2016 Ferrari FF Coupe: Not the usual Ferrari!

Rarely if ever seen, outside of Europe, the Ferrari FF is a left-field coupe that has actually been around since 2011.In Europe this kind of shortened rear coupe is called shooting-brake. The Ferrari FF (FF meaning “Ferrari Four”, for four seats and four-wheel drive) has a top speed of

335 km/h (208 mph) and it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, thus making it one of the fastest production cars in the world. For now, the FF has a 6.3-liter V12 that produces 651 horse-power at 8,000 rpm and 504 lb-ft. of torque at 6,000 rpm. Mounted entirely aft of the front axle for optimal weight distribution – the transmission is located in the rearFor 2016, the FF will see a its V12 engine rise in power from 660 brake horsepower (European power ratings.) to close to 700bhp in a 2016 refresh. For the uninitiated, the FF has four-wheel drive and a seven speed twin clutch auto transmission; however this will be replaced by a new eight speed auto transmission. To further boost the sales volume of the unique all-wheel drive 2+2-seater, Ferrari is expected to offer an ‘entry-level’ FF powered by a twin-turbo V8, borrowed from Ferrari California T and new 2015 Ferrari M458-T.

The TVD features three operating modes: Standard, (default) providing a balance of agility and firmness; Slalom, emphasizing nimble steering response and agility; and Track, which enhances stability during high-speed circuit driving. The new GS F will offer drivers a very balanced sedan with genuine dual personality, equally adept at trimming lap times and the commute back home.

MISSISSAUGA - Subaru Rally Team Can-ada (SRTC) victoriously completed the first round of the 2015 Canadian

Rally Championship (CRC), Rallye Perce-Neige, in Maniwaki, QC. Seven-time CRC driver cham-pion, Antoine L’Estage, and three-time CRC co-driver champion, Alan Ockwell, quickly felt out the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI and con-tinuously got quicker throughout the event. The first outing of the 2015 CRC for SRTC was highlighted with fantastic results, capturing 14 stage wins, out of a possible 16, and be-ing welcomed on the podium with two other Subaru siblings. A total of eight Subarus fin-ished in the top 10 at the 50th Anniversary event of the Rallye Perce-Neige.With its own challenges, Rallye Perce-Neige had rough conditions with extreme cold and snow-covered roads, while also playing host to a reunion of sorts with a grouping of sea-soned rally veterans all competing for the title. The snow-covered roadways tested new ve-hicles and teams throughout the entire day, with some facing more hardships than oth-ers. L’Estage and Ockwell quickly found their groove being in a new vehicle and did not miss a beat.The 2015 Subaru WRX STI that SRTC compet-ed with was a completely new vehicle pains-takingly prepared and built from the ground up for weeks on-end by Rocket Rally Racing for the 2015 season. for a total as-tested MSRP of $69,445 plus freight. The X4 interior features a high quality passenger cabin that offers superb comfort, luxury and space. It is a true five seater and offers a decent backseat, with enough headroom for six-footers in the rear passenger compartment. Yet another cool interior option is the $300 Storage Compartment Package that includes luggage nets on the front seatbacks, under the centre console on the passenger side and on the left side of the cargo area, plus two cargo rails with four fastening points on the cargo area floor, a reversible cargo mat, various multi-purpose hooks, and a tensioning strap.Up front, vision is excellent through the big windows. The heated leather sports seats are comfortable and supportive with well-padded bolsters for hard cornering. The dash is typi-cal BMW – driver focused, with a meaty leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, excellent gauges, controls, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, dual zone auto-matic climate control, display audio with USB integration and Bluetooth connectivity, and a powered glass sunroof all add to the interior features, technology and comfort, Fit and finish of the high quality plastics, fabrics and leather is impressive, and there is good on-board storage. The rear seats fold down (40/20/40 split) to create an almost flat cargo area with a maximum load of 1,399 litres (49.4 cu ft). On the road, although the X4 is no lightweight at 1,873 kilograms, acceleration remains very fast. The turbocharged direct-injection 3.0-litre inline-six engine on the 35i delivers a very smooth 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque achievable from way down in the tach range and spools up progressively in BMW’s typically linear fashion. Grip is excellent through the corners thanks to BMW’s well-sorted xDrive all-wheel drive system. Meanwhile, the X4’s standard traction and stability control can be enhanced with BMW’s Performance Control that uses the standard dynamic stability control sensors and the four wheel disc braking system to variably distribute torque to the inside wheel during cornering for improved han-dling. Fast highway cruising is rewarding with the rush of torque, whilst the agile steering makes short work of crowded urban areas. Dynamic Damper Control, a $1,200 option is a handy feature that allows the driver adjusts the suspension between Comfort, Normal or Sport set-tings. Dynamic cruise control is standard too, as is the brand’s driver-selectable Driving Expe-rience toggle switch with the Eco Pro setting to help the X4 with fuel economy.Natural Resources Canada fuel economy (L/100 km) 12.5 city; 8.7 highway.To sum up, the BMW X4 is premium branded, high quality alternative to a traditional boxy SUV and offer a lot of style. With the 3 liter engine, you get true sports sedan handling and the benefit of All Wheel Drive. No real negatives to speak off…after all it is a BMW. It gets expensive with options, but nothing new here. However there is the less expensive X4 xDrive28i and the X3 and X1 SAV’s if you need something smaller.

