Year Awards

Sneak Preview

New Toyota FT-1 Brings Rush of Adrenaline As visitors to the Toyota booth at this year’s Montreal International Auto Show dis-covered, the Toyota FT-1 – which is made its debut on Canadian soil – embodies the essence of where Toyota is headed. The company is focused on introducing new cars and trucks that excite the senses and connect on a powerful, emotional level with consumers.“At Toyota, our vehicles are about quality, durability as well as great design and han-dling – all bringing customers more fun and delight,” said Seiji Ichii, President and CEO, Toyota Canada Inc.The FT-1 has a stunning front engine rear-wheel drive configuration that creates clas-sic sports car proportions to be expected from a vehicle poised to dominate even the most challenging road course. And the interior ignites heart-racing adrenaline for the driver, with the chance to grip an F1-inspired steering-wheel while sitting within an intimate, low-slung cockpit designed to heighten the senses. The FT-1 joins other exciting Toyota vehicles at the show, including the TS030 rac-ing hybrid – the predecessor of the TS040 that enabled Toyota to become the first Japanese manufacturer to win the prestigious FIA World Endurance Championship in 2014.

New Mitsubishi Outlander +Plug-in Hybrid SUV

Mitsubishi Motors demonstrated to show go-ers of Montreal’s 2015 Salon International de l’ auto that the new Outlander PHEV offers it

all: The latest electric vehicle technology, superior four-wheel-drive handling, proven sport utility design, and range-extending capability.Already the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in Eu-rope, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV IS coming to Ca-nadian shores next year. The display Outlander PHEV, a current Euro-specifica-tion production vehicle in Technical Silver, was accom-panied by a demonstration model; essentially, a see-through cutaway to help explain the world-class PHEV technology, including: The world’s only twin-electric motor four-wheel drive plug-in hybrid 60 kilowatt out-put drive battery, Super All-Wheel Control 4WD system configuration, Three distinct driving modes, Six driver-select brake regeneration technology modes and a 2.0-litre gasoline engine to drive the on-board genera-tor.

When Outlander PHEV arrives in Canada next year it will look (and drive) quite differently from the European model. While pricing, specifications and design chang-es will be announced at launch, at this time Mitsubishi Motors expects Outlander PHEV will set the new stan-dard for four-wheel-drive compact sport utility plug-in hybrids in Canada.

Ford F-150’s Use of Aluminum Alloy wins AJAC’s 2015 Best New Technology AwardFord F-150’s use of aluminum alloy won ‘Best New Technology’ by the Automobile Journalist Associa-tion of Canada (AJAC). Thanks to its innovative, high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy body, coupled with the high-strength steel frame, the 2015 F-150 is nearly 317 kg (700 lbs.) lighter, resulting in increased towing and hauling capability, and even better fuel efficiency. This light weight also improves acceleration, braking and handling performance.“The all-new 2015 Ford F-150 is tougher, smarter and more capable than ever,” said Mike Sinuita, truck product marketing manager, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd. “The game-changing use of alu-minum alloy is the first step in establishing a new standard for full-sized pickups. We are proud and humbled to have the F-150’s use of aluminum alloy be named AJAC’s Best New Technology.”

Hyundai Launches New 2016 Sonata Hybrid and Plug in Hybrid Hyundai launched its first plug-in hybrid in Detroit recently. The 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is expected to travel up to 35 km on electric power and can recharge in as little as two and a half hours with a Level 2 charger.

Once the maximum electric-only range has been reached, the Sonata PHEV goes on to perform just like a regular hybrid vehicle.

The company also introduced an all-new Sonata Hybrid. Sonata Hybrid continues to visual-ly differentiate itself from other Sonata models with purposefully unique wheels and front and rear fascias that improve aerodynamics while highlighting Sonata Hybrid’s advanced technology and efficiency. The 2016 Sonata Hybrid is expected to deliver improved fuel economy over the previous generation Sonata Hybrid. The Sonata PHEV and Hybrid will be built at the Asan, South Korea plant and will go on-sale later this year. Prices will be announced closer to the vehicles’ on-sale date.

