hitting, he hit the ball to all parts of the ground and never gave Murray a chance. It was a special innings to watch, that included 8 sixes. He was eventually out caught on the boundary for (101) and walked off the ground to a standing ovation. Tail enders Blake Lieschke (4), Austin Trethowan (12 not out) and Patrick Murray (6) all finished off a top innings for Billabong that saw them finish at 8/214 off its 32 overs.

Billabong was now due to bowl and openers Dylan Hore (1 wicket) and Cassidy McAliece (2 wickets and on a hat-trick) both started well, with Hore getting the important wicket of Murray opener Darcie l’Anson for (1). First change bowlers Patrick Murray (1 wicket and Jeremy Finlayson (2 wickets) bowled well against a good batting attack that began to fight back. With the game in the balance the boys headed in for drinks, at this stage Murray were 4/83 and still well in the game. After drinks Will Heriot (1 wicket) and Bryce Swift were given the job to put a halt to Murray’s charge. With 3 overs to go and all of Billabong’s used bowlers bowled out Randal Taylor and Nick Wright (1 wicket) bowled extremely well to finish off the game. Billabong were excellent in the field with highlights including Hamish Casey who kept beautifully at the death and young gun Nick Wright who again impressed taking 3 catches.

Billabong ran out winners after keeping Murray to 8/160 off its 32 overs.

The boys now look forward to having a kick of the footy before pulling out the kit again in Term 4 to play their next game. Thanks to Mr Nelson, for driving us to and from the game and umpiring on the day.

On Thursday 5 April (last day of Term1) Billabong’s Senior Cricket Team travelled to Albury to take on Murray High School in the second round of the Davidson Shield.

With Billabong missing big gun Joshua Jones (sickness) and handy player Luke Carman (holidays) Billabong well and truly went in as under-dogs against a very strong Murray Team.

Another toss and another win to skipper Will Heriot who chose to have a bat.

Openers Jeremy Finlayson and Randal Taylor went out to face a tough Murray attack. Unfortunately, Taylor chopped the ball back on to his stumps in the second over and was dismissed for (1). This bought Will Heriot to the crease and he was luckily given a life second ball after being caught off a no ball. Finlayson pushed on the run rate with some quick boundaries but was soon dismissed for (19) after misjudging a ball on his stumps. Dylan Hore (5) and Hamish Casey (0) came and went quickly for Billabong. This brought Bryce Swift to the crease and changed the game completely. Swift settled in quickly and began to hit boundary after boundary. With Swift’s power hitting and Heriot’s supporting role the pair put on 113 runs for the 5th wicket before Heriot was caught behind for (27). Blake Lieschke joined Swift (84 not out) at the crease and the pair ticked over the runs further.

With a healthy score on the board and Murray looking to be struggling, the Billabong boys were pretty happy. But superstar Bryce Swift provided the boys with more enjoyment by bringing up his first ever century. Swift put on a clinic in power
