    GROWTH OF BROADCASTING IN INDIA

    Established in 1987, th e Broadcast Engineering Society (India) is the largestsociety of broadcast professionals in India. The Society aims at promotingthe cause of radio and TV broadcasting in India th rough lectures, seminars,conferences and exhibitions. BES EXPO, an International Conference &Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite Broadcasting organised by the societyevery year, is a step in th is direction. The Society has ten local chapters

    located in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad,Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, Thanjavur and Thiruvananthapuram. At the timeof going to the press, the Society had more than 2,000 individual and 40corporate members on its rolls.

    The FICCI-KPMG report on the Indian Media & Entertainment Industryreleased in March 2011 shows the Indian M & E indu stry grew from INR 587billion in 2009 to 652 billion in 2010, registering an overall growth of 11%.Backed by positive industry sentimen t and growing media consumption, t he

    industry is estimated to grow at 13% to reach a figure of INR 738 billion in2011. As the industry braces for exciting times ahead, the sector is projectedto grow at a CAGR of 14% to reach INR 1,275 billion by 2015 . The growth inthe next five years is likely to be backed by key trends such as Digitisation,Regionalisation, Convergence and Innovation. The specific projections forTV, Radio, Film an d Music industry are as given below:

    Other growth trends related to broadcasting in India are as given below

    DDI and AIR have embarked on an exten sive expan sion programme for HD-TV , digitalization and FM

    DDI plans to set up 40 DVBT2 transmitters and 5 satellite earth stations in coming years, simultaneouslyupgrading its existing earth stations

    DDI plans to set up HD-TV studios in Delhi and Mumba i together with HD-OB vans. HD-TV field product ion andpost-production facilities at the four metros are to be set up and expanded further with 4 HD terrestrialtransmitters

    The existin g 31 part ly digitalized TV Studio Centers an d 8 Analog TV Studio Centers are to be fully digitalized

    DTH is set to sweep the Indian market with DD's DD Direct + growing further to around 100 channels. SeveralPrivate DTH Opera tors are expected to add more subscribers

    DVBH service on mobile hand-held devices has been started by DD with a bouquet of 16 chan nels

    More than 550 TV channels beaming signals over the Indian sub-continen t th rough 7,500 cable networks areexpected to grow furth er

    AIR has 395 t ran smitters including 149 MW, 54 SW and 192 FM. Aroun d 300 more FM transmitters are proposed toth

    In Phase III of Private FM, 839 chan nels in 313 cities are proposed to be installed. In th e 12 Plan , AIR also plans toexpand its FM net work in cities where it doesn 't exist. Nearly 4,000 commun ity radio stat ions are likely to come up

    within the next three years

    BES EXPO 2012: Conference & Exhibition on Terrestrial & SatelliteBroadcasting is the eighteenth in the series of events to be organised byBroadcast Engineering Society (India). The event follows BES EXPO 2011which was appreciated by exhibitors as well as visitors attending theexhibition. Nearly 300 companies from 25 countries displayed theirproducts in BES EXPO 2011 directly or through their dealers in India.Exhibiting companies included those from Australia, Austria, Canada,China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy,

    Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,Taiwan , U.K. and U.S.A.

    BES EXPO 2012 will be held from 11 to 13 February 2012 in Halls 12 & 12A, Pragat i Maidan, New Delhi. Located in thehea rt of Delhi, Pragati Maidan is India's biggest exhibition centre. BES EXPO 2012 will be inaugura ted a t 10.00 A.M.on 11 February 2012. While th e conference will be held in Hall 12, the exhibition will be he ld in Hall12A.

    BES EXPO 2012 is open for participation by manufacturers, dealers, distributors and suppliers of products,equipmen t, systems an d services related to terrestria l & satellite broadcasting for Radio an d TV as well as studio andpost-production, an alog as well as digital. Equipmen t and technology which can be displayed in the expo includes,amon g others:

    BES EXPO 2012 is expected to be visited by nearly 4,000 engineers, managers, cinematographers, consultants,ent repreneurs and policy and decision-makers from Radio and TV broadcasting organ isations as well as studio an dpost-production units in India, Bhutan , Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.     BES EXPO 2012 is approved by Ministry of Information & Broadcast ing,Govern ment of India , endorsed by IABM U.K. an d supported by PrasarBharati, Ministry of Communications & IT, ABU Malaysia, Society ofBroadcast Engineers, U.S.A. and several other national andinterna tional organisations.

    Space in BES EXPO 2012 is available in the following categories:

    Shell Scheme: with furniture & fixtures including one table, twochairs, four spot-lights, one plug-point, facia, one waste-paperbasket and carpet for every 9 sqm space taken by exhibitors.

    Raw Space Scheme: with marked space and a point for drawingpower. Exhibitors participating in this category are expected toarrange their own furniture and fixtures. Raw space stalls arelocated at corners and are two- or three-side open.

    Open Space: for DSNG Van s, dish anten na etc.

    The stan dard size of a stall (booth) in th e expo is 3m x 3m x 2.5m (9sqm).However, bigger stalls are also available as raw-space for exclusivedisplay by a single company deta ils of which can be had from The ExpoCoordinator.

    Minimum space that can be booked by a single company in t he she llscheme is 9 sqm. Space taken in different categories will be separated bya wall. Space will be allotted st rictly on first-come first-served basis and

    is expected to fill up fast. Sharing and sub-lett ing of stalls is notpermitted. Since space in the expo is limited, organisations desirous ofparticipat ing in BES EXPO 2012 may fax or e-mail their requiremen t toThe Expo Coordinator on the en closed Reply Form as soon as possible.The floor-plan for Hall 12A is enclosed.