Although the Sonata PHEV is very technologically advanced, it will behave much like the regular Sonata Hybrid from the driver’s seat. A 9.8 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack, roughly five times larger than the Sonata Hybrid’s battery, is expected to give Sonata Plug-in Hybrid an all-electric range of up to 35 km, farther than any other intermediate PHEV sedan.

Sonata Plug-in Hybrid uses a six-speed automatic transmission with Hyundai’s Transmission-Mounted Electrical Device (TMED), a 50 kW electric motor, in place of a torque converter. The 50 kW electric motor is 32 percent more powerful than the motor used the in regular Sonata Hybrid and allows EV operation at higher speeds and for greater duration. The innovative Transmission has been upgraded significantly since its introduction with the origi-nal Sonata Hybrid and now uses an electric oil pump, improv-ing efficiency through reduced parasitic loss. Thanks to Sonata Hybrid’s fully parallel Blue Drive hybrid architecture, the vehicle can operate solely on electric power, even at highway speeds, by decoupling the gasoline engine from the rest of the drivetrain.A 2.0-litre four-cylinder GDI engine joins the electric motor to power the Sonata Plug-in Hybrid once the battery is depleted. Sonata PHEV’s Nu engine produces 154 horsepower and 140 lb. ft. of torque and the total system output is 202 horsepower at 6,000 rpm.Sonata PHEV is expected to deliver an estimated 2.5 L/100 km combined in EV mode. In charge sustaining mode, the Sonata PHEV is expected to return 6.2 L/100 km in the city, 5.5 L/100 km on the highway and 5.9 L/100 km combined. Recharge time ranges from two and a half hours at a 240V Level 2 charging sta-tion to five hours using a standard 120V outlet.

Sonata Hybrid’s gasoline engine produces 154 horsepower and 140 lb. ft. of torque. The electric motor produces 38 kW (51 horsepower) and 151 lb. ft. of torque. Hybrid system net power is 193 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Sonata Hybrid is expected to achieve up to 6.0 L/100km in the city, 5.2 L/100km on the highway and have a combined rating of 5.6 L/100km.The Sonata PHEV will be available nation-wide later in 2015. Sonata PHEV buyers will be eligible for a provincial tax credit in Ontario and Quebec.

Kia Canada reveals all-new, third generation

Kia Canada Inc. revealed the Canadian debut of the all-new 2016 Sorento SUV at the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS). The 2016 Sorento brings new refinement and cutting-edge technology to the highly competitive segment and is expected to arrive

at dealerships across Canada in early spring of 2015.Overall, the all-new Sorento takes on a brawnier, more planted stance, communicating its edginess and rugged personality. The clean profile is easily recognizable as Sorento, en-hanced with stronger shoulders and a long hood to deliver a more aerodynamic and sleek appearance. The aggressively styled front end is an evolution of the upper fascia seen on the Cross GT concept and bears a strong family resemblance to the all-new highly praised Sedona multipurpose vehicle (MPV). The Sorento’s muscular body sits atop three new alloy wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19 inches, depending on trim level.Depending on trim level, the ready-for-adventure 2016 Sorento comes with standard 40/20/40 second-row folding five-passenger and available 50/50 folding third-row seven-passenger seating configurations. For added luxury, also available are heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, 10-way power driver and 8-way power passenger seats, driver’s seat thigh extension, a 4-way headrest with one-button adjustment, dual-zone automatic temperature control and Kia’s second-generation panoramic sunroof.

