PAGE TWO FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 12, 2015
The Second Vatican Council reaffirmed that Jesus contin-ues to teach with authority. Jesus does so clearly at Mass, when the Holy Scrip-
tures are read in Church, it is Christ himself who speaks to us. That is why we stand when the Gos-pel is proclaimed, because Christ himself is speak-ing to us through his minister. Todays readings remind us of our Divine adoption by God as His sons and daughters. They also remind us of our call to preach the Good News of Jesus by bearing witness to His love, mercy, and salvation as re-vealed through Jesus. The first reading warns us that our witnessing mission will be rejected, much like what happened to the Old Testament prophets like Amos. He was ordered by Amaziah, the angry chief priest serving in the Northern Kingdom of Israel at Bethel, to take his prophesying back to his own country, the Southern Kingdom of Judah. Amos defended his prophetic role with courage, clarifying that it was not his choice, but Gods choice, to elevate him from a shepherd and tree-dresser to a prophet. Like Amos, each one of us is chosen by God through the mystery of Divine adoption in Jesus, to become a missionary and to preach the Gospel. In the second reading, St. Paul explains the bless-
ings that we have received through our Baptism and the responsibility that comes with it that is by Baptism we are missionaries. Then Paul reveals the Divine secret that it had been Gods eternal plan to extend salvation through Jesus, first to the Jews, then to the Gentiles, and then to every na-tion and people. Hence, the people of faith must love, care, and respect one another and proclaim Jesus by their lives. In the Gospel, Mark tells the story of Jesus' giv-ing authority to the twelve apostles to preach the Good News of repentance, forgiveness of sins, liberation, and salvation through Jesus. Just as God sent the prophet Amos to preach repentance to ancient Israel and St. Paul to preach the Good News of salvation to the Gentiles, so Jesus sent forth his followers to proclaim the Good News of Gods Kingdom and to bring healing to those who needed it most. Jesus reminds them that they should be walking examples of Gods love and providence, and should preach repentancea change of heart and a change of action enabling people grow from a self-centered life to a God-centered lifea life guided by the Holy Spirit. Recognizing Jesus and the authority he has given
to the Church and to us to preach and bear witness
to him, we must pray for humility and guidance of

DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests;
For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or
Abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests;
For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests;
For the souls of your priests in Purgatory.
But above all, I recommend to you The priests dearest to me;
The priest who baptized me; The priests who absolved me from
my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me
Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;
The priests who taught and instructed me;
All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way
(especially...) O Jesus, keep them all close
to your heart, And bless them abundantly
in time and in Eternity,
Amen

The fifth annual Mystery Quilt workshop will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Prendergast Hall. It is sure to be a day of fun, relaxation, stimulation, good food and plenty of time for sewing. Its every quilters dream. Class size is limited to 30 people, and interested parties should be intermediate level sewers. The cost of the workshop plus three meals and a snack is $75.00, of that $60.00 is tax deductible (proceeds will benefit Catholic Daughters Chari-ties).
If youre not up for that, you can join us for lunch for only $10.00. Immediately following lunch there will be a special treat; Thelma Johannasen will do a trunk show of her beautiful quilts. As an added bonus, handsome gentlemen wearing white gloves and tuxedos will be holding the quilts for our viewing pleasure.
If you or someone you know is interested in the workshop or lunch and trunk show, please contact Pam Kay at 619-464-2009 or go to her website FiberArtist.com and click on classes.

This year we will have a new group of the German students for a Kolping youth camp at Fr. Joe's Vil-lage to serve lunch to the homeless. The group will be comprised of 7 young adults ( 5 girls and 2 boys). The group will arrive on Sunday, July 19th. The group will be here for 3 weeks ( 2 weeks for the camp and 1 week for private time for site seeing). I need the help and support of the young adults from Santa Sophia Church to help me welcome their fel-low young adults from Germany by creating time to be with them to socialize and to interact. In appreci-ation of the love and support of the host families for the last year's group of the German Kolping young adults, Kolping International will sponsor two young adults from Santa Sophia Church to go to Germany to participate in the International Youth weeks (IYW) in Kronberg, Germany. One girl from our parish, will fund herself to go for the interna-tional youth weeks (IYW) in Germany. There will be 3 participants from USA to participate in IYW in Germany. Our young adults will depart for Germa-ny on July 11th, for 2 weeks. We pray for their safe travels and also for their wonderful international experiences with other youth from other parts of the world.
There is another group of German Kolping young adults in LA for a camp. They arrived on July 3rd. They will be serving breakfast and lunch to the homeless at St. Francis Center in LA. In their pri-vate week of site seeing, they will visit San Diego. We pray that many young adults may join these international social justice programs organized by the Church Organization Kolping international to have international exposure to social justice issues facing the society. Thanks for your support and co-operation.
Peace & love Fr. Bosco
