The school won the Grand Champion Steer in the Hoof Competition. The same steer was awarded Champion School Steer. Brendan Eddy (1st), Stephanie O’Keeffe (2nd), Emily Kirkwood (2nd) and Alex Duke (3rd) received ribbons in the Handlers Competition. The younger students won numerous ribbons showing the stud sheep. I would like to congratulate Mr Trickett for his co-ordination and organisation of the team and the following adult supporters: Mrs Bowler, Mrs Dengate, Mrs Godde, Mrs Kirkwood and Mr Salzke. Without your support the team wouldn’t be able to participate in such wonderful activities such as this show. Students involved in the excursion were: Lucy Godde, Nicholas Bowler, Annie Pumpa, Emily Pinnuck, Joshua O’Brien, Samantha Field, April Salzke, Stephanie O’Keeffe, Cameron Peters- Crowe, Alex Duke and Brendan Eddy. Henty Field Days A big thank you to all the parents who supported the P & C Committee by volunteering their time to work Page 1 in the catering shed at the Field Days. Our students also represented the school with distinction in the Fashion Parades and the Lawn Mower Pulling Competition. Year 12 I would like to thank all the parents and community members who attended the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony on the last day of term 3. it was a very fitting way to recognise the outstanding contribution that the Year 12 students had made to Billabong High School. The entire school community would like to wish the students all the best in the HSC Exams which commence next Monday 17 October. Staff Change Congratulations to Mr David Clancy who retired at the end of term 3 after many years of outstanding service to NSW Public Education and in particular, Billabong High School. He will be replaced during this term by Mr Lindley and Mrs Draper. P & C Meeting The next P & C Meeting will be held at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 25 October. Snake Tails The Science Faculty are organising Snake Tails for Years 7 and 8 on Wednesday 12 October.

Billabong Highlights

Operation Christmas Child This Christmas, through the organisation of the SRC, Billabong High School will be participating in Operation Christmas Child: a unique project of Samaritan’s Purse that brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes.

Each Reading group will be provided with a Christmas-wrapped shoebox and asked to decide who their gift will be for: girl or boy, aged between 2 and 14 years old. Each person is able to contribute a few items to be included in the shoebox (the SRC will provide the postage costs).

Ideas for Shoeboxes Something to Love Teddy bear, doll, soft toy etc.

Something for School Exercise book, pencil case, pens, pencils, colouring pencils, sharpener, eraser, chalk, etc.

Something to Wear-shorts T-shirt, underwear, cap, beanie, sandals, thongs, etc.

Something to play With Tennis ball, cars, skipping rope, marbles, musical

instrument, yo-yo, slinky, finger puppets, wind up torch, etc. (No battery operated items).

Something for Personal Hygiene Soap and face washer, toothbrush, hairbrush, comb, hair-clips, scrunchies, etc. (No toothpaste).

Items that are not allowed: Items that leak or melt— (these can spoil boxes) including toothpaste, bubbles, plasticine and batteries.

Food or lollies of any kind— (due to customs regulations) including medicines and vitamins.

Any used or damaged items- (due to customs regulations) including worn clothing and old toys. Any breakable items – including glass, porcelain and mirrors.

Any item that can scare or harm a child- including knives, war-related toys and toy guns.

Any gambling-related items—including play money, playing cards and dominoes.

Anything of a religious, racial or political nature.