Overall cargo volume in the new Sorento is rated at 2,082 L, while cargo volume behind the 3rd row is rated at 320 L, providing increased space for essentials and active-lifestyle equip-ment without sacrificing rear-passenger room. The core of the all-new 2016 Sorento is its significantly modified platform. The enhanced structure increases torsional rigidity by 14 percent over the previous generation. Fifty-three percent of the unit-body consists of advanced high-strength steel, a 115 percent increase over the outgoing model.A number of safety features are also offered, including seatbelt anchor pretensioners and six airbags, to help give drivers the confidence and peace-of-mind. New available driver aid technology, including Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert and 360o Camera Monitoring, help provide Sorento owners with a more convenient daily driving experience.Sorento continues to offer an advanced AWD system that automatically routes power to the wheel with the most traction. When conditions call for more sure-footed capability, the 4WD Lock Mode splits engine power evenly between the front and rear drive shafts. The spirited front- or all-wheel drive experience is brought to life with a choice of three engines, including a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder GDI, a 3.3-litre V6 GDI and a new 2.0-litre 4-cylinder GDI turbocharged power plant. The 2.4-litre engine, with new Electronic Cam Variable Valve Timing (E-CVVT) delivers a ca-pable 185 horsepower. On the other end of the engine range, the Sorento’s V6 gallops to the tune of 290 horses on the open road and with that power, the Sorento is now able to tow up to 5,000 lbs. In the middle, the new turbocharged I-4 provides a best-of-both-worlds scenario, making a stout 240 horsepower while also delivering commendable fuel efficiency. All three engines channel energy through an electronically controlled six-speed automatic gearbox.

For a new immigrant coming to Canada a good used car may often be a necessity depending on your lifestyle, work commuting and family transportation needs.

Good used vehicles are in demand, but at the same time, there unscrupulous sellers that have no hesitation selling poor qual-ity cars to unsuspecting buyers. However with some good basic research and a cautious, knowledgeable approach you can find a decent vehicle to fit your needs at a price within your budget.

Find The Right Vehicle

Firstly; ensure you are buying the right vehicle for your needs. A good second vehicle can offer years of service at an afford-able price to help transition into Canadian society at a time when finances may be tight. Think affordability, unless you have a generous budget and weight up exactly what kind of vehicle you need. Remember that the type of vehicle you buy can affect your insurance costs.

For example, a small car will suit a single person or couple. If you have a growing family think about a mid-size car with a bigger back seat and larger trunk. Moving up, Mini-vans are ideal if you have a couple of children or an extended family comprised of adults. Mini vans offer multiple seats from seven to eight and a correspondinglylarger cargo area.

SUVS are a lifestyle choice for some who like the styling and four-wheel drive ability. If you have moved to a region of Can-ada with harsh, snowy winters or live in a rural area with hills and rough roads an SUV maybe ideal. Bear in mind, small four cylindercars with manual transmission that many immigrants new to Canada are used to are still the most fuel efficient, and cheap to buy and maintain. Bigger V6 engine vehicles with automatic transmission, and V8 powered vehicles cost more considerably more to operate and own.

Do The Research

Before you go out looking, ensure you are armed with as much informa-tion and knowledge on the specific type or make of vehicle that interests you. Tools such as Canadian automo-tive websites and the Canadian Black Book, list the value for used vehicles of different types according to age and condition. Look up ve-hicles you are interested in and check for manufacture recalls in the past and common problems that need fixing. Research will reveal which car are good or bad second hand buys and could end up saving you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in the future

Where To Buy?Once you have done your research, there are a number of op-tions in buying a used vehicle. Second-hand car dealer lots or new car dealerships are the traditionally the first place buyers visit. They generally have a large selection of all kinds of ve-

hicles on site and although prices can be higher than private buyers, there should usually be warrantees and guarantees on any vehicle you buy. Dealer should also be members of a registered trade organization and so have liabilities and consumer protection in place. Local and national newspapers also have auto classified sections and there are dedicated trade papers that also specialize in new and used cars. There are also online on websites such as Craigslist where sellers advertise cars for sale.

Things To Be Aware Of

Always question a deal that seems too good to be true - espe-cially on the internet. That big, luxury car going for the price of a small compact car may have serious flaws, be flood dam-aged, stolen or is being sold under false pretenses. Avoid any deal if you get suspicious about the seller or vehicle. Be wary of cars that come from out of Province or from the US─No matter how good the deal.