The 2015 Acura RLX is the Acura lines flagship super- luxury sedan Replacing the out-going Acura RL sedan, the new RLX is a sleek, modern car that looks impressively ex-pensive. The wide expansive sheet metal, steep windshield and the signature strik-

ing-looking “Jewel-eye” headlights will make the car stand out. The two rows of four LED elements seem to sparkle and shine even in daylight and attracted many comments. The lights flank a neater version of Acura’s current corporate grille. The body profile of the RLX is otherwise without any controversy with its deep flanks, aerodynamics bodyside character line and beautiful detailing and chrome trim.The rear of the RLX is also neat and tidy with large, nice looking rear light clusters that have LED outlines surrounding them. Attractive 19-inch rims alloy wheels shod in 245/40-sized tires complete the look.

The RLX befitting its flagship status arrives in a limited number of trim lines, three namely: the $49,990 base, the $55,990 Tech and the $62,190 Elite. The Acura RLX is powered by a new direct-injection SOHC 3.5 L i-VTEC V6 engine, generat-ing 310 hp and 272 lb.-ft torque. The standard transmission is a six speed automatic unit with optional paddle shifter control. The Hybrid SH-AWD model we tested pairs an electric motor with the 3.5-litre, V-6 driving the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automated gearbox. There is also a pair of electric motors in the rear of the car driving each rear wheel. The 377-horsepower Acura RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD luxury-performance sedan is the first vehicle to deploy Acura’s new three-motor hybrid powertrain technology – a world first and similar powertrain will also power the Acura NSX supercar when it comes to market. 2015 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid

vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is also featured on the Sport Hybrid.Interior wise the Acura RLX is a tad larger than the RL gaining 10 mm in height and 45 mm in width. This results in larger roomy feeling cabin featuring Acura’s typical mix of high quality materials and fine build quality. The leather seats look and feel luxurious, the wood detail is shiny and deep and the soft touch plastics well- crafted and fitted. The dash looks out over a wide windshield and features sharp, easy-to-read instruments. The center stack is comprised of a new dual screen system. The upper screen is the information screen, shows you “need to know” information, whilst the lower 8″ touchscreen features haptic feedback which lets you know when you have executed commands. The lower screen is a hub system that manages media, navigation, phone and vehicle setting chores very well once you maser the short learning curve. The power-adjustable (heated and cooled) leather seats are very comfortable and the drivers hand fall naturally to the large power-adjustable, heated steering wheel which has buttons for media, phone, hands free, the driver information screen, cruise control and the trip meters. The rear cabin has a huge three seater rear seats with a full set of three seatbelts and three headrests. The longer cabin means legroom and headroom is excellent in the rear quar-ters and the seat actually fit three seats tall adults in comfort. Rear passengers are also well catered for with their own adjustable air vents, heating switches and a folding center seatback that does double duty as an armrest with two cupholders , two seatback map pockets, manual window shades on both sides and a powered rear window sunshade also add to convenience and privacy out back. Note the battery pack in the trunk behind the back seat reduces cargo volume to 328 litres in the Hybrid On the road Acura’s expertise with efficient, smooth V6 engines is once again apparent as the like all Acura engines, it is strong and smooth and willingly revs showing off its smooth even torque curves. The normal RLX has plenty of acceleration and power at its disposal and is well matched to the six- speed transmissions ratios. The new 7 speed gear-box delivers fast, glitch free shifts. The Hybrid models rear motors can be controlled independently to provide, in effect, an element of rear-wheel steering. The performance and fuel economy in this hybrid are pretty impressive from such a large sedan. In cruise mode the Hybrid can travel on battery power at up to 80 km/h for a few kilometres at a time depending on the battery state of charge, and other parameters. Fuel economy for the Hybrid is rated at (litres/100 km): 8.0 city, 7.5 highway As stated before, technology and engineering abound in the RLX. Acura’s rear-wheel steering P-AWS (precision all-wheel-steer) adjust the individual toe angle of the rear wheels depending on the driving situation and tightens up steering and braking. During quick on highway manoeuvres both the front and rear wheels turn together so making for more stable and smoother turning. P-AWS also acts as an aid in cornering or in tight parking situ-ations by making the rear wheels steer opposite to the front, boosting maneuverability. THE AHA (agile handling assist) also assist in smoother turning by applying light computer –controlled torque-vector braking to the inside rear wheel. The result of all this technology is the fast, smooth, stable cornering at high speed and a high level of driver confidence. Despite the RLX’s size and weight the P-AWS system imbues it with a very impressive small turning circle, and delightfully quick steering responses. The RLX has a somewhat sporty ride for a car of this class and some may find it harsher than expected. However it’s prefer-able to an over soft spring ride and I like the tight turning abilities and agility - the double wishbone front/multi-link rear suspension is well sorted and tuned. To sum up, the new RLX Sport hybrid is a very impressive, high quality, technology laden luxury sedan and is well worth the money. The RLX is a fast, comfortable and offers a huge number of features that make it a worthy competitor in this segment. Highly recommend-ed Auto review by Veeno Dewan

