~ Our Mission Statement ~The Spirit of the Lord is upon us, because the Lord has anointed us

to proclaim: Ecce Agnus Dei - Behold the Lamb of God;Behold the Good News of Jesus Christ.

THE YEAR OF FAITH OCTOBER 2012 - NOVEMBER 2013

"They called the Church together and reported what God haddone with them and how he had opened the door of faith..." (Acts 14:27).

In the Acts of the Apostles, we learn that God has opened thedoor of faith for the early Church. But did you know that God has

opened the door of faith for each one us and he invites us to stepthrough the threshold into a deeper relationship with him. The up-coming Year of Faith is an opportunity for every Catholic to turntowards Jesus Christ, encounter him in the Sacraments, especiallythe Eucharist and rediscover the Faith and Church.

With his Apostolic Letter of October 11, 2011,Porta Fidei(Door of Faith) , Pope Benedict XVI declared that a "Year ofFaith" which began on October 11, 2012 and will conclude on No-vember 24, 2013. October 11, 2012, the first day of the Year ofFaith, was the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second

    Vatican Council...(Vatican II)

the feast of Blessed John XXIII whoconceived and convened the Vatican II and also the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism ofthe Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on thedocuments of Vatican II and the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.

The upcoming Year of Faith is a summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to theLord, the One Savior of the world (Porta Fidei 6). In other words, the Year of Faith is an op-portunity for Catholics to experience a conversion to turn back to Jesus and enter into adeeper relationship with him. The Door of Faith is opened at ones baptism, but during thisyear Catholics are called to open it again, walk through it and rediscover and renew their rela-tionship with Christ and his Church.

AO DE LA FE OCTUBRE 2012 - NOVIEMBER 2013

"The 'door of faith' (Acts14:27) is always open for us, ushering us into the lifeof communion with God and offering entry into his Church."---Pope Benedict XVI, Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei for the Indiction of the Year of Faith.

What is the Year of Faith? At certain times in the history of the Church, popes have called upon the faithful to

dedicate themselves to deepening their understanding of a particular aspect of the faith. In 1967, Pope Paul VI announced a Year of Faith commemorating the 19th centenary of themartyrdom of Sts. Peter and Paul. The 1967 Year of Faith called upon the Church to recallthe supreme act of witness by these two saints so that their martyrdom might inspire thepresent day Church to collectively and individually make a sincere profession of faith.

The upcoming Year of Faith declared by Pope Benedict XVI is a summons to an au-thentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the world (Porta fidei 6).In other words, the Year of Faith is an opportunity for Catholics to experience a conversion to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with him. The pope has de-scribed this conversion as opening the door of faith(see Acts 14:27). The door of faithis opened at ones baptism, but during this year Catholics are called to open it again, walkthrough it and rediscover and renew their relationship with Christ and his Church.

The Year of Faith begins in October 2012with a Synod on New Evangelization. What is a synod?

A synod of bishops is a gathering of bishops, selected from different areas of the world, who meet with the pope to discuss questions pertaining to the activity of the Church in theworld. This meeting of bishops helps to foster a closer unity between the bishops and thepope, and provides counsel to the pope. Pope Benedict XVI has situated the Synod on theNew Evangelization (October 7-28) at the beginning of the Year of Faith (October 11).

How are Year of Faith and New Evangelization linked? The New Evangelization is a call to each Catholic to deepen his or her own faith, have

confidence in the Gospel, and possess a willingness to share the Gospel. The New Evangeli-zation is first and foremost a personal encounter with JesusChrist; it is an invitation to deepen ones relationship with Christ. It is also a call to each person to share his or her faith with oth-ers. The Year of Faith, just like the New Evangelization, callsCatholics to conversion in order to deepen their relationshipwith Christ and to share it with others.

Forming Consciences for Faithful CitizensThe moral imperative to respond to the basic needs of our neighbors - such as food, shelter, health care, education, and meaningful work - is universally binding on our conscience - along with these imperatives toserve the poor and those in need is the call to respect all life, from the womb to the tomb. Abortion, euthanasia, death penalty, bigotry are all forms of violence against human life. Catholics should seek thebest methods to respond to these needs. Those who support only some of these needs, yet at the sametime gloss over their support of other actions give in to intrinsically evil actions and do not demonstratea conscience well-formed by Catholic/Christian faith or human reason.

    THANK YOU!