Buying On the Internet Avoid doing business with a seller who won’t meet face-to-

face and insists only on dealing with you via phone or email. The vehicle being sold may not be what it is claimed to be and the chances of fraud high. Also do not pay up front for a vehicle until you see on it and be suspicious if the seller demands cash only. If the seller insists on using a third-party on-line service, to handle payments, investi-gate the service to make sure it’s legitimate and secure.

Beware of Curbsiders and Street SellersExercise caution and be alert when dealing with a private seller who has numerous cars listed for sale at the same telephone

number or web address. These “curbsiders” could be un-licensed individuals, who sell multiple vehicles from the street illegally. They are usually hard to track down and deal with if there is a major problem later with thevehicle. One way to filter these curbsiders is to call them and say “I am calling about thecar.” If the seller asks you, “Which one?” you know they are probably an unlicensed dealer with a number of cars. Most legitimate auto dealers belong to professional or-ganizations and are accountable to rules and regulations which offer buyers some protection if there is dispute.

Doing an Inspectionwhen inspecting a vehicle always carry out the proce-dure in daylight so everything is apparent. Inside- worn interior seats, door trim and foot pedals indicate a hard used life.Very badly worn front and rear seat may indicate a very high mileage ex- taxi cab. Check the odometer for sign of tampering and that all the interior electronic features work as they are expensive to replace.

Examine the exterior closely. Badly fitting panels, mis-aligned bumpers, missing trim and paint overspray could mean recent bodywork, whilst ripple or waves on the body could signal the vehicle has been in an acci-

dent. Check for oil, brake and hydraulic fluid leaks under the vehicle and sagging suspension- another indication of an ex-taxi cab.Open up the hood for signs of engine oil and fluid leaks. Lift up the floor mats, trunk liners and spare tire to check the trunk for rust, rot and water leaks. You can usually see stains, marks or smell mould or damp from water leaks.

Take A Test Drive On the test drive, insist on trying the vehicle out on different road surfaces and at various speeds to check steering, engine noise, vibrations, transmission problems, brakes, shock absorb-

ers and front-end alignment. Do a few emergency stops and listen closely for transmission, engine and suspension noises that could indicate trouble ahead. If the vehicle pulls to one side and the steering does not center itself this could spell alignment or tracking issues caused by a previous accident.

Get a Mechanics Report If you are still feeling positive about the vehicle - have it taken to a mechanic you trust or a diagnostic center for a thorough inspection before buying. Do not let the seller recommend a garage or mechanic he or she knows. It is not unknown for ga-rages and seller to work together to dupe unknowing buyers. A good mechanic will do a thorough check of the car and high-light any flaws and recommend if any work is needed doing to keep the car safe and reliable. Get a written report on the vehicle.

Accident And Registration ReportIn the meantime get the car checked out using your provincial driver services provider or an independent service such as Car-Proof who, for a fee will give a registration report on if the ve-hicle has ever been in accident. They should also check the car has not been stolen or has any outstanding liens, fines or tick-ets applied to it. If the report does reveal a previous accident or damage, check to make sure the vehicle has been properly fixed when having its mechanical inspection done.

Negotiating To BuyIf the vehicle meets all your criteria: has passed it mechanical inspection and you want to buy the car, you can start negotiat-ing with the seller about a price for the vehicle.Consider the official value of the vehicle from official trade journals such the Canadian Black book taking into account: Age, mileage, general condition, upgrades or extra features- minus any defects, or mechanical issues, you see and the me-chanics written report finds out.

Use any flaws in the vehicle as a bargaining tool if need be to reach a price both you and the seller are comfortable with. Re-member to be calm and rational and not be let emotion enter into the decision, no matter how much you like the car. You do not want to overpay for it. Evaluate any counter offer by the seller, but be prepared to walk away if need be, unless you feel inherently the car is worth the money the seller is asking. If you do not buy the vehicle, be philosophical about it. The used car business is many times bigger than the new car busi-ness and there are plenty of other good used vehicles out there for you.