An optional subwoofer powered upgraded audio system is offered along with a three-zone climate control, and optional rear seat entertainment Seats are large and comfortable and the rear second row is roomy. The third row seats are really for kids and smaller, more agile adults. Stow the third row away and you have 1,122 litres of cargo space behind the second row of seats. With the third row of seats up, trunk space decreases to 303 Litres. With the second and third row stowed away, a massive 1,915 L of cargo space is usable.The family appeal is also helped by such clever features as the optional built-in booster seats in the second row for children that can be stowed away when not in use, and the easy way all the seat are so easy to flip up or down. On the road, the Journey Crossroad AWD is powered by a 3.6L V6 with 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque which is better than the as standard four cylinder mill which would be a tad underpowered with a full load I think. The V6 does have a penalty in fuel economy, but the extra performance and power is worth it. Handling is good with the suspension providing good comfort. Fuel To sum up, there not many downsides- the Dodge Journey offers a Family-friendly crossover that’s fantastic value. You can start at a competitively priced $19,995 for a base Journey and progress right up to a super –luxury premium equipped model at over $41,000 with something

for everyone in between. Need the space of a Minivan, but not the bulk? Look

no further. Well recommended.

Interior wise, the Kia offers a roomy, high quality cabin – way better than you would expect at this price. The materials and plastics are good quality- in fact very good quality. The soft-touch dashboard and doors fascias are thick and generously pad-ded. The seats and steering wheel feature decent quality leather and as mentioned before, the front and rear seats are heated and on SX model the driver’s seat is cooled and the steering wheel heated. The instrument panel features upscale style electroluminescent gauges and all the controls and knobs operate with nice high quality action.On the road, the Forte with the more powerful engine is a better choice – and youkan order the six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The 2.0 liter engine has plenty of punch in most situations, but its smallish displacement does not endow the Kia with sport car like acceleration. Still it is a smooth unit with enough power for everyday driving. Kia

have stiffened the Forte’s body structure, and re-tuned the suspension system resulting in a more compliant, ride for passengers. In terms of handling, Kia’s Flex Steer electric power steering system is allows drivers to se-lect from three setting – Comfort, Normal and Sport. Comfort loosens up the steering some-what whilst Sport tightens up the parameter for stiffer and responsive cornering. Road noise is muted and the Forte feels agile and stable. Natural Resources Canada fuel economy figures are L/100 km 8.5 city, 5.5 highway, which is very good in this sector.Safety is also high on the Kia Forte and there are a total of six airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brak-

ing system (ABS) with Brake Assist Control (BAS), electronic stability control (ESC), Hill Assist Con-trol (HAC) and standard Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) that automatically operates when it senses understeer or oversteer.

There is not a whole lot complain about. With so many Kia Optima’s, Sportage’s, Sorento’s and the like on the road now – all of them excellent value

for money good looking vehicles; it is easy to see the Kia Forte do very well. The Kia SX for the price is just an incredible

bargain with its luxury and technology features. You would have to pay at least another ten thousand

dollars to get the same equipment in higher priced cars- so it’s a no brainer here. The Forte is highly recommended.This vehicle is available at
