND MUSIC WITH OPERA ON TAP OCTOBER 18 How do you acknowledge a 200th birthday? A wonderful dinner is a great start. Add to that some first-class entertainment, and you have a perfect evening. Giuseppe Verdi was born October 10, 1813, and recognizing his birth is cause for celebration! Plan to come to Cena on Friday, October 18 ~ and bring your friends and family because “the more the merrier” is always the rule at an Italian birthday party. Instead of the guests bringing the gifts, we’ll enjoy Verdi’s gift of music, thanks to the talented singers of Opera on Tap (OOT). From Rigoletto’s “La donna e’ mobile” to La Traviata’s “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici”, “Va, pensiero” from Nabucco to Aida’s “Grand March”, Verdi’s compositions are some of the most iconic in Italian opera. Enjoy his music with the interesting historical insights and moving renditions provided by OOT ~ and you can be sure that Chef Tommaso will craft a menu that is as special as the Italian artist we will celebrate. Fall into Fitness: Individualism at Its Healthy Best©

Potentially we are all runners, just for the reason that the muscles of our legs are the most powerful of our body. That’s a simple fact that for too many is without a consequence. In recent history, people have become more static and don’t walk enough because of dependency on motorized wheels for locomotion and on sedentary jobs for a living.

Not surprisingly, a few weeks ago the American Medical Association declared obesity a disease as to confirm that unhealthy habits are spreading in our society like a pervasive malaise. Obesity affects millions of people who indulge too much and don’t exercise. Today the word ‘running’ is more a euphemism used for describing: someone who is running a vehicle faster while running late, people running to the mall to spend money, politicians who run for the money, those who eventually run from their spouse and others who keep running into all sorts of trouble. If all of them were actually involved in the dynamics of running or fast walking, then America would also be the world leader in health and fitness!

Many people may think that running and walking are monotonous exercises and bar them out without knowing what giving up. They are giving up the chance of being healthier, less prone to sickness and to possibly live longer while enjoying a better quality of life. Others complain about being stressed out or depressed without taking the best and cheapest remedy available. Running and fast walking are very effective, no-cost stress relievers. They promote an immediate sense of well-being when performed with a convenient range of speed and intensity that increase cardiovascular, pulmonary and muscular capacity. These simple activities can make anyone fit and healthier by just being consistent while using a small amount of disposable time!

The reason for regular physical activity can be for pleasure or for spirit of competition, but it can also be that you want to free yourself from a growing dependence, be it your car, TV or computer, or that you want to renew yourself after long hours of work. Perhaps most importantly, you do it to celebrate the chance of being alive and well and want to remain that way for as long as possible in total reliance of yourself and of your own strength. You do it to increase your level of energy because energy is indispensable for living an independent life, and life is motion. Only when moving at an accelerated pace and going far with passion and strength without help other than your legs, heart and lungs, you are truly celebrating life with freedom of body and spirit in their purest form.

Of course you may have other preferences or none at all but, regardless of your age, my recommendation is to be physically active in any way you can and live determined to stay strong and healthy. There is an old say in Italian: “Aiutati che Dio ti aiuta e la vita ti sorridera’!” which translates as: “Help yourself that God helps you, then life will smile at you”! Follow the wisdom of regularly engaging in basic fitness and, no matter how long you live, you will live self-reliant and free, energized and well!