Do you find yourself replacing your car battery every 1-2 years? Car batteries have a calendar life meaning at one point whether you use them or not, you will need to replace them. If you find yourself replacing your car battery every 1-2 years, see below for a guide to extend your car battery’s life. 1. Keep the battery terminals clean and inspect regularly (i.e. monthly) for cor-rosion.2. Start the car before operating car accessories and operate (drive) the car to allow the battery to get topped off by the car alternator which produces electricity and as a by-product charges the car battery after voltage drops in the battery.3. Keep the battery secure and free from vibration. Batteries that shake can become dam-aged and short circuited or worse cause damage to your car.

4. Insulate the battery from extreme temperature changes with a car battery insulation kit. These usu-

ally come with new cars already, however you can find replacements specifically made to fit your car’s bat-

tery compartment. The sleeves are usually plastic or an acid resistant/thermal resistant material that insulates your

battery but still allows it to vent.5. Invest in a car battery charger that will maintain an optimum

charge level when your car is not in use or when you go on vacation. 6. Check the car battery water level indicator on a regular basis! Most car batteries will in-dicate if it needs more water. It may never require water, but if so only use distilled water. Why is the Battery Draining When My Car is Off?

Imagine my shock to learn the big, full-size 2015 Lincoln Navigator now comes in a V6 powered version! A new Ford twin-turbo 3.5L EcoBoost V6 mated to a six-speed

automatic gearbox is the default power unit now. However the Navigator still keeps its massive size and can seat eight people in three rows. Just to see how far Ford engine technology has improved ─ the Triton V8 produced 310 horsepower and 365 pound-feet; while the advanced twin-turbo Ecoboost V6 delivers impres-sive 380 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. All this in an almost three-ton SUV! In addition to the new engine transplant, the Navigator also receives its first major makeover since 2007. There is a new hood and a fresh Lincoln corporate split-wing grille. The handsome lines have been cleaned up with softer square edged styling. Our tester featured 20-inch wheels black -finished wheels, jewel-effect daytime running lights, high-intensity-discharge adaptive headlamps with LED ac-cents and power operated running boards to ease access and exit from this high riding SUV.The cabin has also been updated with a redesigned dash, dark leather seat, and polished wood and shiny metal trim. Features include the technologically driven Sync system with MyLincoln Touch, that allows drivers to use voice-activated or touchscreen controls to make phone calls, play music,

manage the navigation system or set cabin temperature. The system includes a 4.2-inch LCD screen in the instrument clus-ter, an eight-inch touch screen in the centre stack and tradi-tional knobs for easy operation. Standard features offer; Dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and cooled front seats, power-fold 60/40 third-row fold flat seats, voice-activated navigation screen, memory settings for driver’s seat position, exterior mirrors, adjustable pedals and steering column, leather-wrapped and wood-trimmed steering wheel with power tilt column, cruise con-trol and secondary audio controls, THX II premium audio sys-tem, Sync, power windows, door locks and sunroof, remote

keyless entry, power lift gate, remote start, blind sport infor-mation system, scuff plates, rain- and speed-sensing wind-shield wipers, power-deployable running boards, forward and reverse sensing systems, rear-view camera, power fold-ing exterior mirrors with puddle lamps, integrated blind spot mirrors and driver’s side auto-dimming feature. Available only with a four-wheel drivetrain for the Canadi-an market, the Navigator comes with Hill Descent Control, along with standard hill start assist. Options include a 4.10 rear axle and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. The big Navigator is designed to seat up to eight people, and there is a second-row option that include two captain’s chairs

The battery loses capacity from self-discharging. If it is connected to your car, it could also have a small load from accessories or car computers that will draw current from the battery which will also aids in the battery losing capacity if it is not being recharged. Bad cables caus-ing short circuits and bad alternators which don’t effectively recharge the battery are sometimes the culprit as well. If you suspect a bad alternator you should take your car to a car bat-tery specialist or a mechanic that can test the battery and check for parasitic drain. Before Disconnecting Your BatteryIf you plan to disconnect your car battery from your car, be sure you read your car owner’s manual! In most cases (unless otherwise stated in your manual) you will need to disconnect the negative cable first and then the positive cable. When you reconnect the battery you use the reverse order by connecting the positive cable first and then the negative cable. Doing this simple step incor-rectly can have adverse effects on fuses and other

electronics especially in complicated ,expensive vehicles resulting in hundreds of dollars in repair costs Even keeping the keys in the ignition when connecting or disconnecting may have negative

effects so always read the man-ual.

