Catholic Daughters’ Apple Pie Sale November 3-4, 2018

All apple pies will be made from “scratch” with fresh local apples the week of the sale. They will be frozen with directions for baking. Pies will be $12 each and can be frozen for 2 months. I want to order ___ pies. Name ______________________________ Phone _____________________ Please attach payment to your order OR put in an envelope. Bring orders to Ministry Center, give to a Catholic Daughter or put in the collection. THANK YOU for your support!!!! **********Pies can be picked up after all Masses at the Ministry Center, November 3-4************

The insert in this week’s bulletin shows a series of charts that describe the parish’s finances for the 2017-2018 fiscal year that ended on June 30 of this year. The charts indicate how much money was taken in or spent in different categories. Overall, we look good on paper, however, a closer look shows that there are areas that we need to improve upon. Our collections were down 2.3 % from last year. The overall operational income was down 8.4 %, mostly because of the lack of rental income from the St. John Bosco School building. We will be getting rental income from the rental of the St. Mary’s Rectory to CAP but will not make up for the loss of rental income from SJB. On expenses are up slightly due to employee changes. Most of the other expenses are in line with last year. While our bottom line looks good it does not necessarily present the total picture of our financial health. We had over $100,000 in capital expenses this year along with an almost $50,000 shortfall In the Catholic Ministries Appeal. These expenses were offset in part by the change in market investment of over $116,000. That change in investment is not money that comes directly into the parish for us to spend. It goes into an investment account that we can only use a small percentage of each year. Realistically, we need to seek out an additional fundraiser and increase our giving to the Catholic Ministries Appeal. I would like to thank everyone for their generosity. Fr. Jim

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO FR. MIKE WHO TURNS 30 ON OCTOBER 21ST!!!!!!!

The DeSales High School Class of `89 is trying to find their classmates for an upcoming reunion in August 2019. If you happen to know the whereabouts of:

Becki Hunter (St. Mary's class of '85) Jeff Woods (St. Mary's class of '85) Jason Salerno (St. Mary's class of '85) Becky Broomfield (St. Stephen's class of '85)

Please contact Debbie Ralston at (315) 521-1302 or via email: [email protected] If you happen to be in direct contact with them, joining the "DeSales Class Of '89" Facebook page for more information would be the easiest way to get in touch with the group.

On Wednesday, November 14th, we will begin scheduling Masses for the first half of 2019 (January – June). You can stop in the office or call to request a Mass or Masses. I would ask that we concentrate on Masses that week and not schedule sanctuary lamps or bread & wine. These can be scheduled any time during the year. As always, I thank you for your patience.

VOLUNTEERS UPDATE + NEEDED. A PARISH IS AS STRONG AS ITS MEMBERS. In 2018 volunteers from our parish helped the Building & Grounds Committee by (1) cleaning outside St. Pat’s rectory: trimming around sidewalks, taking down a tree and dead branches, weeding, planting flowers and mulching; (2) weeding outside

of both churches and the Ministry Center during the summer months; (3) preparing food for Seneca County inmates who come to help for our Festival, Christmas Craft Show, and other major projects; (4) scraping and painting LONG fence on the west side of the rectory , etc. Statistics have shown that when people volunteer

they feel “ownership”,so thanks to all of you who volunteer in so many ways for our parish!!

STEWARDSHIP CORNER

October 21, 2018 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time “For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

(MARK 10:45)

If you held a mirror up to your life, would it reflect God’s love and mercy? If you are struggling with this, try changing your attitude from “I want more” to “thank you God for everything you have given me, I have enough to share”. This change in perspective will bring you joy through service to others.
