Electricityexport is one of the countrys leading branches of theeconomy and is expected to increase by 27.4 billionkilowatt/hours by 2020.

    Mongolian lawmakers haveignored pressure from USlegislators, who are callingon them to rescind travel restrictions on an Americanbusinessman seeking to leave the country. Justin Kapla, theformer president of mining firm SouthGobi Sands, has notbeen allowed to leave Mongolia since October 2012, whenhe was identified as a witness in a high-level corruptioncase.

    this week because of a technical problem with the a gaspipeline. Pipeline management were forced to drasticallyreduce the gas flow, leaving thousands of residents ofShymkent in southern Kazakhstan without gas forcooking and heating. Authorities on Wednesday said thatthe pipe had been repaired and that they were resumingnormal operations.

    A controversy has eruptedin Montenegro regarding achurch fresco in Podgoricathat depicts ito, Marx, Engels, and others roasting in theflames of hell. Te painting was done in the newly builtChurch of Resurrection and has led to debates amongpriests and believers, many of whom feel that the paintingis inappropriate and that religion and politics shouldremain separate. Others feel the painting gives a fairrepresentation of crimes committed under communism.

    Ongoing student protestsdemanding the resignationof a university dean inPristina turned violent when police used tear gas andpepper spray to disperse the crowd on Friday. Betweenfive and thirty police officers and a dozen protesters wereinjured when students starting throwing rocks and paint atthe deans office. Students are protesting because professorsare accused of publishing work in fake online journals toreceive academic credentials.

    Over three days last week,Slovenia was hit by a seriesof severe blizzards, whichleft about 120,000 households without power and 1.2million acres of forest ravaged. Te southwestern part ofthe country was hit hardest, with railways, cars, gas stationsand AM machines icing over. Te Slovenian governmenthas requested material and technical assistance from itsneighbors under the EU civil protection mechanism.

    Albanias environmentalministry has announced atwo-year ban on all hunting

    in order to protect endangered fauna, including brownbears and eagles. Te ministry says it plans to use thetwo-year moratorium to establish stronger coordinationmechanisms with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whichissues hunting licenses, in order to facilitate legal andsustainable hunting once the ban elapses.

    Due to extreme winterweather more than 1,000people have been evacuated

    from cars, buses and trains by army, police, and emergencypersonnel in northern Serbia on Saturday. Snowfall andwind have created snowdrifts up to 3 meters high insome areas, causing the government to close roads andban boat travel on the Danube River.

    On Saturday Macedoniaannounced April 13 asthe date for the next

    presidential elections. Te current coalition governmentis led by the VMRO-DPMNE party, though theAlbanian Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) party,which represents the large ethnic Albanian population inMacedonia, has threatened to leave the coalition.