Don’t overcharge your bat-tery

Never overcharge your car battery!

When lead-acid batteries are

overcharged, they could

release oxy-gen and hydro-

gen gases which could be explosive.

Also this causes de-composition of the

water in the battery leading to premature ag-

ing of the battery. Safety Precautions

Never try to open a sealed lead acid battery for any reasons Batteries contain dangerous chemi-cals and heavy metals and create explosive gases when charging so never tamper with them and always charge in a well-ventilated area. Before handling a car battery that is installed in your car, open the hood and allow time for natural ventila-tion to take place.

with or without a centre console, or a fold-flat bench as on our tester. The third row seats feature a power fold-flat capability. The Navigator has excellent interior room due to size, with 18.1 cubic feet of cargo behind the third row, 54.4 cu. ft. with the back seat folded and a huge103.3 cu. ft. of space with the second and third rows folded flat. On the road, the Navigator’s Twin-turbo 3.5L DOHC V6 delivers 380 horsepower @ 5,250 rpm; with 460 lb-ft of torque @ 2,750 rpm. The V6 has ample power for everyday use Ford and the lighter engine weight makes the 2015 model is the best-handling Navigator ever, in part to the addition of electric power-assisted steering and the Lincoln Drive Control option, which offers a smooth ride handling on almost any surface. The Six-speed transmission is also a refined unit offering well-timed transitions. However due to its size and girth, the Lincoln Navigator is happiest on the highways and the urban playground where it offers excellent it offers relaxed cruising. Steering is light, but don’t expect agility either as the big Navi needs room to manoeuvre in tight areas. Given the Navi’s size, the blind spot information system is a welcome and necessary fea-ture, Likewise the rear-view camera is a much-needed addition when backing up. Fuel economy is up ─ thanks to the more efficient V6 engine, however it’s not frugal, with a Nat-ural Resources Canada fuel economy figure of (L/100 km) 16.2 city, 11.8 highway With the luxurious leather seat and trim, a plethora of storage, nooks and crannies and numerous cup holders the Navigator excels as being a supremely comfortable, long - distance hauler

offering unrivalled room and proper adult- sized three rows seating. It is big and broad in the beam, but is still the ultimate full-size SUV if that what you need. Haul a big family, and a boat, camper or race car trailer? this is where the Navigator dominates. 2015 Lincoln Navigator priced from $75,150 Price as tested - $77,935

New 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel Makes a StatementThe Rebel’s trail-running capability gets a boost with one-inch raised ride height for improved off-road approach, departure and break over angles. Bilstein® sup-plies front and rear shocks with unique tuning and a new steering calibration is matched to the Rebel’s increased ride height. A softer rear stabilizer bar provides improved dynamics. Beefy 33-inch (LT285/70R17) Toyo Open Country A/T all-terrain tires are mounted to the all-new 17-inch silver and black cast aluminum wheels. The Rebel takes advantage of Ram’s exclusive air suspension system with a one-inch factory suspension lift, which not only helps to clear the 33-inch tires but also contributes to additional ground clearance. A modified alignment of the independent front suspension appropriately adjusts tire angle and aluminum lower A-arms absorb the load. The combination of larger tires and a suspension lift yield best-in-class ground clearance of 10.3 inches, and a new stability pro-gram calibration takes Rebel’s modifications into consideration.Rebel goes on sale early in the second half of 2015.

