Page 1 W This week Billabong High School takes another step towards full attendance for all students. As I write, Years 11 and 12 are actively engaged in their lessons and having taught Year 11 PDHPE during Period 1, I can say it certainly is lovely to see the students face-to-face. Both students and teachers have learnt many lessons during the remote learning experience and these lessons will not be wasted as we transition to at-school learning. Teachers will continue to build their significant repertoire of teaching strategies that now also embrace a full complement of technology tools and techniques. As with every other aspect of our Covid-19 environment, our school will maintain high standards and expectations regarding hygiene and health. Extra cleaning is taking place throughout the day and I reinforce the message that students and staff must BILLABONG HIGHLIGHTS Monday 18 May 2020 Term 2 Week 4B remain at home if they are unwell. Any updates or changes to school routine will be published on our school Facebook page and parents are encouraged to remain informed. This week Mr Wawszkowicz is working on a Highly Accomplished Teacher Panel and is conducting interviews for the next cohort of the Aspiring Principal’s Program. Both programs provide platforms for teachers across NSW to enhance their skills and expertise in school leadership and teacher quality. The knowledge Mr Wawszkowicz gains from these experiences further supports staff in their journey and in turn improves outcomes for students. It is normal during this transition phase that students may feel tired as they adjust to the normal school routine and the intensity of the school day, changes to the playground areas will provide students Instructional Leader Report Students playing Spike Ball

with the opportunity to be as active as possible. Thrive will also commence this week with students participating in the activity they selected in Term 1, students will make their Term 2 choices shortly. That also means the arrangements for uniform will remain the same as they were in Term 1. There is a lot happening in our school and many opportunities for students to grow academically and as young people who have lived through a period of history that will be a future topic of study!

AG NewsThe School farm has been busy during isolation. We now have our steers in. Melbourne Show has been cancelled as such but the RASV has implemented a new competition for Steer carcases where steers will be able to participate in a led/unled carcase competition at YEA in VIC. We thank the following studs again: Huon Charolais (Dave and Judy), Margaret Pierce (Limousins), and Black Diamond Speckle Parks (Murray Van Der Drift). Their contributions are invaluable to our students’ learning. We also have been putting in our new Sheep yards thanks to the Drought VET Program and school for the funds. This brings our sheep handling facilities to the 21st century. Donna Parker