Of course there aresome quirky delights such as the illuminated “mood lamp” speakersthat can pulse in time with the musicand which young people just find fascinating. The cabin is quite roomy front andrear and with the back seats upright, the Soul can accommodate 19.3 cubicfeet and a generous 53.4 cu. ft. withthe 60/40-split/folding seats down. Other standout features include a flatload floor a wide square tailgate opening that allows for easy loadingand unloading. On the road, the tall high cabin andupright windshield mean driving visibility is excellent and good sightlines mean parking and urbandriving is easy. With its high level of standardequipment and safety comprising sixairbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability. To sum up I really like the Kia Soul

with its left field styling, a roomy interior and seating for five with goodfunctionality. It is fun to drive and attracts many admiring glances. Most impressive is the level of standard equipment, the well-equipped optional trim lines andpaint, wheel and roof choices. Add tothat a seriously amazing and temptinglist price and you have to consider it iflooking uber-cool family vehicle withplenty of heritage charm.

Engine option come in the form of either a 2.4 liter four cylinder unit or 2.0 liter four cylinder engine. Transmission options include a five-speed manual or the six speed automatic trans-missions teamed with either the Freedom Drive I, or Freedom Drive II All-wheel drive systems. The Jeep Compass arrives in a number of model ranging from the base models to luxury clad North and Limited models- ranging in price from price from $17,745 - $27,795. Even base models come well-equipped with full power accessories, fog lamps, and alloy wheels are included in all models. The base Compass Sport 4 x 2 offers extras such as cruise control, antilock brakes and side roof rails. The top line 2015 Jeep Compass is the Limited 4x4 edition that is base priced at $27,795, and arrives with such items as a 6-way power driver’s seat with lumbar control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and a leather-faced interiors, Automatic climate control and 18-inch alloys arrive with the top Limited models. The Limited trim line also adds projector headlamps, additional chrome trim, a driver information display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a rear-view camera, a 6.5-inch touchscreen (with optional hard-drive-based music storage and navigation), a six-CD changer and satellite radio.Options on Limited include the Sun and Sound group with express power window close, 9 speaker Boston Acoustic Speaker with subwoofer($1,050) , 2 articulating liftgate speakers ($225), trailer prep group, Security and cargo convenience group, six- speed auto transmission with Autostick, Uconnect 40gb Hard drive.

The Compass interior is well laid-out and comes with a number of innovative features, like a rechargeable flashlight and outward-facing tailgate speakers. Interior room is very good up front and adequate in the back cabin with a somewhat hard rear bench seat. Jeep upgraded some of the Compass’s interior materials last year, including available accent stitching on certain trim pieces. The front seats are comfortable enough and adequately sup-portive for longer drives. Given the rear cabin dimensions - rear legroom is tighter than expected Maximum cargo capacity of 53.6 cubic feet. Storage behind the second row is 22.7-cubic-foot. cargo hold is also relatively stingy. Safety wise the Compass has: side curtain airbags, Brake Traction Control, Brake Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation, front-seat side airbags, active head restraints, and a driver-controlled three-mode Electronic Stability Program (ESP) are all included as standard features, and an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with rough-road detection are all included. On the road, I recommend getting the bigger, 172-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine over the 158-hp, 2.0-liter four, with its 24 pound-feet more torque advantage. the Compass has a car- like ride and with some underpinnings from the last Dodge Caliber. Handling is adequate on the highway and in the city. The test Compass was powered by the larger 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine producing 172 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, and 165 lbs. torque at 4,000 rpm. Official Canadian Energuide Fuel economy figures are officially at the 8 10.0 L/100km in the city and 7.4 L/100km on the highways. The Jeep Compass performs very well on light trails and rough country with its high ground clearance and would be an asset to those living in areas of regular snow and hilly terrain. To sum up the Compass could be a tad more refined on road, but remains an absolute bargain for the price, and has excellent off-road ability when equipped with the 4 x 4 options. Also note a step up is available to the very

good 2015 Jeep Cherokee and the cool-looking 2015 Jeep Renegade that will be here soon. 2015 Jeep Compass Limited 4x4. Priced from $17,495 - $26,760
